Gluten Free Alcohol

Hi I was diagnosed with Celiac about a year ago and was just wondering if anyone had some good gluten free drinks to suggest. I definately miss beer. I've been drinking mostly Vodka because I know its made from potatos. I was curious if anyone knew is rye whiskey is Gluten free. I've heard that the disstillation process takes out the gluten but I'm not sure if its 100% safe. Rye is pretty popular in Canada so it would be nice to have that as an option. Other than vodka and wine what are the best gluten free alcoholic beverages.

So as I take baby steps out, I'm drinking:

plain absolute

absolute and kahlua (black russian)

Redbridge (yum! and I don't usually care for beer) Kind of darker and lagery) New Grist is more like a Bud or other mass marketed beer and Bards tale is somewhere in between.

Kahulah and cream if I can find a soy creamer.

I hope you find some more recommendations, because I'll be watching.

Oh, and when you go to a wedding and skip the meal, have not had any considerable amount of liquor in a year, and then fill up on black russians, you are more likely than normal to accidentally sip from your sister-in-law's glass-o-gluten. Avoid that error.

I"m not a fan of redbridge too much b/c of the metallic aftertaste, but if you can find Green's beers anywhere I highly suggest them!!! It doesnt have an aftertaste and even my gluten eating friends like it. It isn't JUST LIKE the beer you always had, it has a sweetness to it. One of my friends said its like a mixture of wine and beer. I've tried the triple blonde and amber ale's - both really good. just dont expect REAL beer. But it is closest to the real thing.

My non-Celiac husband has tasted Green's beer and he loves them! It is from a Belgian micro-brewery and there are 2 different types. One is a lighter type ale and the other is more of a darker lager. We paid $6.50 for a pint. Seems pricey but it has twice the alcohol content of American beers so one beer is more like drinking 2! I had to drive home......

We paid $6.50 for a pint. Seems pricey but it has twice the alcohol content of American beers so one beer is more like drinking 2! I had to drive home......

yeah, its definitly worth the price though! and is about the same as two beers 8.5 %alc! I payed $5.40 at wegmans here in NY
