I'm fairly new to this board...I usually just check it as a guest on the occasion but I just had to ask someone. I've been gluten-free for about 5 years and did the research on the Baked Lays (i'm on a diet :() to see what flavors I could have....however, I am SO sick...does anyone get sick from the olestra...I was supposed to have a date tonight and had to cancel because I can't leave the bathroom (TMI i know!) I just didn't know if it was a gluten thing or just a normal person reaction...I also had Oscar Meyer Roast Beer, which the ingrediants seemed fine...I know Oscar Meyer doesn't hide ingrediants so I thought that was safe.

Sheesh!

Monkey,

Except for the Lay's Stackers, Lay's are not made on dedicated lines, so there is a risk of cross contamination. And as for olestra, considering the shaky digestive systems we have I wouldn't trust it.

Olestra is known to cause health problems, two of them diarrhea and stomach cramps. Nobody should eat anything with olestra as an ingredient. It is poison!

I hope you feel better soon.

I looked at a bag of these the other day and they had wheat in them. Not sure if some of the flavors are gluten-free. I just looked at a bag of the plain baked lays b/c we were at a cookout and the host had bought them.

I hope you feel better soon!!!

I know the Baked BBQ Lays (my favorite  ) have wheat, and I wouldn't touch olestra at all... it gives you anal leakage! I have enough problems down there without adding that in, esp. as a "food ingrediant" - yuck.

thanks everyone...i re-read the bag and it isn't a wheat issue. The baked lays were a lot yummier than the regular of this flavor...but shoot, i'm not eating those again! I'm feeling a little weak still but i think the "leakage" has subsided....now I'll just be laying around for an entire day trying to recover.

ugh!

An alternative you might want to consider are Kettle Brand Bakes Potato Chips, lightly salted. The ingredients are gluten free and they do not contain any Olestra. Since there are Kettle Brand Bakes made from wheat products there is probably a risk of cross contamination. I have not had any problems with them.

Olestra containg foods all list digestive problems ie. bloating, gas and D .The calorie reduction isn't worth it. Eat some real chips and eat less of them

I noticed eating gluten-free or CGF foods have higher sugar and sodium some. No added sugar protein bars I found better with plant fiber. I wanted to know what are you go to besides whole fruits/veggies that you find are healthy for you where you can feel eating normal without hurting yourself or health. I was looking into subscription based like Thrift to see if there is something that is healthier CGF that can make me feel normal. Thanks

Thankyou because I met up with K B with well known bay area hospital once and she said she knows I don't like to take meds, I said thats incorrect, I have issues.Thats the one that said I was deemed " unruly " when she admitted I was celiac when I asked why am I going through this.

Cristiana, that sounds like a great approach and I will be looking forward to the results. I am in the same boat as you. I don't experience overt symptoms with minor, cross contamination level exposures so I sometimes will indulge in those "processed on equipment that also processes wheat . . ." or items that don't specifically claim to be gluten free but do not list gluten containing grains in their ingredient list. But I always wonder if I am still experiencing sub acute inflammatory reactions. I haven't had any celiac antibody blood work done since my diagnosis almost 25 years ago so I don't really have any data to go by.
