Hi!

Sorry I have been gone for a while. I have been super busy. Working two jobs, four kids, the works. LOL But I have a question for you brilliant people. You all know way more than I do, I like to pick your brains! :)

I was wondering if you knew if Pork and Beans were gluten free, and if not what is a good substitute? Also, what about chocolate chips? My dad said that Hershey's chocolate chips are gluten free. But are they really? And if not, do you have any other suggestions as to which ones I could use? Please help. I want to make muffins and need to know what kinds I can use. Thanks so much in advance!!!

Lexi

Ingredients can change without warning, so the best way to know if something is safe is to read labels. Here is a list of companies who will clearly list all forms of gluten (as in wheat, barley, malt and rye). If you don't see these words from these companies, it just isn't there.

Hope this helps.

I am not sure about pork and beans (what brands) but for chocolate chips I use Nestle--Toll House (they will label if present). There is also Enjoy Life brand.

I use the Great Value brand chocolate chips from Walmart and only $1.12 right now. It says gluten-free on the bag in big letters. I use Van Camp's Baked Beans from Con Agra who is on the list of safe brands. They say they state if its not gluten-free. Mine say modified "corn" starch. You can call them @ 1-800-826-2267 Many canned beans are safe but no so with chili beans so be careful with those.

I have bought some pork and beans that were safe, but offhand I can't remember the brand. I do generally buy organic beans though.

We have additional food allergies, so Enjoy Life are the only ones we use.

I used to buy the walmart brand chips before going DF. They're great :) I also used Nestle with no problems.

This treatment looks promising. Its aim is to provoke immune tolerance of gluten, possibly curing the disease. It passed the phase 2 trial with flying colours, and I came across a post on Reddit by one of the study volunteers. Apparently, the results were good enough that the company is applying for fast track approval.  Anokion Announces Positive Symptom Data from its Phase 2 Trial Evaluating KAN-101 for the Treatment of Celiac Disease https://www.reddit.com/r/Celiac/comments/1krx2wh/kan_101_trial_put_on_hold/

BTW, we've done other articles on this topic that I wanted to share here (not to condone smoking!):

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.
