My doctor says I should be taking fish oil. The problem is, I can't find any without soy. Do any of you take it and have you found any soy free?

Is it the vitamin E source that you're worried about? The Open Original Shared Link fish oil doesn't list any soy. Same thing with Carlson Labs. But I don't think you're going to find fish oil w/o vitamin E... (It's the preservative they tend to use...)

I use Carlson Cod Liver Oil--it dosen't contain soy.

Thank you Tarnalberry--It's not the Vitamin E at all. I can't have soy and I have not found a fish oil capsule that doesn't have soy too. I have found gluten free ones, yet they contain soy.

Is cod liver oil the same thing? Do you take it in place of the Omega 3's? My doctor's office is absolutely useless with these questions. Thanks!

New question Jerseyangel. I was just reading in Carlson's site and Dr. Mercola even says their cod liver oil is the best. Do you take the capsules and how much do you take?

tarnalberry Community Regular

The Carlson's one is the same that I've got - I have the liquid, because I'm supposed to take 6-8g per day!!! (inflammation)

They, and Spectrum, don't list their oils as soy free, because of the vit E, I believe.

The cod liver oil is fine for omega-3's. If you're looking for anti-inflammatory purposes, there's supposed to be a 2:1 EPA:DHA ratio, but I've found it hard to get *quite* that far over.

(BTW, I broke one of the big bottles (glass) in a store... the stuff makes your skin very soft when it's all over you. :P Too bad it's so pricey and makes you smell like lemon flavored fish. :D)

Country Life (based in Long Island!) has fish and I believe Omega 3 oils as well that do not contain soy (or preservatives, etc...).

My hubby's cardio doc recommended that he take a brand called SuperEPA 2000 by Advanced Nutritional Technology Inc. (their website: Open Original Shared Link. When my doc suggested I take fish oil, I started taking the same stuff. We buy it through a website called LivingHeart.com (Open Original Shared Link).

It lists ingredients as Fish Oil, Vitamin E, Gelatin and Purified Water. It says it has no preservatives, sugar, starch or colors added and it's cholesterol free. It doesn't list soy but it doesn't say it's soy free either. It doesn't say it's gluten-free either but my hubby called them for me. It's pricey enough that if I were soy reactive, I'd want to know it is soy free before I bought any. I'll send an email to my Living Heart contact and ask her.

BTW -- my hubby took cod liver oil for years until his doc told him it was a probable cause for him having osteopenia before age 45. Apparently, too much vitamin A is bad for your bones.

Also BTW -- my doc warned me to make sure I got lab grade fish oil because of possible mercury contamination.

I received the email back today. There is no soy in this product. I see the link didn't come through but we get it from www.livingheart.com under the "Living Heart Store" link.

I eat sardines for breakfast. Definitely not everyone's idea of a great way to start the day, but no soy. :P

So I've been dealing with chasing the name celiac because of my body actively dealing with health issues related to celiac though not eating. Diagnosed in 1994 before foods eliminated from diet. After 25 years with former pcp I googled celiac specialist and she wasn't because of what ive been through. I wanted my results to be sent to my pcp but nothing was sent.I have email copies.I did one zoom call with np with team member from celiac specialist in Nov 2025 and she asked me why I wanted to know why I wanted the celiac diagnosis so bad, I sad I don't, its my life and I need revalidaion because its affecting me.KB stated well it shows you are.I asked then why am I going through all this.I was labeled unruly. Its been a celiac circus and medical has caused anxiety and depression no fault to my own other than being born with bad genetics. How is it legal for medical professionals to gaslight patients that are with an ailment coming for help to be downplayed? KB put in my records that she personally spent 120min with me and I think the zoom call was discussing celiac 80 min ONE ZOOM call.SHE is responsible for not explaining to my pcp about celiac disease am I right?

I've noticed with my age and menopause my smell for bread gives me severe migraines and I know this. Its alarming that there are all these fabulous bakeries, sandwich places pizza places popping up in confined areas.Just the other day I suffered a migraine after I got done with my mri when a guy with a brown paper bag walk in front of me and I smelled that fresh dough bread with tuna, I got a migraine when we got home.I hate im that sensitive. Its alarming these places are popping up in airports as well.I just saw on the news that the airport ( can't remember which  one)was going to have a fabulous smelling bakery. Not for sensitive celiacs, this can alter their health during their travel which isn't safe. More awareness really NEEDS to be promoted, so much more than just a food consumption!FYI I did write to Stanislaus to let them know my thoughts on the medical field not knowing much about celiac and how it affects one.I also did message my gi the 3 specialist names that was given on previous post on questions on celiac. I pray its not on deaf door.
