gluten-free Birth Control Pill?

Has anyone found a birth control pill that is confirmed gluten free by the manufacturer? I recently tried Zovia which is on many gluten-free lists but which the company cannot confirm is gluten-free ("we don't put gluten in but can't be sure about the manufacturers we get our ingredients from"). Thought it was the usual "cover our ass" response, but be aware, Zovia is definitely NOT GLUTEN FREE! My doc wants me to start a new brand tomorrow and suggested Yaz, but again cannot get confirmation from manufacturer that it is in fact gluten-free. Please help! Need to be on pill for medical reasons - ovarian cancer and osteopenia protection. Can anyone offer any guidance? Thanks!

Jennifer

dx 1/07, gluten free since 1/07 but first negative antibody test in 5/08 after giving up Zovia! :)

I'm on Yasmin and have been for years which has been confirmed gluten free. Your gyno should know the answer to this or should at least be willing to call and find out which pills are gluten-free.

I was just reading a list of gluten-free medicines and my pill was on it, Aviane. Like the previous posters said, you should ask your doctor. Good Luck!

I take Balziva, it's generic for Ovcon, and I received an email from the manufacturer that it's gluten-free.

I use the Nuva Ring and love it! You don't have to take a pill everyday and you can rotate it so that you only have four periods a year!

here is the list of pills I have been on (all gluten-free as per manufacturer): yaz, portia, femcon FE, loestrin24 FE, Seasonique, and now nuvaring

I just got an email from Barr Laboratories, they manufacture a loestrin pill called Portia (generic for Nordette 28) They said it is gluten-free. It's also what I currently use.

Good Luck :)

I confirmed with a chemist at Watson Pharmaceuticals that Reclipsen is gluten-free as well. It uses corn-based starches as filler.

Portia 21 packs and 28 day packs are certified gluten-free :)

I'm now on Ortho Tri-Cyclen -- I was on the generic version (TriPrevifem or something like that) and the manufacturer said there was no gluten in the ingredients BUT they couldn't confirm it was gluten free. So back to the name brand which costs much more. My pharmacist is hunting to see if one of the other generics is gluten free. We shall see.

Hi ladies,

So I know this reply is a bit late, but after having recently been diagnosed as celiac I have been doing some research, and I have been on Levlen ED for the past 6yrs (only pill I've ever taken) and after emailing Bayer only yesterday they called me this morning confirming there is no gluten in the pills, however, there is maize starch. My response was purely, you beauty! Hope this helps someone.

So I've been dealing with chasing the name celiac because of my body actively dealing with health issues related to celiac though not eating. Diagnosed in 1994 before foods eliminated from diet. After 25 years with former pcp I googled celiac specialist and she wasn't because of what ive been through. I wanted my results to be sent to my pcp but nothing was sent.I have email copies.I did one zoom call with np with team member from celiac specialist in Nov 2025 and she asked me why I wanted to know why I wanted the celiac diagnosis so bad, I sad I don't, its my life and I need revalidaion because its affecting me.KB stated well it shows you are.I asked then why am I going through all this.I was labeled unruly. Its been a celiac circus and medical has caused anxiety and depression no fault to my own other than being born with bad genetics. How is it legal for medical professionals to gaslight patients that are with an ailment coming for help to be downplayed? KB put in my records that she personally spent 120min with me and I think the zoom call was discussing celiac 80 min ONE ZOOM call.SHE is responsible for not explaining to my pcp about celiac disease am I right?

I've noticed with my age and menopause my smell for bread gives me severe migraines and I know this. Its alarming that there are all these fabulous bakeries, sandwich places pizza places popping up in confined areas.Just the other day I suffered a migraine after I got done with my mri when a guy with a brown paper bag walk in front of me and I smelled that fresh dough bread with tuna, I got a migraine when we got home.I hate im that sensitive. Its alarming these places are popping up in airports as well.I just saw on the news that the airport ( can't remember which  one)was going to have a fabulous smelling bakery. Not for sensitive celiacs, this can alter their health during their travel which isn't safe. More awareness really NEEDS to be promoted, so much more than just a food consumption!FYI I did write to Stanislaus to let them know my thoughts on the medical field not knowing much about celiac and how it affects one.I also did message my gi the 3 specialist names that was given on previous post on questions on celiac. I pray its not on deaf door.
