Confusion Over Test Results

I have had IBS and migraines most of my life. I tried a mostly gluten free diet for a year and then after going off the diet for about a month, I had and endoscopy and biopsy. The biopsy was negative for celiac. But my lab results 3 years ago and my repeat labs this year are as follows:

Gliadin AB IGA 5H U/ML Normal range 0-4

Gliadin AB IGG 10H U/ML Normal range 0-9

Endomysial IGA Negative

On the mostly gluten free diet I felt better overall but no real change in the headache pattern. Any significance to the lab results? Or is there something else I might be missing or that I should be looking into?

Thanks

If you did a mostly gluten-free diet for a year and were back on a full gluten diet for only a month, then that would have caused a negative biopsy. Still, your blood work is positive.

Since you have never been 100% gluten-free you are still reacting enough to have positive blood work and are still doing damage to yourself. Which might also be the cause of your headaches.

I suggest you completely, 100%, eliminate gluten immediately in order to get better. Being mostly gluten-free is not enough.

@rjane, yes, it often feels overwhelming in the beginning. But let me encourage you by saying that it will get easier. You and your husband will develop, over time, a sixth sense of how gluten is typically hidden in the food supply and where it is found and you will develop an inventory of foods that you can trust and to stock your pantry with. The largest risk involves eating out at restaurants. Even if you order things that are naturally gluten free, you have no control over cross contamination happening back in the kitchen in how things are prepared and handled. Another trap is eating at other people's homes who are trying to accommodate your husband's need to eat gluten free but...
