Ok, So I read on here that Clinique has a book that lists what has what... so I went to the store. They had a book, but didn't say that these were gluten free...

So read labels, and more labels, and then tried some stuff...

I got a cleanser and a foundation.

I got

"Comforting Cream Cleanser"

and

"Super Balanced Make-up"

I also go free samples of:

Extra Mild Face Soap

Dramatically Different moisturizing lotion

Clarifying lotion

Anyone use these products? I read the ingredients over and over, I see nothing, but I'm worried still!

I know the last 3 things are gluten-free (I use them and confirmed with Clinique), but not sure about the first 2. I think the "list" they have at their counter will say the ingredients, but not necessarily in plain English (so you can't really tell what is wheat, etc.). You can email Clinique with the specific items and they will respond fairly quickly to say if it is gluten-free or not.

I went online to chat with a "consultant" and she gave me a number to call (there are no numbers on any bottle!).

I got a number but have to call at work tomorrow *grrr*

I jsut used the 3 step, it worked nice.

I think the place is called Global Customer Care or something like that, and I know the hours were something like the standard banking hours east coast. I didn't write all the details down, just the number. But the number is..... 1-866-707-2100

I hate when the companies don't post numbers... Grr.

Yay!

Ok I just got off the phone with Clinique,

They don't have the Comforting Cream Cleanser, or the Clarifiying Lotion (number 1) tested, but she will e-mail the Chemists and e-mail me with the information.

The Super Balanced Makeup has Soy.

The Dramatically Different Mosturizer has Corn.

They also test for the presence of Rice.

But that number was great, didn't even sit on hold long.

I e-mailed them about some more Items: This was there reponse

Thank you for posting about Clinique. I have had great luck with many of their products. A few have caused me problems and I didn't know why. One of them is the All About Eyes I'm sure.

mftnchn Explorer

I'm working through the list of Clinique products I have, and have been trying to answers from the company. I'll post more when I know. I've written two emails and no answers yet.

Currently I am using facial soap mild, clarifying 1, foundation, make-up remover, eye make-up remover, tint for eyes and blusher that are gluten free as best as I can determine.

The long lash mascara is not, and the lipsticks I have are not. 7 day scrub has gluten. Repairwear and all about eyes as mentioned here. I think there may be one mascara that is okay and several lipsticks except that I am also trying to avoid bismuth. Looks like maybe one lipstick will be okay, still trying to figure it out.

I found a recipe about making a "scrub" with soap and soda. Tried it with ivory soap and it works pretty well. When it is gone I'll try with the clinique facial soap.

All about Eyes is a double whammy wheat bran and barley!

I have found clinique to be really good about getting back to me, only problem is quite a few they still need to contact the chemist.... so that takes time. If you want to know right away, call the number posted above. Of course.. that's only if they arn't still checking with the chemist.

The I believe the Mild liquid Facial soap has barley in it. I think it's right on the list of ingredients. The bar is fine, and the best bar soap I have ever used on my face. I think I had a reaction to perfectly real foundation. It was kinda old, and it might have not even been that, so I just threw it out and got the Superbalanced foundation. That stuff is great, it absorbs sweat! I wore it on a 90 degree day, and it didn't run down my face! I got the rinse off foaming cleanser, I love it! Oh I VERY highly reccomend the Moisture Surge Thirsty Skin Relief if you have dry skin. It is totally not greasy, just soaks right in.

They haven't confirmed for me about clarifiyng lotion #1, but i am using it 2 times a day and no problems.

Hi, I find it interesting that your hubby was misdiagnosed with IBS and Colitis. I was as well and one very rude doctor then went on to say if I had bowel problems it was because i was silly enough to live in India, AS IF IT IS HIS BUSINESS WHERE I CHOOSE TO LIVE! and how dare he discriminate against other countries anyway. I had to go to Bangkok, Thailand to get a proper diagnosis. They were very sweet, helpful and understanding as well. I'm sorry about your husband, I hope he can battle through...

There are lots of Gluten free products, the trick is finding them! I use clinique because I have sensitive skin, very dry skin and hate fragrance (all clinique is fragrance free). They are more than just cosmestics, they are created by dermatologists. I also like how I can go to the counter and say, I need this... help! I just feel very overwhelmed when looking in a drug store.

You need to be careful of all personal products. If you have just celiac, if you ingest some, it will make you sick, if you have Dermatitis Hepaformis (sp?) it will cause a rash. I found out about a month in from being gluten-free that the shampoo I was using because my hair was thinning and falling out, had wheat in it... making my hair thin and fall out! (that is also attributed to malnutrion from celiac).

Anyway, don't feel like you have to use Clinique, most brands have gluten free options, and what brand you like best is up to you.

Thanks

I was wondering about the Dramatically Different Moisturizing lotion

mftnchn Explorer

I have seen several references on this forum that dramatically different moisturizing lotion is gluten-free. I have been using it without obvious problems so far. So that matches this information Clinique just sent me.

SunnyDyRain Enthusiast

Thanks for finding out about the comforting cream cleanser! I have it, but been afraid to use it. Waiting on Clinuque for a few things!

Should I be worried about the alcoho!l?

mftnchn Explorer

I don't know. Maybe ask in a new thread as people who don't use Clinique might not view the thread here. Somebody probably knows. I think it is pretty likely the grain is wheat, corn or barley.

octenylsuccinate)

Thanks to everyone that did the research on these products. I have now pinpointed that the "all about eyes" cream is what has been causing this rash on my face. Ive been using it for years, but the rash just showed up about a month ago, so I didn't connect the two until I went to my dermatologist and she said it looked like an allergic reaction to something. Then I started to research.

Thank you again!!! Does anyone have any suggestions on a replacement eye cream? I know Arbon has good stuff, and it's all gluten-free, but it's really expensive.

I have used Cinique products since I was 16 (so over 30 years!) I was diagnosed with a wheat allergy/gluten intollerance back in 2008 and have been gluten-free since that time. I have had no issues with any of the clinique products. At this time I use the Perfectly Real Makeup. I have tried many of their samples as I always purchase my clinque during bonus times. I hope this helps.

@Colleen H   I am just curious,  when you were tested for coeliac disease, did the doctors find out if you had any deficiencies? Sometimes muscle pain can be caused by certain deficiencies, for example, magnesium, vitamin D, calcium, and potassium.   Might be worth looking into having some more tests.  Pins and needles can be neuropathy, again caused by deficiencies, such as iron and B12,  which can be reversed if these deficiencies are addressed. In the UK where I live we are usually only tested for iron, B12 and vitamin D deficiencies at diagnosis.   I was very iron anemic and supplementation made a big difference.  B12 was low normal, but in other countries the UK's low normal would be considered a deficiency.  My vitamin D was low normal, and I've been supplementing ever since (when I remember to take it!) My pins and needles definitely started to improve when my known deficiencies were addressed.  My nutritionist also gave me a broad spectrum supplement which really helped, because I suspect I wasn't just deficient in what I mention above but in many other vitamins and minerals.  But a word of warning, don't take iron unless blood tests reveal you actually need it, and if you are taking it your levels must be regularly monitored because too much can make you ill.  (And if you are currently taking iron, that might actually be making your stomach sore - it did mine, so my GP changed my iron supplementation to a gentler form, ferrous gluconate). Lastly, have you been trying to take anything to lessen the pain in your gut?  I get a sore stomach periodically, usually when I've had too much rich food, or when I have had to take an aspirin or certain antibiotics, or after glutening.  When this happens, I take for just a few days a small daily dose of OTC omeprazole.  I also follow a reflux or gastritis diet. There are lots online but the common denominators to these diets is you need to cut out caffeine, alcohol, rich, spicy, acidic food etc and eat small regularly spaced meals.   When I get a sore stomach, I also find it helpful to drink lots of water.  I also find hot water with a few slices of ginger very soothing to sip, or camomile tea.  A wedge pillow at night is good for reflux. Also,  best not to eat a meal 2-3 hours before going to bed. If the stomach pain is getting worse, though, it would be wise to see the doctor again. I hope some of this helps. Cristiana

I was diagnosed with coeliac disease a couple of years ago [ish]. I love my food and a variety of food, so it's been hard, as it is with everyone. I try and ensure everything I eat doesn't contain gluten, but occasionally I think something must have got through that has gluten in. Mainly I know because I have to dash to the loo, but recently I have noticed that I feel nauseous after possibly being glutened. I think the thing that I have got better at is knowing what to do when I feel wiped out after a gluten 'episode'. I drink loads of water, and have just started drinking peppermint tea. I also have rehydration powders to drink. I don't feel like eating much, but eventually feel like I need to eat. Gluten free flapjacks, or gluten free cereal, or a small gluten free kids meal are my go to. I am retired, so luckily I can rest, sometimes even going to bed when nothing else works. So I feel that I am getting better at knowing how to try and get back on track. I am also trying to stick to a simpler menu and eat mostly at home so that I can be more confident about what I am eating. THANKS TO THOSE WHO REPLIED ABOUT THE NAUSEA .

Thanks. Since the back and forth and promises of review and general stalling went on for more than six months, the credit company will no longer investigate. They have a cutoff of maybe six months.
    • Scott Adams
Is this the same restaurant? https://www.facebook.com/TheHappyTartFallsChurch/ Is it too late to take this up with your credit card company? Normally you have a few months to do a chargeback with them. It seems very odd that they are taking this approach with someone who is likely to be a regular customer--not a good business-minded way of handling things!
    • Scott Adams
Many people with celiac disease, especially those who are in the 0-2 year range of their recovery, have additional food intolerance issues which could be temporary. To figure this out you may need to keep a food diary and do an elimination diet over a few months. Some common food intolerance issues are dairy/casein, eggs, corn, oats, and soy. The good news is that after your gut heals (for most people who are 100% gluten-free this will take several months to two years) you may be able to slowly add some these items back into your diet after the damaged villi heal. This article may be helpful: The most common nutrient deficiencies associated with celiac disease that may lead to testing for the condition include iron, vitamin D, folate (vitamin B9), vitamin B12, calcium, zinc, and magnesium.  Unfortunately many doctors, including my own doctor at the time, don't do extensive follow up testing for a broad range of nutrient deficiencies, nor recommend that those just diagnosed with celiac disease take a broad spectrum vitamin/mineral supplement, which would greatly benefit most, if not all, newly diagnosed celiacs. Because of this it took me decades to overcome a few long-standing issues I had that were associated with gluten ataxia, for example numbness and tingling in my feet, and muscle knots--especially in my shoulders an neck. Only long term extensive supplementation has helped me to resolve these issues.
