I can still get into the new site but DO get the certificate warning.

Harrumphf for those who can't! <_<

On a much more pleasant note...I got my stimulus check. I wasn't even sure I would get one, but that must be what it was...it was direct deposited into my account!

Okay, what's with Spring Clean, lol! That was one of the freebies they sent out as a special...I think it's supposed to be a blush. It is really gray...I put it on, and well, it's still gray. But, it wasn't gray in a horrid way, I think there may have been a hint of nice color, but I'm not sure. Not quite a bronzer, not quite a blush...what the heck is it?! So that was on my cheeks...not really any color that I could discern, but it did look like I had a little blush on...it just didn't have a color. Then I put Summer Stroll overit (you know, the really VIVID ORANGE in the jar thing)...ahhhhhh, Donna is happy again, lol.

Oh, and don't go rushing out to buy a heated eyelash curler either...can't say that that works any better than the standard old fashioned kind, and in fact, may not have done even as good a job as the old fashioned kind.

Still no kits this morning.

BUT, I should be getting two deliveries this morning...I ordered some shoes and they are out for delivery...AND my antibiotics that had to be ordered from a pharmacy in Washington should also be delivered today. Woohoo fun times in California!

Sorry, I'm cracking myself up again.

Donna,

I was just reading the blog on the old em site. Some people are getting pretty impatient with the new site and not being able to order.

Carina posted an update that she's not pressuring the programmers as they've got enough self imposed stress. We just need to sit tight and wait, and place orders on the old site if something is really needed.

Gosh, I just read a some of the comments on the news section of the site.

Some of these people have serious emotional issues as far as their make-up is concerned  .

Anywho....I thought I'd mention that I'm quite enjoying Daydream blush these days. It's a bit like Waffle Cone, minus the sparkly stuff.

:)

Wow! I ordered another sample kit on Wednesday, and I received it in yesterday's mail! :o Obviously, it was sent USPS and not DHL! I just can't believe how fast those shipping gremlins are!!

I forgot that I wanted to get another brush, though! My mom is coming to visit me next month, and I can't wait to have her try this and order her own sample kits! She's going to love this stuff!!

 at the people having serious emotional issues regarding their make-up, Mango!!

Donna, congrats on the stimulus check! I bet that was a great little surprise!!! We got ours too, it went directly to a credit card. <_<

Mango!! The whole economy depends on you spending that money here! On your native soil!

And none of that paying bills stuff. Did none of you get the instructions?? That money is to be spent on something you can't afford and probably don't need.

Now I want all of you to search your minds for what you can buy that is NOT a necessity and you wouldn't otherwise get.

Well, indirectly you're helping our economy...the extra money means that you have more to spend on EM makeup. :P

Well, I DID need shoes, but I don't think I needed 8 pairs, which is what I got.

I recently got an order of make up from the old site. My mom needed more stuff because she was almost out of foundation, and couldn't wait until the new site is up. I only got 1 thing out of her order...she told me when the new site is up that she will buy me a couple custom kits. :):P:D So until then...nothing exciting in my order. Just foundation and one blush (which I use as eye shadow, lol).

That would be me, and I need your support fellow Celiac makeup lovers. I was able to kick the pasta and bread aside with very few tears, but this makeup thing has me up in arms! I finally felt better yesterday after a year of stress and disease, wanted to look cute, reached for my deluxe makeup kit with brand new goodies from NARS cosmetics - eyes shadows, blush, and my favorite lipsticks - and today I have the usual glutened puffy eyes, light-headed feeling, and GI symptoms: waaaaaaahhhh!

The thing is, I also broke down and had a little bit of swiss and parmigan chesse, but I read somewhere that we should be able to tolerate hard cheeses, and I usually do, so .... I emailed the NARS company today, and asked for a product list, and they wrote back and said that all of their products are gluten-free. Am I supposed to just trust this statement? I replied that I think that is great news, but I still want a product ingredient list. What do you guys think?

Mango04 Enthusiast

May I vent for a moment about a totally non-make-up related topic? Thanks, because I don't feel like starting a new thread. So, I just moved into a new apartment, and guess what is all over my kitchen? ... seriously....alllll over it......

....Satan...sorry, I meant seitan (is that how you spell it?)

Of all the foods a person might be able to subsist on, why must my roommate choose pure vital wheat gluten? It is all over the fridge....and there are several packages of it in the freezer, just waiting to be defrosted and distributed to every surface in the kitchen. Seriously, there's probably one person in the entire Czech Republic who even eats seitan (I didn't think they even had vegetarians here lol) and I end up living with her. ug.... <_<

I must move.

Okay, anyway.....

Have you ordered a free sample kit from EM yet? If not, you should! EM discloses all of their ingredients :D

OK, I followed that link a while back on cosmetic safety, so thanks a bunch for posting it. Apparently, NARS is gluten-free, but has many other issues. I noticed that they use Toccopherol and Bismuth. I'll have to clear out my system and test the makeup again with no other confounding factors. I'm not sure why I am sick again today.

Geez, I think I've just reached my limit - messing with my makeup bag. :P

@Jane02, I hear you about the kale and collard greens.  I don't do dairy and must eat green leafies, too, to get sufficient calcium.  I must be very careful because some calcium supplements are made from ground up crustacean shells.  When I was deficient in Vitamin D, I took high doses of Vitamin D to correct the deficiency quickly.  This is safe and nontoxic.  Vitamin D level should be above 70 nmol/L.  Lifeguards and indigenous Pacific Islanders typically have levels between 80-100 nmol/L.   Levels lower than this are based on amount needed to prevent disease like rickets and osteomalacia. We need more thiamine when we're physically ill, emotionally and mentally stressed, and if we exercise like an athlete or laborer.  We need more thiamine if we eat a diet high in simple carbohydrates.  For every 500 kcal of carbohydrates, we need 500-1000 mg more of thiamine to process the carbs into energy.  If there's insufficient thiamine the carbs get stored as fat.  Again, recommended levels set for thiamine are based on minimum amounts needed to prevent disease.  This is often not adequate for optimum health, nor sufficient for people with absorption problems such as Celiac disease.  Gluten free processed foods are not enriched with vitamins like their gluten containing counterparts.  Adding a B Complex and additional thiamine improves health for Celiacs.  Thiamine is safe and nontoxic even in high doses.  Thiamine helps the mitochondria in cells to function.  Thiamine interacts with each of the other B vitamins.  They are all water soluble and easily excreted if not needed. Interesting Reading: Clinical trial: B vitamins improve health in patients with coeliac disease living on a gluten-free diet https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/19154566/ Safety and effectiveness of vitamin D mega-dose: A systematic review https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34857184/ High dose dietary vitamin D allocates surplus calories to muscle and growth instead of fat via modulation of myostatin and leptin signaling https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/38766160/ Safety of High-Dose Vitamin D Supplementation: Secondary Analysis of a Randomized Controlled Trial https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/31746327/ Vitamins and Celiac Disease: Beyond Vitamin D https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC11857425/ Investigating the therapeutic potential of tryptophan and vitamin A in modulating immune responses in celiac disease: an experimental study https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/40178602/ Investigating the Impact of Vitamin A and Amino Acids on Immune Responses in Celiac Disease Patients https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC10814138/

Thank you so much @knitty kitty for this insightful information! I would have never considered fractionated coconut oil to be a potential source of GI upset. I will consider all the info you shared. Very interesting about the Thiamine deficiency.  I've tracked daily averages of my intake in a nutrition software. The only nutrient I can't consistently meet from my diet is vitamin D. Calcium is a hit and miss as I rely on vegetables, dark leafy greens as a major source, for my calcium intake. I'm able to meet it when I either eat or juice a bundle of kale or collard greens daily haha. My thiamine intake is roughly 120% of my needs, although I do recognize that I may not be absorbing all of these nutrients consistently with intermittent unintentional exposures to gluten.  My vitamin A intake is roughly 900% (~6400 mcg/d) of my needs as I eat a lot of sweet potato, although since it's plant-derived vitamin A (beta-carotene) apparently it's not likely to cause toxicity.  Thanks again!
    • knitty kitty
Hello, @Jane02,  I take Naturewise D 3.  It contains olive oil.   Some Vitamin D supplements, like D Drops, are made with fractionated coconut oil which can cause digestive upsets.  Fractionated coconut oil is not the same as coconut oil used for cooking.  Fractionated coconut oil has been treated for longer shelf life, so it won't go bad in the jar, and thus may be irritating to the digestive system. I avoid supplements made with soy because many people with Celiac Disease also react to soy.  Mixed tocopherols, an ingredient in Thornes Vitamin D, may be sourced from soy oil.  Kirkland's has soy on its ingredient list. I avoid things that might contain or be exposed to crustaceans, like Metagenics says on its label.  I have a crustacean/shellfish/fish allergy.  I like Life Extension Bioactive Complete B Complex.  I take additional Thiamine B 1 in the form Benfotiamine which helps the intestines heal, Life Extension MegaBenfotiamine. Thiamine is needed to activate Vitamin D.   Low thiamine can make one feel like they are getting glutened after a meal containing lots of simple carbohydrates like white rice, or processed gluten free foods like cookies and pasta.   It's rare to have a single vitamin deficiency.  The water soluble B Complex vitamins should be supplemented together with additional Thiamine in the form Benfotiamine and Thiamine TTFD (tetrahydrofurfuryl disulfide) to correct subclinical deficiencies that don't show up on blood tests.  These are subclinical deficiencies within organs and tissues.  Blood is a transportation system.  The body will deplete tissues and organs in order to keep a supply of thiamine in the bloodstream going to the brain and heart.   If you're low in Vitamin D, you may well be low in other fat soluble vitamins like Vitamin A and Vitamin K. Have you seen a dietician?
    • Scott Adams
I do not know this, but since they are labelled gluten-free, and are not really a product that could easily be contaminated when making them (there would be not flour in the air of such a facility, for example), I don't really see contamination as something to be concerned about for this type of product.
