:D I found a gluten free beer. It is made by the Ramapo Valley Brewing

company www.ramapovalleybrewery.com I was able to purchase it in

a place in Park Slope, Brooklyn New York

Hey, I did a lot of reading on beer today, had no idea there are some out there we can have. Ohhhhhhh, that is great.

My question is, what does it cost? I emailed them today to see if anyone sold it around here and got a response that they will ship it anywhere, but I'll bet it costs an arm and a leg. I responded that I wanted a price quote....no answer yet.

I just received an email from them quoting $19.01 for shipping of a case to me in Montana, I didn't think that was too bad since I ship collectibles and antiques for a living, I know how outrageous shipping has gotten. That works out to just over $2 a bottle, it is pricey, but I would do it if I had the money. As soon as I do, I will! Of course I will be drinking very slowly....

I just tried the RVB Honey Lager last night. It's not bad. It's pretty sweet, but I think it will satisfy my craving for beer. Cheers!

I ordered a case a few days ago and am anxiously awaiting it's arrival. The lady who took my order said this is the third batch they've made and that it keeps getting better. She said this batch isn't as sweet as the last. It was $35.00 a case plus $10.00 for shipping. My 40th birthday is coming up and it'll be wonderful to have some beer after NOT for 2 years. ~~Wonder if the bars would let me bring in my own that eve??? :ph34r: I won't want to drink anything else. :blink: I'm SOO excited!!

The beer order arrived over a week ago. It's wonderful!!! I can't believe it!!!! :D I let my husband have a sip and he agreed that it just taste like plain old GOOD beer. (I told him if he wanted any more he'd have to pay me :o) He keeps taunting me and saying I'll have it finished off before my birthday arrives in a week. I still have 16 left, no problem.

It IS a little on the sweet side, or at least it hints at being sweet because of the honey. But it's a "dry" honey flavor. Very yummy. Also very potent!! That concerns me a bit, here in the US isn't beer supposed to be under a certain % of alcohol--which is why folks come back from Canada with beer because in Canada they're allowed to make it stronger...???

I had 2 the first day, without having eaten much, and they just about knocked me on my butt. :blink: I was surprised.

Anyway....anyone on the fence about ordering, go for it. I always enjoyed the more complex beers like Newcastle, & Killians, so if that's the kind you like (used to like to drink) then you should enjoy the Ramapo as well. The brewery claims they have started to have waiting lists.

I understand there's another gluten-free beer out there -- Bards Tale Beer. But, I haven't been able to find it anywhere. I think it may be in Europe?

I Have heard from some of my european friends that Amstel Light beer is gluten free, it does not contain any wheat, I have contacted Amstel and waiting for a reply, has anyone heard this??

Amstel Light mght not have wheat (a lot of beers don't) but I think it's a good bet it has barley. It's not gluten-free.

This is the message I received back from Amstel, I tried the beer and did not have any reaction, I am very sensitive to Gluten and normally react within 30-45 minutes, so far so good.

Thank you for your recent email message. We appreciate you taking time to

contact us, as we value comments from consumers. Heineken USA has been

informed by our parent company, Heineken NV, that our beer does not contain

wheat or other grain adjuncts. Our recipe contains only barley, hops,

yeast and water. Although barley has a source of gluten, the gluten

contents of our products is lower than the gluten free level.

Consequently, Amstel Light is considered gluten free.

Gluten free to me means completely free of gluten, not "our beer has gluten but it falls below some arbitrary line." Also, when they talk about being below a certain level, I guess they're talking about some European standard, where it's my understanding they are indeed allowed to have a certain amount of gluten and still be considered gluten-free. The U.S., in fact, has no standard whatsoever. In Canada, as I understand, gluten-free means no gluten at all.

Of course the reality is that we're probably gettings traces of gluten frequently, but I prefer to avoid something that I know has gluten in it, no matter how small the amount.

Ohhh, seems to good to be true. I wish someone could get independant tests done, I would love to have a kit that tested for gluten. I am one who doesn't react right away so it is scary. It seems good that you didn't react Pauline, please repost if you end up with delayed reaction o.k.? :)

Very interesting about the Amstel light, since ramapo vally has shot up to

60.00 a case from NY to Virginia. That's just a little too high.

please let me know if you have reactions, as i have silent Sprue

(can't tell if I ate a truck load of wheat and barley)

I need to battle this osteporosis that the disease has caused and would love to

be able to drink beer at my 25 high school reunion!!!

      Hello, @Jordan Carlson, So glad you're feeling better.   Tecta is a proton pump inhibitor.  PPI's also interfere with the production of the intrinsic factor needed to absorb Vitamin B12.  Increasing the amount of B12 you supplement has helped overcome the lack of intrinsic factor needed to absorb B12. Proton pump inhibitors also reduce the production of digestive juices (stomach acids).  This results in foods not being digested thoroughly.  If foods are not digested sufficiently, the vitamins and other nutrients aren't released from the food, and the body cannot absorb them.  This sets up a vicious cycle. Acid reflux and Gerd are actually symptoms of producing too little stomach acid.  Insufficient stomach acid production is seen with Thiamine and Niacin deficiencies.  PPI's like Tecta also block the transporters that pull Thiamine into cells, preventing absorption of thiamine.  Other symptoms of Thiamine deficiency are difficulty swallowing, gagging, problems with food texture, dysphagia. Other symptoms of Thiamine deficiency are symptoms of ADHD and anxiety.  Vyvanse also blocks thiamine transporters contributing further to Thiamine deficiency.  Pristiq has been shown to work better if thiamine is supplemented at the same time because thiamine is needed to make serotonin.  Doctors don't recognize anxiety and depression and adult onset ADHD as early symptoms of Thiamine deficiency. Stomach acid is needed to digest Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) in fruits and vegetables.  Ascorbic acid left undigested can cause intestinal upsets, anxiety, and heart palpitations.   Yes, a child can be born with nutritional deficiencies if the parents were deficient.  Parents who are thiamine deficient have offspring with fewer thiamine transporters on cell surfaces, making thiamine deficiency easier to develop in the children.  A person can struggle along for years with subclinical vitamin deficiencies.  Been here, done this.  Please consider supplementing with Thiamine in the form TTFD (tetrahydrofurfuryl disulfide) which helps immensely with dysphagia and neurological symptoms like anxiety, depression, and ADHD symptoms.  Benfotiamine helps with improving intestinal health.  A B Complex and NeuroMag (a magnesium supplement), and Vitamin D are needed also.

You'll want to get checked for nutritional deficiencies and start on supplementation of B vitamins, especially Thiamine Vitamin B 1.   There's some scientific evidence that the fat pad that buffers the aorta which disappears in SMA is caused by deficiency in Thiamine.   In Thiamine deficiency, the body burns its stored fat as a source of fuel.  That fat pad between the aorta and digestive system gets used as fuel, too.       Wow! You're pretty young to have a diagnosis of SMA syndrome. But youth also has its advantages when it comes to healing, without a doubt. You might be surprised to find out how your health improves and how much better you feel once you eliminate gluten from your diet. Celiac disease is an autoimmune disorder that, when gluten is consumed, triggers an attack on the villous lining of the small bowel. This is the section of the intestines where all our nutrition is absorbed. It is made up of billions of tiny finger-like projections that create a tremendous surface area for absorbing nutrients. For the person with celiac disease, unchecked gluten consumption generates inflammation that wears down these fingers and, over time, greatly reduces the nutrient absorbing efficiency of the small bowel lining. This can generate a whole host of other nutrient deficiency related medical problems. We also now know that the autoimmune reaction to gluten is not necessarily limited to the lining of the small bowel such that celiac disease can damage other body systems and organs such as the liver and the joints and cause neurological problems.  It can take around two years for the villous lining to completely heal but most people start feeling better well before then. It's also important to realize that celiac disease can cause intolerance to some other foods whose protein structures are similar to gluten. Chief among them are dairy and oats but also eggs, corn and soy. Just keep that in mind.
