Hi- I'm brand new to this forum so if I'm posting this in the wrong place please forgive me. My question is a

little weird...has anyone with Celiac Disease/Gluten Intolerance ever had issues with cravings (uncontrollable)

for bread, pasta or anything containing gluten?

I'm not diagnosed as having celiac disease (my 9-year-old son is) but I have always had a "sensitive stomach"-sensitive meaning I don't eat pasta at a restaurant unless I am going home immediately.

So, if anyone has experience with gluten gluttony please let me know.

Thank you :D

I haven't been diagnosed, but bread is always the first thing I crave. Pasta is a close second. They both make me feel terrible. I'm with ya on the pasta thing - except it usually hits me before we even leave the restaurant. I remember one time I wasn't sure I'd be able to get up and walk to the car. I made it, but I felt like a little old lady with a walker, except I didn't have a walker!

Yes, I am a recovered Bulimic. I craved gluten foods....pizza...donuts....

Gluten/Gliadin act as opiates in the brain. It is a drug and if you dont eat it for awhile (even a few hours) your brain screams for more. But like all drugs it does it's damage int the process.

I’ve used tinctures and made my own edibles with gluten-free ingredients to stay safe. Dispensary staff don’t always know about gluten, so I double-check labels or just make my own.

It's great to hear that there are some good doctors out there, and this is an example of why having a formal diagnosis can definitely be helpful.

Update: I have a wonderful new gastroenterologist. She wants to be sure there’s nothing more serious, like refractory celiac, going on. She ordered various tests including some micronutrient tests that no one has ever ordered before.  I’m deficient in folate and zinc and starting supplements for both. I’m so glad I decided to go to a new GI!

Autoimmune diseases tend to cluster. Many of them are found close together on the chromosomes.

Just giving another update... I was referred to rheumatology, and they suspect that I may also be dealing with fibromyalgia (it has not been formally diagnosed, but just suggested at this point).  So, I am continuing with the anti-inflammatory diet and vitamins and still working to keep getting rid of all these hidden gluten sources, but I also do have another possible explanation for some of the issues that I'm dealing with.
