E.L.F. Cosmetics

This is a responce I got from E.L.F. cosmetics. They have very cheap products (no, they are not high quality, but a few things I like or I buy things I only use a few times for special occassions)

Email responce from them on 11/20/09:

Thank you for your interest in e.l.f. Cosmetics. Our products do not contain gluten or beeswax. Please be aware, however, that we cannot guarantee that the machinery used to process our products are completely gluten free.

Sincerely,

the e.l.f. team

BOUNCE:::

I was not completely pleased with this responce. Yes, it is great to know they don't contain gluten but I felt like they were putting me down for caring about completely elliminating gluten from my life.

Jessie thank you for contacting Bounce.

I can only imagine how frustrating it can be to find that you have allergies to products containing Gluten, especially since it's found in so many of the items we use everyday. You'll be happy to know that none of our fabric or home care products including Bounce contain gluten.

Usually eating gluten is the cause of the rash - not products applied to the skin. Because fabric sheets and other home care products aren't ingested they are not seen as a cause of the symptoms of Celiac Disease.

We know Celiac is a serious disease, and since gluten sensitivity can vary from person to person you might consider using our Bounce Free dryer sheets, they

That reply from Bounce was pretty condescending, IMHO

I e-mailed over 25 companies just now... so I should be getting some responces this week.

which means my eyeliner is not gluten free :/ that could be why my eyes have been itchy on and off...

I just feel like there should be a longer list from them, but I guess I won't chance it.

I am loving the Bounce letter..LOL <_<

Seriously they start with the gluten allergy, then go to say Celiac Disease..."Hello, those are different!" Then to suggest that gluten on the skin isn't an issue, what about those with DH? Can't they have a skin reaction? Maybe I am wrong here, but common! Don't try to sound educated in something you

Herbal Essences is out.

Thank you for contacting Herbal Essences.

Gluten is a protein found in wheat, rye, and barley. Although it is typically not added directly to our products, it may be present in fragrances. Due to the difficulty of tracing the source ingredients for the variety of fragrances used in manufacturing our products, we can not provide specific levels of gluten content for any of our fragrance blends.

Be aware that even products labeled "unscented" will still contain a masking scent, therefore they may potentially contain gluten.

We are sorry we could not be more helpful at this time.

...even products labeled "unscented" will still contain a masking scent, therefore they may potentially contain gluten.

You want to look for "fragrance free" rather than "unscented." Unscented may mean that there are multiple fragrances which net to no detectable scent. Fragrance free means nothing added for odor reasons--a fragrance free product may have a slight natural aroma, whereas the "unscented" version has an artificial scent to neutralize (mask) the natural aroma.

I understood.. It was just comical and a bit of an oxymoron.

Overall, everything we use is highly purified and refined. Our powders have been subjected to rigorous sensitivity and non-comedogenicity tests, and have produced excellent results on these. However, it is always possible for any given person to develop a sensitivity to anything at any time. Where sensitivity is a concern, we always recommend consulting with your physician and patch testing before purchase and use of the products.

For best results, we do recommend in-person shopping whenever possible, because it allows you to try out the products and get more personalized service. For a list of retailers in your area, please check out our "Where to Buy" page at Open Original Shared Link.

Yes, I, too, have osteoporosis from years of malabsorption, too.  Thiamine and magnesium are what keep the calcium in place in the bones.  If one is low in magnesium, boron, selenium, zinc, copper, and other trace minerals, ones bone heath can suffer.  We need more than just calcium and Vitamin D for strong bones.  Riboflavin B 2, Folate B 9 and Pyridoxine B 6 also contribute to bone formation and strength.   Have you had your thyroid checked?  The thyroid is important to bone health as well.  The thyroid uses lots of thiamine, so a poorly functioning thyroid will affect bone heath.

That sounds so very likely in my case! I will absolutely ask my doctor on my next bone check coming up in March... Thanks a lot!
    • trents
Calcium levels as measured in the blood can be quite deceiving as the body will rob calcium from the bones to meet demands for it by other bodily functions. Also, supplementing with calcium can be counterproductive as it tends to raise gut pH and decrease absorption. More often than not, the problem is poor absorption to begin with rather than deficiency of intake amounts in the diet. Calcium needs an acidic environment to be absorbed. This is why so many people on PPIs develop osteoporosis. The PPIs raise gut pH. And some people have high gut PH for other reasons. Low pH equates to a more acidic environment whereas high pH equates to a more basic (less acidic) environment.

Kind thanks for all this valuable information! Since my Folate was/is low and also my Calcium, there IS a chance I am low in B vitamins... My doctor only measured the first two, oh and Zinc as I has twisted her arm and guess what, that was mega low too. So who knows, until I get myself tested properly, what else I am deficient in... I did a hair mineral test recently and it said to avoid All sources of Calcium. But this is confusing for me as my Ca is so low and I have osteoporosis because of this. It is my Adjusted Ca that is on the higher side and shouldn't be. So am not sure why the mineral test showed high Ca (well, it was medium in the test but relative to my lowish Magnesium, also via hair sample, it was high I was told). But anyway, thanks again for the VitB download, I will look into this most certainly!

Hello good afternoon, I was wondering if anyone has ever brought their anti-allergy pills? I have been wanting to use their Cetirizine HCI 10mg. They are called HealthA2Z and distributed by Allegiant Health.I’m also Asthmatic and these allergies are terrible for me but I also want to be sure they don’t have any sort of gluten compound.    I have tried calling them but to no avail. Has anyone ever used them? If so, did you had any problems or no problems at all?    thank you
