Cadbury Mini Eggs =(

In our daily struggles with this disease, a "may or may not" answer is just not good enough for me. I can give up Cadberry Mini Eggs, but it's the principle here! This product either is gluten free or it is not, period!

I want the respect of an answer!

(thanks moongirl and patti for your contribution here :D , but I'm on a ramp!) :o

That is pretty much what I was getting, so pretty much what they are saying is the products not on their gluten-free list, they dont know if its gluten-free or not, if it has the natural flavorings....

what gets me is if they can't say if it is or not how can they choose what list to put it on?

well I have had better chocolate...the only Hershey's chocolate I eat is the mini eggs......plus they just raised the prices and are involved in a court case for price gouging....

Isn't it entirely TERRIFYING to think that these companies are putting "ingredients" in the foods we eat, and they have NO IDEA WHAT IS IN THEM??????????

Absolutely!!!! They should be held accountable.

Not buying Hershey products won't effect them unless you let them know why.

Oh I already told them why, and i gave her the whole breakdown of celiacs, cause she had no idea....and I told her that people with celiac disease can not take that risk, and you know what her answer was,....."OH OK" Real big help she was!

Supervisor Call:

All allergens are disclosed as required by law.

Natural Flavor is outsourced and that information is "proprietary and not given" and are not required to full disclosure (other than the eight allergens)

"All Hershey products that contain "Natural Flavors" are considered not gluten free, is that correct"? YES

SHAME ON HERSHEY!!!!!

SHAME ON HERSHEY!!!!!

(Amanda, one finger for me!!)

Can do!

A lot of people in this town are angry with Hershey, next to the Medical Center where I work, the chocolate factory was the next biggest employer. With their idea to move operations out of America to other countries a lot of jobs were cut here and in other Hershey factories in the US....and since the move the chocolate has not been as good...I have heard many complaints.

So now that they are not helping the celiac community I will find chocolate elsewhere.

I have to admit, Wegmans makes their own high class chocolate and did confirm gluten free status on the milk chocolate bar I liked. It was a little more pricer than a Hershey's bar but it also tasted sooo much better!

Wow that is just so wrong and seems like such a lazy CYA statement. Guess I'll add Hershey to my letter writing list.

SO, basically they are saying that they have absolutely no idea what types of ingredients they are putting in their candy. Wow. Uh... yea... I don't think I'll be eating Hershey's anymore, EVER!

I'm confused, the eggs are labeled as being free of gluten, but one of the ingredients in them cannot be verified as gluten-free by the company, but the label does not reflect this?

So does this mean we can't trust the labeling, not just with Hersheys, but other companies that possibly use outsourced ingredients they cannot verify as gluten-free?

Julie,

The Cad Mini Eggs are not labled "gluten free", but they will not verify their "Natural Flavors" as gluten free. So they may or may not have an ingredient as barley, malt or rye, therefore they will not verify that the product is gluten free.....or all of Hershey's Products.

Hersheys has a long track record of being consistently inconsistent in their responses when people call their customer care line. Open Original Shared Link from another celiac board from 2006. It is the same crappy CYA, the same runaround. I used to be a big fan of Hersheys, but I am not so sure anymore. I definitely won't eat any of their products that contain natural flavors.

WOW, two years later....the same run-a-round. A progressive company, I think. <_<:angry::angry:

soooo are they SAFE? are they wheat/gluten free?

Fiddle-Faddle Community Regular

I don't think it's any great loss--I've always thought Hershey's chocolate had a sour-milk aftertaste, anyway.

(HERSHEY'S--I hope you are reading this!!! Chocolate that doesn't taste as good as the competitor's, AND you can't even bother to learn what the ingredients are?? Double shame on you! )

WHAT??!! :o I went on a company calling spree before Halloween. Many of the companies that I called, INCLUDING HERSHEY'S, told me that they disclose all gluten in their ingredients. I thought that as long as there was no gluten in the ingredient statement, we were fine. <_< I'm calling them today!

Ms. Celiac Apprentice

So it seems like the mini Cadbury eggs are not gluten free. Are the regular sized Cadbury eggs safe? Or safe as far as we know?

As Hershey has stated - "ANY PRODUCT THAT LISTS NATURAL FLAVOR IS NOT GLUTEN FREE". The company itself will not quarantee the gluten free status of their products.

Ms. Celiac Apprentice

Do the regular Cadbury eggs contain natural flavors?

Glutenfreefamily Enthusiast

Thats it Im protesting Hershey's and telling my family members too. <_<

Mars company is better anyways. My family loves m-n-m's.

I found this but cant guarantee it hasnt been changed so its best to check the label, it doesnt appear to contain natural flavors.

It does, however, tell you that one egg is 32% fat!!!

Hi all I’ve been celiac for 4 years now, I’ve done pretty well to avoid it thus far. Last night I took the wrong pizza out of the freezer and ate the whole lot!! The non gluten and gluten pizza boxes are both very similar.   2 hours later I was throwing up violently on my hands and knees over the loo.  .horrendous stomach pains,  My hair was wet from sweat every part of my body was wet. What an awful experience, just had a bad headache today  fortunately.    Is their any products/pills anyone takes if they have realised they have just been glutened to make the symptoms a little less worse.  thanks

Yes, do take your B Complex with Benfotiamine or Thiamax.  Thiamine interacts with each of the other B vitamins in the B Complex to make energy and enzymes, so best to take them together earlier in your day.  Taking them too close to bedtime can keep you too energetic to go to sleep.   The Life Extension Benfotiamine with Thiamine is Benfotiamine and Thiamine Hydrochloride, another form of thiamine the body likes.  The Thiamine HCl just helps the Benfotiamine work better.   Read the label for how many milligrams are in them.  The Mega Benfotiamine is 250 mgs.  Another Benfothiamine has 100 mgs.  You might want to start with the 100 mg.    I like to take Thiamax in the morning with a B Complex at breakfast.  I take the Benfotiamine with another meal.  You can take your multivitamin with Benfotiamine at lunch.   Add a magnesium supplement, too.  Thiamine needs magnesium to make some important enzymes.  Life Extension makes Neuro-Mag, Magnesium Threonate, which is really beneficial.  (Don't take Magnesium Oxide.  It's not absorbed well, instead it pulls water into the digestive tract and is used to relieve constipation.)  I'm not a big fan of multivitamins because they don't always dissolve well in our intestines, and give people a false sense of security.  (There's videos on how to test how well your multivitamin dissolves.).  Multivitamins don't prevent deficiencies and aren't strong enough to correct deficiencies.   I'm happy you are trying Thiamax and Benfotiamine!  Keep us posted on your progress!  I'm happy to answer any questions you may have.

I looked further into Thiamax Vitamin B1 by objective nutrients and read all the great reviews. I think I will give this a try. I noticed only possible side affect is possibly the first week so body adjusts. Life Extensions carries Benfotiamine with Thiamine and the mega one you mentioned. Not sure if both in one is better or seperate. some reviews state a laxative affect as side affect. SHould I take with my super B complex or just these 2 and multivitamin? I will do further research but I appreciate the wonderful explanation you provided on Thiamine.

There are other Celiac genes. HLA DQ 2 and HLA DQ 8 show up in people from Northern European descent.   People of Mediterranean descent have HLA DQ 7.  People of Asian descent have HLA DQ 9.   There's other Indigenous populations that have other HLA genes that code for Celiac disease.   Are you still having symptoms?   What do you include in your diet?  Are you vegetarian? Are you taking any prescription medication?  Omeprazole?  Metformin?   Do you have anemia?  Thyroid problems? Are you taking any vitamins or herbal supplements?
