Don't Believe It

I was told on Monday of this week that I have a classic case of Celiac Spure but I find it hard to believe. I had diaherria for five months but when my regular physician changed my blood pressure meds the diaherria stopped. Gastro doctor did colonscopy and endoscopy and said that the picutres show classic Celiac Sprue. I have NO symptons - none. He wants me to go on a gluten free diet and have my adult children tested for Celia. No one else in my family has ever have Celiac or had any symptons of Celiac. The doctor told me that I could get a second opinion but that he would guarantee that the second opinion would also be Celiac. Am I just being stubborn or what?

If you want to be sure, then get the second opinion. It won't hurt, and maybe it will hep convince you one way or the other.

I too had absolutely no symptoms, not even the D. I ended up with gall bladder problems and through all of that testing I was told I had it from the biopsy that was done. Later I had the blood work done to confirm what the biopsy had shown. Some people have no symptoms until something else happens. I guess it depends on the person. Also no one else in my family has nor heard of Celiac until I was diagnosed. Now 3 of my 4 boys have been tested and only the oldest who is also diabetic has it. So good luck and get the second opinion. Not all doctors are right at first chance.

You don't need symptoms to have Celiac. Symptoms aren't what Celiac is. Celiac is defined by the damage to the villi by the presence of gluten.

Open Original Shared Link is a good site with many resources. It is one of the best Celiac practices in the country.

"Characteristics of celiac disease

It is unclear whether celiac disease is an autoimmune disease or an inflammatory condition with autoimmune aspects. The clinical classification of celiac disease is based on the presence of gastrointestinal symptoms. Symptomatic, active or classical celiac disease refers to presentations with diarrhea, with or without malabsorption, whereas in asymptomatic or silent celiac disease gastrointestinal symptoms are lacking or not prominent even though extra-intestinal symptoms may be present. The majority of individuals with celiac disease are considered to have the silent form."

This treatment looks promising. Its aim is to provoke immune tolerance of gluten, possibly curing the disease. It passed the phase 2 trial with flying colours, and I came across a post on Reddit by one of the study volunteers. Apparently, the results were good enough that the company is applying for fast track approval.  Anokion Announces Positive Symptom Data from its Phase 2 Trial Evaluating KAN-101 for the Treatment of Celiac Disease https://www.reddit.com/r/Celiac/comments/1krx2wh/kan_101_trial_put_on_hold/

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.
