Hello

I have a gastroscopy and endoscopy scheduled for next week. I have had a gastroscopy before without sedation and that was fine. My friend who has had an endoscopy advised sedation. I don't know which I find the most scary - to be sedated or to have the procedures while fully awake. You experiences, good and bad, would be appreciated.

i'm not sure what you are asking---you said you have already had a scope done without anesthesia and it was fine-----an endoscopy and a gastroscopy are the same thing. is there a reason that you are afraid of doing it without anesthesia again? i had a scope done in december and was put completely out for it----i can't imagine having it done while awake!!!

My fear is that I managed the gastroscopy without sedation but that was quick - 5-10mins maybe. The colonoscopy info stuff says it can take 30mins. Not sure if I can remain calm while people prod me for that long.

anyone got experience of colonoscopy without sedation ?

I had a colonoscopy and an endoscopy done. I was totally out for the endoscopy - I didn't wake up until it was over. For the colonoscopy, however, I was only mildly sedated. I was aware of the whole thing but I didn't feel anything and that was fine. I don't remember how long it took but it didn't seem that long.

When I had mine done (twice) I was completely out for it. I would do it that way again. I would not want that memory if nothing else. :) Just make sure you have some one you completely trust along to ask questions and take notes.

i had a colonoscopy done without sedation and it was ok---but, i think that it might depend on how "deep" they need to go as to whether or not you want to be put out.

I've never had a colonoscopy, but I have had 2 endoscopies done without sedation, and it was really nice to not worry about side effects or risks of anesthesia. It was also nice to get up, go home, and not waste the rest of the day recovering. I do think that 30 minutes would have been extremely tough, though--I have a horrendous gag reflex. I told the doctor I didn't mind gagging for 5 minutes if she didn't, and she was fine about it. They did spray my throat with a local anesthetic spray VERY THOROUGHLY, though!

i had both in feb and they put me out. the only bad part was the nurses released me way too early, on the ride home i kept passing out and turned pale white , kinda scared my wife, but all was well once we got home. my vote is go for the sedation

      So I've been dealing with chasing the name celiac because of my body actively dealing with health issues related to celiac though not eating. Diagnosed in 1994 before foods eliminated from diet. After 25 years with former pcp I googled celiac specialist and she wasn't because of what ive been through. I wanted my results to be sent to my pcp but nothing was sent.I have email copies.I did one zoom call with np with team member from celiac specialist in Nov 2025 and she asked me why I wanted to know why I wanted the celiac diagnosis so bad, I sad I don't, its my life and I need revalidaion because its affecting me.KB stated well it shows you are.I asked then why am I going through all this.I was labeled unruly. Its been a celiac circus and medical has caused anxiety and depression no fault to my own other than being born with bad genetics. How is it legal for medical professionals to gaslight patients that are with an ailment coming for help to be downplayed? KB put in my records that she personally spent 120min with me and I think the zoom call was discussing celiac 80 min ONE ZOOM call.SHE is responsible for not explaining to my pcp about celiac disease am I right?

Its alarming these places are popping up in airports as well.I just saw on the news that the airport ( can't remember which  one)was going to have a fabulous smelling bakery. Not for sensitive celiacs, this can alter their health during their travel which isn't safe. More awareness really NEEDS to be promoted, so much more than just a food consumption!FYI I did write to Stanislaus to let them know my thoughts on the medical field not knowing much about celiac and how it affects one.I also did message my gi the 3 specialist names that was given on previous post on questions on celiac. I pray its not on deaf door.

      I used to be able to get the Rivera yougut i havent been able to get it lately. I like getting it did say it did say gluten free. I just looking for a good yogurt that gluten free that i can add some fruit and nuts to any suggestion would be helpful  thanks
