I can't find egg replacer anywhere....can I substitute egg white????? I'm wanting to make bread(not in a bread machine) and I'm going to use Bette's featherlite rice bread recipe and it calls for 1tsp egg replacer...can I use 1 egg white????

Also when making bread do you use the dough hook for mixing ect??? or the triangle like attchment???

Thanks soooo much!Jess

I don't think you should use egg whites unless you know that it is only the yolk that bothers you. The whites have more proteins so are more likely than the yolk to be a problem with allergies and intolerance.

I have used an egg replacer before with good results but I guess if you can't find one that won't help you. If you are looking in the future make sure you get egg replacer and not egg substitute because most egg substitutes actually have egg whites in them. I didn't know that until someone pointed it out to me.

Here is a site I've used before for ideas on how to replace eggs:

I haven't tried many of them so I don't know how well they work. I used extra banana and extra potato flower and a bit of water in a banana bread to replace eggs once and that turned out well.

Good luck

Bette's recipe calls for eggs and egg replacer...from what I have found egg replacer is dried egg whites!

Whoops, I think I misinterpreted your post. Sorry. I thought you couldn't have eggs. So if you can have eggs, I think you could probably use one egg. I'm not 100% sure on that though.

Maybe the recipe was trying to minimize allergens by excluding eggs or I know that recipes for a bread machine sometimes use egg replacer instead of eggs so that you can put it on time bake and not worry about an egg sitting in there going bad.

Sorry I wasn't of much help.

That's ok...I wasn't very clear that the egg replacer was an actual ingredient!!! I'm going to the allergist tomorrow...so who knows he may say I have an allergy to eggs!!!LOL

I'm going to tryo using one egg white and see what happens....pray from me! :D

I understand that if you can use eggs in the recipe you don't have to use egg replacer. Don't know why that is sometimes included, but that's what I read some place. Egg replacer is mostly for people who cannot tolerate eggs. My bread recipe calls for both whole eggs and egg white.

Egg replacer is not the same thing as egg substitutes such as Egg Beaters. The ingredients of the Ener-G brand are: Potato Starch, tapioca starch flour, leavening (calcium lactate [not derived from dairy], calcium carbonate, citric acid [corn derived]), sodium carboxymethylcellulose, methylcellulose

Thanks for the link.

I've tried EnerG egg replacer and ground flax seeds before, and those both work. Knowing these other techniques will give me more flexibility in doing recipe conversion.

Im so frustrated and still getting the run around trying to reprove my celiac disease which my past primary ignored for 25 years.I understand that theres a ray of medical that doctors are limited too but not listening and telling the patient ( me) that im not as sensitive as I think and NOT celiac!Correction Mr white coat its not what I think but for cause and affect and past test that are not sticking in my medical records.I get sick violently with foods consumed, not eating the foods will show Im fabulous. After many blood draws and going through doctors I have the HLA- DQ2 positive which I read in a study that Iran conducted that the severity in celiac is in that gene.Im glutenfree and dealing with related issues which core issue of celiac isn't addressed. My skin, right eye, left leg diagestive issues affected. I have high blood pressure because im in pain.Im waisting my time on trying to reprove that Im celiac which is not a disease I want, but unfortunately have. It  has taken over my life personally and professionally. How do I stop getting medically gaslight and get the help needed to bounce back if I ever do bounce back to normal? I thought I was in good care with " celiac specialist " but in her eyes Im good.Im NOT.Sibo positive, IBS, Chronic Fatigue just to name a few and its all related to what I like to call a ghost disease ( celiac) since doctors don't seem to take it seriously.

@Martha Mitchell, your reaction to the lens implant with gluten sounds like it could be an allergic reaction rather than a celiac reaction. It is possible for a celiac to be also allergic to gluten as it is a protein component in wheat, barley and rye.

Scott I also have different symptoms than most people. It affects me bad. Stomach ache, headache, nauseous, heart racing, whole body shaking, can't walk then my throat starts to close. It attacks my nervous system. The only thing that saves me is a 1/2 of Xanax...it calms down my nervous system

Scott Adams. I was dealing with a DR that didn't care about me being celiac. I repeatedly told him that I was celiac and is everything gluten-free. He put an acrylic lens from j&j. I called the company to ask about gluten and was told yes that the acrylic they use has gluten....then they back tracked immediately and stopped talking to me. The Dr didn't care that I was having issues. It took me 6 months and a lot of sickness to get it removed.... which can only happen within 6 months. The Dr that took it out said that it was fused and that's why I lost vision. If they would have removed it right away everything would be fine. He put in a silicone one that was gluten-free and I've had no issues at all in the other eye. Do not do acrylic!
