Our First House!

We just bought our first house (townhouse)...!!!!!!.fortunately, we made settlement in late February but do not have to move in until late March.

We have already started painting and will soon tear up all of the carpets to replace w/ new. It's SO nice to be able to do all of this work without our furniture in the house!

Our problem is lighting. We need a chandelier (sp?) for our dining room. We found one that we really like (Brushed Bronze, Murray Feiss, w/ shades) - but it is discontinued. We're trying to find something "timeless" - not too modern, but not too fancy.

Anyone have suggestions? This whole decorating a house thing is very new to me!

We want to stick with the darker colors (brushed bronze, dark wood) and light shades (white, cream).....Anyone know a manufacturer that we should be checking out?

Also looking for table/floor lamps that will coordinate (do not have to be matchy-matchy) for our living room, which is really part of the same space.

Thanks so much! It's such an exciting time - but I don't really have extra time for window shopping.

We still rent so I can't answer your question but I just wanted to say, Congrats on the new house, it must be so nice to be able to have colors on the wall and decorate!!!! I can't wait till we finally find a house we like.

Congrats!! That is awesome. We bought our 1st house (also a townhouse about a year and a half ago and I love it).

Did you look online at all for the discontinued one you like? You'd be suprised. Even though it's discontinued there is a good chance you can still find it.

I don't know how much you are looking to spend, but if you still can't find it online, Home Depot, Lowe's and Expo (Home Depot's more upscale / decorating store) all have stuff that isn't that pricey, but good quality and looks nice.

Congratulations!

I would suggest buying things you like instead of what's "in style". If you fill your home with things you like, it will suit you and your husband and will never go out of style.

We just bought a dining room chandelier from a furniture store. Lowes is good, too. Lighting stores have the best quality and selection, but their products are usually the most pricey.

Another word of advice, buy what goes with the quality of the home. If you buy stuff that's above the quality of the other townhouses, then you won't necessarily get your money out of it when you sell. Of course, you can always take a chandelier with you. An example, if all the other townhouses have Formica counters, you probably won't get your money back from putting in granite.

Congrats with getting your first place!

The lighting really depends on the ceiling height- we have really, really high ceilings here, and we found that uplighters actually made the light a lot kinder than anything else.

      Oats naturally contain a protein called avenin, which is similar to the gluten proteins found in wheat, barley, and rye. While avenin is generally considered safe for most people with celiac disease, some individuals, around 5-10% of celiacs, may also have sensitivity to avenin, leading to symptoms similar to gluten exposure. You may fall into this category, and eliminating them is the best way to figure this out. Some people substitute gluten-free quinoa flakes for oats if they want a hot cereal substitute.       Hi, @Ginger38, I've had shingles in the past.  I understand how miserable you're feeling.   Not only do i have the chickenpox virus lurking about, I also have the cold sore virus that occasionally flares with a huge cold sore on my lip when stressed or exposed to gluten.  The virus lives dormant in the nerves on the left side of my face.  It causes Bell's Palsy (resulting in drooling).  The cold sore virus is also in my eye.  My eye swells up and my vision is diminished permanently whenever I have a flare, so it's of the utmost importance to keep flares away and treat them immediately if they do happen so I don't lose any more vision.   I take the amino acid supplement L-Lysine.  Lysine messes with the replication of viruses, which helps the body fight them off.   I haven't had an outbreak for several years until this year when exceptionally stressed and contaminated, it flared up again. Lysine has been shown to be beneficial in suppression of viruses like the cold sore virus (a herpetic virus), the chickenpox virus (also a herpetic virus), as well as the HIV virus, and even the Covid virus.   I also take additional Thiamine in the form TTFD (tetrahydrofurfuryl disulfide) because Thiamine has antiviral properties as well.   For pain, a combination of Thiamine (like TTFD or Benfotiamine or Thiamine Hydrochloride), with B12 Cobalamine, and Pyridoxine B6 have been shown to have analgesic properties which relieve pain and neuropathy.    The combination of Thiamine B1, Pyridoxine B6 and Cobalamine B12 really does work to relieve pain.  I take it for pain from crushed vertebrae in my back.  This combination also works on other pain and neuropathy.   I usually buy a supplement that combines all three and also Riboflavin B2 called EXPLUS online.  However, it's made in Japan and the price with the tariffs added makes it really expensive now.  But the combination of Thiamine B1, Pyridoxine B6 and B12 Cobalamine (and Riboflavin B2) still work even if taken separately.   I can't take Tylenol or ibuprofen because of stomach upsets.  But I can take the vitamin combination without side effects.  However, you can take the three vitamins at the same time as other pain relievers for added benefit.  The vitamins help other pain relievers work better. I hope you will try it.  Hopeful you'll feel better quickly.
