My DD felt the same way about the snickers. In fact she wrote her college entrance exam about the way she enjoyed snickers bars. She ate them with a knive and fork and made quite a procedure out of it. It was a wonderful essay dealing with how deprived she felt about celiac and the simple joy that having a snickers gave her. Not only did she get into her first choice college but they were great on the celiac issue and she went into senior housing to accomodate her kitchen needs.

Thanks for the memory jog. :)

This is good to know, I am tired of walking up to the register and looking away from the candy staring me in the face! LOL Maybe I should look at it like its a good thing, less snacking. NAW I want a candy bar I don't have to go to a different store so I can find something safe, just something normal sometimes is nice.

Oats naturally contain a protein called avenin, which is similar to the gluten proteins found in wheat, barley, and rye. While avenin is generally considered safe for most people with celiac disease, some individuals, around 5-10% of celiacs, may also have sensitivity to avenin, leading to symptoms similar to gluten exposure. You may fall into this category, and eliminating them is the best way to figure this out. Some people substitute gluten-free quinoa flakes for oats if they want a hot cereal substitute. If you are interested in summaries of scientific publications on the topic of oats and celiac disease, we have an entire category dedicated to it which is here: https://www.celiac.com/celiac-disease/oats-and-celiac-disease-are-they-gluten-free/
