Bobs gluten-free Oats

I was excited to buy bob's gluten-free oats. I got the steele cut oats.

The first time I tried them I got gassy and had some gurgling...wasnt dure if it was the oats or something else, so I waited a couple weeks and tried them again today, differant reaction : I got D for the first time in like 3 or 4 months!!! Not to be graphic, but it came out yellow and foamy! :ph34r:

I used to eat oatmeal every morning for so many years. Initailly when I went "gluten-free" and dint know that oats were a "no no" I was still eating them and noticed they didnt bother me as much as wheat, but once I took them out of my diet, thats when my symptoms REALLY disapeared. I guesss I just can't tolerate oats. I actually didnt mind the D too much since I've been dealing with constipation...(isnt that a horrible thought?) lol.... but I'm just glad I had off from work today- the cramps were not very friendly!!

Yes, I got sick from them too. I don't think that it was from contamination because I was very sick.

My son had the same reaction. It says on the package that some celiacs react to the protein in oats

and we seem to be in that group of celiacs. Lucky us. We were both sick for about 3 weeks. It will

be a problem as gluten-free oats become more available because companies making gluten-free foods won't be trying

to avoid cross contamination with gluten-free oats, just gluten. My reaction to them was the worse I've had

since going gluten-free 8 months ago.

the avenin protein in oats is somewhat similar to gliadin in wheat. approximately 10% of celiacs will react to it.

You're not alone. I've had a similar response to oats on several occasions. It is a real shame because I love oats but they don't love me!

<Sigh> I just bought a package today, but now I'm afraid to try it. Better wait till after vacation, at least.

I eat them quite often and also use them for cookies without any problem...I was diagnosed less than a year ago and added them to my diet gradually....once a week at first to check for a reaction. I guess I am one of the lucky ones :rolleyes:

I may try them just ONE more time down the road when I know I'll be home and not doing anything. I didnt get sick for weeks, but had D for hours, just one day...I went back to my constipated self the day after :huh: its like my body instantly rejected them....

I also have had the constipation problem my entire life, even before being diagnosed lactose intolerant, and this past year, a multitude of intestinal problems....milk, soy, gluten, casein, etc. Lack of fiber is not the problem...I exist on fiber. I have discovered that my system responds very well to a daily breakfast or snack of Perky's Nutty Flax cereal. I've tried bread with flax in it, and that didn't work as well as the cereal. Flax is a natural laxative......and for me, it works. It does not cause me to have diarrhea, nor does it cause intestinal cramps.

      Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

      I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.

      Exactly which blood tests were done? There are a few different ones and some docs don't do them all. Also, your results and reference ranges for each?
