Ok so here's the thing I have found that everywhere I read about celiac and the foods to avoid Wheat glucose syrup is considered safe. Products that I have come across have stated gluten free on front then I read the back and it says in the list of ingredients glucose syrup derived from wheat.

Is it safe to eat these products. I have not been formally diagnosed I went gluten free after losing 40 lbs really quickly and got better and started putting on weight when I got rid of gluten. Celiac in the family with 2 yr old daughter also displaying symptoms. Your thoughts please.

Sometimes a product which is derived from a gluten grain is so highly processed that no detectable gluten remains. Whether such a product is safe for a celiac to consume has been the subject of much debate. For most of us, this product would be fine, but some are extremely sensitive and may have a problem.

Microscopic quantities of gluten might be present, but it is unlikely that there is enough to make any difference, in my opinion. In Canada, this could not be labeled gluten-free--any gluten-grain (including oats) derived ingredient is prohibited in a food labeled gluten-free.

I see you are from Australia. Do you know what the parts per million limit is in Australia in order to be labeled gluten free? . . . Just trying to determine what the upper limit is.

OK . . . I immediately went googling to answer my own question :P

Perhaps you already know this but I'll share with everyone:

I will not use it. They can only test to 5ppm, no lower. I react to the tiniest amount, and do not trust this, nor barley grass, nor wheat grass.

Thank you both very much. I’m pretty familiar with the various tests, and my older two girls with official dxs have even participated in research on other tests as well. I just felt overwhelmed and shocked that these recent results (which I found pretty dang conclusive after having scott clean labs just six months ago) would still be considered inconclusive. Doc said we could biopsy in another six weeks because my daughter was actually way more upset than I anticipated about the idea of eating it for years before doing another biopsy. It doesn’t hurt her, but she’s afraid of how it may be hurting her in ways she can’t feel. She’s currently eating mini wheats for breakfast, a sandwich with lunch, and a side of pasta along with every dinner, so I’m hoping we’re meeting that 10g benchmark mentioned in that second article!

Have you tried a genetic test to look for Celiac genes?  No gluten challenge required.

Hello, @ElisaAllergiesgluten, Have you tried going on a low histamine Paleo diet like the Autoimmune Protocol diet?  A low histamine AIP diet would help your body rid itself of the extra histamine it's making in response to allergies.  Are you Celiac as well?   Since we need more thiamine when we're stressed, adding Benfotiamine, a form of Thiamine Vitamin B 1, can help the body calm down it's release of histamine.  Benfotiamine improves Sailors' asthma.

Don't skimp on the gluten daily while undergoing the gluten challenge!

So, I've been using a gluten free labeled toothpaste since being diagnosed with celiac. No big deal, the toothpaste seems to work. Question is, I just realized it contains hydrated silica.  Now, I've heard that silicon dioxide can cause issues in some people with celiac (was that ever confirmed though?), so to be safe, I cut it out of my diet entirely. But, as I understand it, hydrated silica is related to silicon dioxide. Is that something to worry about, or is the hydrated form not known to cause issues like the silicon dioxide form?  I've never seen it in food, but nearly every toothpaste I look at contains hydrated silica?  Issue or not?  Any scientific research (Not opinion pieces, not health bloggers, you get my gist), but actual science, that says it's an issue? I have a hard time believing 99% of what I read on random internet searches.    Thanks so much, Renee.
