i dont even know where to start with this rant. basically the reason i am doing this is have alot of stuff balled up inside and i have no one to talk to about anything so its all festering and making me more and more depressed. everything in my life is definatly not turning out the way i planned. my job sucks more and more, i tried to get a new one but since i made a stupid life choise and never finished highschool its making it really hard to find work besides fastfood. my job sucks they cut me down to 31 hours a week (and im not allowed to work at any other fastfood restraunt company rules) so a second job is out of the question pretty much, the job sucks completly they took away are vacations and started random uas. im always sick im still having stomich problems even though im still living gluten-free( even though i was told to go back onto bread over 3 months ago, i can not get the courage to risk getting myself sick to challange it)( but according to my gastro there was absolutly no reason for my other doctor to have even suggested celiac disease but i got myself so brainwashed i cant seem to trust any medical advice so im still eating the way i was) im in general sick right now with a nasty nasty cold possibly flue or strep. and my girlfriend for the past 3 and 1/2 years broke up with me last week. im so emotonaly torn around right now/physicaly im having problems eating/sleeping, all i do is wallow in my depression, i tried to talk to my roommate about things but his mind is that of a 3 year old so conversations dont really get anyware. ok enough ranting for now, if you botherd to read this sorry you did

I know men don't like hugs, but ((hugs))

I'm so sorry you are having lots of problems right now! Perhaps you should start looking for another job? I don't know if it would be any better, but have you thought of places like Target, Wal-mart, etc.? I know they hire high-school age, so I know you don't need a diploma to work there. The conditions might be better.

Also, what about waiting tables or bartending? Again, no diploma needed, but you could probably make much more money there.

And have you thought about trying to get your GED? Most places, that's just as good as a high school diploma.

It definitely seems that when it rains, it pours, doesn't it?

I'll be thinking of you.

Im sorry you're having a hard time. So am I. I've been on the diet for almost three months and I still am having constant stomach problems. I just quit my waitressing job because It was too draining and because I was constantly around gluten. It gets really hard sometimes and its so easy to jsut want to give up. But we've got to believe that It will get better. I'll be praying for you!

been glutenfree for almost a year now and still no improvments so im starting to belive my doc. as for the ged i wish i could get it but unfortunatlly i need to come up with money to take some class's to get my ready for the acuall ged since i dont remember any of that highschool stuff. as for places that hire highschoolers like target and what not they make u bring in documented proof that your working toward your diploma :(

I had no idea Target and the like did that!

Have you checked into any state programs that offer free classes for preparing for GEDs? I don't know where you live, but I remember hearing about some here.

Lister Rising Star

nope had no clue they had programs for free ged prep i will look into that

more to add onto rant: im so sick of my fricking stomich, all it does is pop and hurt. the closet thing the gastro doc can think it is is chrons but he already ruled it out. basicly i have way way to much gas. like every 3-10 min i pass some, and it stinks so fowl i can literaly clear a room. but beforei finally pass the gas i can feel it start from right next to my heart and slowly move thru my entire bowl. the gas is so bad it riddles my bms with holes and they all float at the top. i know im gross but its the truth and im so sick of it

Lister...what about working at a grocery store?? They're usually union and have good benefits......I dont think you would need to have proof of working toward a diploma either??

I work at a grocery store....we always need baggers and as long as you could pass the drug test they'd hire you and as long as you show up to work and get the job done...they'd keep you.

Really cuz I've worked for Safeway for 17 years and I dont think we only hire graduates.

In fact 3/4 of the baggers we have right now are challenged in some way...some even require on-site job coaches. I think they pretty much give anyone the opportunity to work there. They just want people who are friendly and willing to do the job.

all i know is i have turned in over 20 applications around town in the past 2 weeks and have not gotten a call back on any of them its really discuraging

I know in michigan they did change things here including something about even taking back licenses in efforts to keep kids in school. I would call your local community college. Our local one has a student loan type thing that you dont make payments till six months after you graduate as long as you have never defaulted on a student loan before. If you wanted to beyond that you could continue college to better your job status and it would defer your loan till you graduated from college as long as you obtain part time status. You can even get some living expenses covered. Quite a few of my friends needed student loans to get through.

Rather than working on another lower paying job if your able to I would highly recommend uping your education.

Im sorry your having stomach issues, mine was gluten but intolerances didn't help. I hope they are able to figure out how to help you soon.

Lister Rising Star

i highly dought that they will ever figure out whats wrong with my stomich, i meen its been almost a yerar with only things getting ruled out but no real answeres

Lister, since you don't have connections with your parents and are clearly on your own, you might be able to qualify for grants rather than student loans. You won't have to pay back the money that way. I'd go to a community college and discuss it with them. They probably have a GED class and might help you with the hopes that you'll take more classes with them.

I know you've struggled with your health for a long time. I don't have any further suggestions there, I can't imagine what it could be. Have they looked for bacterial infections?

I'm sorry you've lost your girlfriend. Take this break to pull yourself together, get your GED, get a better job ... then I'm sure you'll have a woman in your life again and things will be so much better than they are today. You just need to find the stregth to work for what you want ... and you'll need to work harder than a lot of people to overcome some of your past choices, but I KNOW you can do it. You are much smarter than you think you are.

thanks to whoever said something about possible free ged prep and such, i did a search and found out that my local community college offers ged prep class's for adults for $25 a term!! and they offer it at night time so it works around my work shedual. it looks like im finally taking atleast 1 step in the right direction. other positive steps i have made recently- cut down to 12 cigs a day (was up to a pack) cut down to 1 bowl a day (was around 2 grams). so i meen i guess i am turning around my life some, i just still feel like im in a rutt. oh and i cut down on my potato chip intake- 1/3 of a bag a day instead of 2 bags a day(last week) and my stomich seems to be much happier with me (though i am hungry more offten)

I've been brainstorming flexible job opportunities for you - that would allow you to work during the day and take advantage of that GED prep course (what a deal!) in the evening.

In my small town our newspaper delivery people are primarily adults. I think they get reimbursed for mileage, etc. and get some decent $$.

Construction, landscaping, restaurant kitchens are always looking for people around here.

Of course, if you're not feeling well, that would be exhausting work. It's exhausting when you're feeling well!

What about your local public schools? Are they looking for help in the kitchen? Custodial staff? They have great hours (daytime!) and it's hard to find consistent/long-term employees.

I'm trying to think of things primarily open during the day - public library? art supply stores? hardware stores? Sometimes small Mom and Pop businesses do not have as rigid hiring practices as the large corporate conglomorates..........

What about driving related jobs --- some nursing homes hire drivers to transport their residents. Some car dealerships hire drivers to transport vehicles to other dealerships when customers request them.

One of my family members drives for a local dealership and LOVES it b/c he's always headed different places, each day is different from the last.

I'll keep thinking.

unfortuantly another one of my goals is to eventually get a license. i have a fear of cars and am still slowly getting over it, i have a permit but everytime i get on the road i get panic attacks

From what and how you have stated your physical issues, it sounds like you are still getting gluten somehow: bad gas; loose, floating BM's, fatigue, bad mood/depression.

If you are working in fast food you are probably getting glutened every day, whether or not you eat the stuff you prepare. Cutting down on fats and smoking are good moves, and can only help your gut.

I hope you can put together a plan that moves you into something you like, makes you happy, you can physically do, and will get you away from food prep. Lots of great advice for you on this thread - good luck and keep coming back!

It sounds like you will be taking the GED class through the local college, but you might also check if the library has any prep-books. I love the library - free books!

Get tested for vitamin deficiencies.  Though neuropathy can be a symptom of celiac, it can also be caused by deficiencies due to poor digestion caused by celiac and could be easier to treat.

Thank you so much for your response  Yes it seems as though things get very painful as time goes on.  I'm not eating gluten as far as I know.  However, I'm not sure of cross contamination.  My system seems to weaken to hidden spices and other possibilities. ???  if cross contamination is possible...I am in a super sensitive mode of celiac disease.. Neuropathy from head to toes

We feel your pain. It took me 20+ years of regularly going to doctors desperate for answers only to be told there was nothing wrong with me … when I was 20 pounds underweight, suffering from severe nutritional deficiencies, and in a great deal of pain. I had to figure it out for myself. If you're in the U.S., not having an official diagnosis does mean you can't claim a tax deduction for the extra expense of gluten-free foods. But it can also be a good thing. Pre-existing conditions might be a reason why a health insurance company might reject your application or charge you more money. No official diagnosis means you don't have a pre-existing condition. I really hope you don't live in the U.S. and don't have these challenges. Do you need an official diagnosis for a specific reason? Else, I wouldn't worry about it. As long as you're diligent in remaining gluten free, your body should be healing as much as possible so there isn't much else you could do anyway. And there are plenty of us out here who never got that official diagnosis because we couldn't eat enough gluten to get tested. Now that the IL-2 test is available, I suppose I could take it, but I don't feel the need. Someone else not believing me really isn't my problem as long as I can stay in control of my own food.

If you're just starting out in being gluten free, I would expect it to take months before you learned enough about hidden sources of gluten before you stopped making major mistakes. Ice cream? Not safe unless they say it is gluten free. Spaghetti sauce? Not safe unless is says gluten-free. Natural ingredients? Who knows what's in there. You pretty much need to cook with whole ingredients yourself to avoid it completely. Most gluten-free products should be safe, but while you're in the hypersensitive phase right after going gluten free, you may notice that when something like a microwave meal seems to not be gluten-free … then you find out that it is produced in a shared facility where it can become contaminated. My reactions were much-more severe after going gluten free. The analogy that I use is that you had a whole army of soldiers waiting for some gluten to attack, and now that you took away their target, when the stragglers from the gluten army accidentally wander onto the battlefield, you still have your entire army going out and attacking them. Expect it to take two years before all of the training facilities that were producing your soldiers have fallen into disrepair and are no longer producing soldiers. But that is two years after you stop accidentally glutening yourself. Every time you do eat gluten, another training facility can be built and more soldiers will be waiting to attack. Good luck figuring things out.
