Ordered The Biocard Test...(long Post, Sorry)

Hello, just wanted to give an update... just out of curiosity. I ordered the Biocard home celiac test. I should be getting it anyday now. I checked with the company I ordered it from, and it takes about 10 days to get here. I have been eating gluten, and very sick of that. I have now come to the difinitive conclusion, that I really dont need any more tests to tell me that for whatever reason, Im sicker when I eat gluten containing foods than when I dont. I never was able to put things together until recently, and these boards have been very helpful. Thinking back, after all these years of being sick, I am shocked why no doctor never even mentioned gluten sensitivity. I can remember even back 8 years ago, when I was hospitilized for an accident, that I had to keep telling the docs and nurses that would bring me food, that I cant eat wheat. Thinking back, I told all my GI specialists as well, because they would encourage to start eating "healthy" and to eat more whole grains breads, whole grain pastas..take Metamucil, etc. But, I would try that, I just got sicker. So, I definitly know now, that its not all in my head. And, Im just going to have to take matters into my own hands, and if its something as simple as not eating gluten, than thats what I will have to do!! cant wait to see how soon I hopefully will feel better. The only thing that sucks now, is since I already paid for the Biocard test, Im going to continue to eat "death food". But, no matter what the results, when Im done, I am going gluten free!! I guess, the tests, to be honest, if it does show positive, it can help me to urge my families for support, and, I really now my daughters need to be checked as well. Sorry for the long post... mainly just wanted to say that Im just going to go gluten free, and see how I feel. Wish me luck!! :)

what is the biocard test? you perform a blood test at home or something? sorry, i've just never heard of it and i was curious :)

i'm sorry you aren't feeling well with all the gluten - at least now you know, right? sometimes, when i first stopped eating gluten, i would think that maybe i was just being crazy so i would eat bread or something. then, of course, i'd be sick again and i'd think "oh, not crazy."

good luck with the testing - i hope everything turns out well for you in the end!

Hi ECD! the Biocard test kit, is an at home test. I stumbled upon it while googling celiac tests. Turns out, its highly recommended in Canada. In fact, if you find their website, ( I cant remember the link off hand), but Im sure you can find it easily by googling Biocard celiac test, anyway, it seems very reliable. They have news clips and stuff about it, on the website. I had to find a company that will send me the test directly, because Canada isnt allowed to ship it here to the US for some reason (uh oh!) so, hopefully, Im not being stooped by the company I am getting it from. If it turns out legit, I will let you know how I got it, if your interested! I wasnt expensive, total including the shipping was only $42, and they accepted paypal. I checked on the shipping yesterday from the company, and they said it usually takes 10 days to get to the US, and it was shipped on 9-08-08, so I hope I get it anyday!! regardless, I am so sick today, cant leave the house if you know what I mean! I am soo gonna stop gluten, Im just going to give myself a few more days, and hopefully that test will come. If you google the Biocard celiac test, let me know what you think, if you want. Thanks!!!

She used to take supplements, but her abdominal pain is so debilitating that she hasn't been able to continue.  Her primary care team has been suggesting liquid supplements rather than pill form to help.  They just drew a lot of blood Friday and we are slowly getting all that work back.  I will definitely check into thiamine!  Thanks!

They have not done that yet.   We are looking at some other treatments to help. And you are correct.  The tickborne illness has been a wild ride.  Our whole family has been battling different tickborne illnesses.  Its expensive and exhausting.

I cannot tolerate it at all - triggers burning and nausea, ditto aspirin.  Here in the UK I take Paracetamol.

For back pain, I take a combination of Cobalamine B12, Pyridoxine B 6, and Thiamine B 1 (in the form Benfotiamine), which have an analgesic effect.  These three B vitamins together work way better than those over the counter pain relievers.  Theses are water soluble B vitamins that are easily excreted via the kidneys if not needed.  Thiamine will also help the nausea. @stephaniekl, welcome to the forum, Is your daughter taking any nutritional supplements?   Weight loss and failure to thrive are two symptoms of thiamine insufficiency.  Thiamine deficiency symptoms are not recognized as such by doctors.   I experienced similar symptoms when I became malnourished.  Thiamine deficiency symptoms can become worse quickly, and can affect one emotionally and mentally.  Although blood tests for thiamine aren't accurate, do have your daughter checked for nutritional deficiencies.  Thiamine B 1 works with the other B vitamins and magnesium.  Thiamine and Niacin B 3 help improve Gerd.  All the B vitamins are frequently low due to malabsorption.  Vitamin D will help calm the immune system.  Thiamine helps the immune system fight off viruses like those tick borne illnesses.   Thiamine Mononitrate, which is in many vitamin supplements, is not bioavailable.  I was taking a multivitamin containing thiamine mononitrate and still became deficient in thiamine. Thiamine in the form Benfotiamine has been shown to promote intestinal healing.  A form called TTFD (tetrahydrofurfuryl disulfide) is also excellent for correcting thiamine deficiency.  A combination of Thiamine, Cobalamine B12, and Pyridoxine B 6 has analgesic properties.  I take it for back pain.   Keep us posted on your progress!
