I was wondering if anybody knows anything about diet pills? i am going away in 2 months B) and would like to lose a few pounds, but would diet pills further damage my intestine as i am healing? or will it be okay?? I mean I know they aren't good for you to begin with, but will they cause any further damage?

Personally I wouldn't chance it. Can you modify your eating instead? Perhaps choose more more veggies and fruits and go easy on any high calorie foods? I keep my weight under control by eating one main meal and snacks of fresh fruit or veggie sticks and I make sure i drink a full glass of water before I eat. I also on occasion will fast for a day. Might not work for everyone but it works for me.

I may only eat one 'meal' a day but I do graze a lot for the rest of the day. A piece of fruit and some nuts or a salad, veggie sticks or pretzels, a bowl of cereal etc. I guess I have had so many years of negative effects from food that I am kind of the opposite of Pavlov's dog. For years food made me so sick that I couldn't eat until I was home for the day and close to the bathroom. So dinner would be all I would eat. I've also had years of poverty where food was not readily available so it is kind of a learned behavior. I'm one of those people who eat to live not live to eat as I never really feel hungry. It has it's good side and it's bad but I have learned to live with it.

I hope you do find something that works for you.

if you're newly gluten free, you may lose weight naturally, just by not being poisoned every day.

Just eat whole natural foods, not manufactured or packaged foods. Eat regularly, don't starve yourself, and get a proper balance of nutrients. Drink plenty of clear plain water as well. This will get rid of a few pounds of water weight, plus help to flush out your system.

There is a product called Spirulina at the health food store. It is 100% sea algae. It is high in protein and several other vitamins and chlorophyll. It is high in the amino acid Tyrosine which is a natural appetite suppressant. Taking 20 tablets of spirulina not only makes you feel full, but it is also very nutritious and very low calorie. Taking a large handful is about 20 calories.

It is a great way to diet naturally. And even better it doesn't have any strange side effects!

except possibly starvation! :o

Actually that could be very dangerous. Spirulina contains large amounts of Vitamin A. Even taking 5 or 6 tabs would be overkill but taking a handful could be really bad especially if done over time.

VITAMIN A. Vitamin A toxicity can occur with long-term consumption of 20 mg of retinol or more per day. The symptoms of vitamin A overdosing include accumulation of water in the brain (hydrocephalus), vomiting, tiredness, constipation, bone pain, and severe headaches. The skin may acquire a rough and dry appearance, with hair loss and brittle nails. Vitamin A toxicity is a special issue during pregnancy. Expectant mothers who take 10 mg vitamin A or more on a daily basis may have an infant with birth defects. These birth defects include abnormalities of the face, nervous system, heart, and thymus gland. It is possible to take in toxic levels of vitamin A by eating large quantities of certain foods. For example, about 30 grams of beef liver, 500 grams of eggs, or 2,500 grams of mackerel would supply 10 mg of retinol.

My advice would be to jump start a healthy weight loss by cutting out sugar and anything made with white flour (rice flour, etc). Focus on lean protein, veggies, and a little fruit. Lots of water.

If you want faster results for a special occasion, by strict with it--just protein, salads, and veggies for a few days. Healthier for you than pills in my opinion. ;)

I just finished a 10 day raw food diet. I was doing it for health and expected to lose about 2-3 pounds. Instead I lost 8. If you really want to lose weight, Google "Raw Food Bootcamp." It is a 1 month raw food diet.

Wow you guys are awesome! Thx so much for all the great answers! I really appreciate it. :D

Welcome @JoJo0611. That is a valid question.  Unfortunately the short answer is slim to none.  Be proactive, when the diagnosis process is completed, start GFD.  Remember also that the western diet is deficient in many nutrients that governments require fortification.  Read the side of a breakfast cereal box. Anti-tTG antibodies has superseded older serological tests It has a strong sensitivity (99%) and specificity (>90%) for identifying celiac disease. A list of symptoms linked to Celiac is below.  No one seems to be tracking it, but I suspect that those with elevated ttg, but not diagnosed with Celiac Disease, are diagnosed with celiac disease many years later or just die, misdiagnosed.  Wheat has a very significant role in our economy and society.  And it is addictive.  Anti-tTG antibodies can be elevated without gluten intake in cases of other autoimmune diseases, certain infections, and inflammatory conditions like inflammatory bowel disease. Transient increases have been observed during infections such as Epstein-Barr virus. Some autoimmune disorders including hepatitis and biliary cirrhosis, gall bladder disease. Then, at 65 they are told you have Ciliac Disease. Milk protein has been connected to elevated levels.   Except for Ireland and New Zealand where almost all dairy cows are grass fed, commercial diaries feed cows TMR Total Mixed Rations which include hay, silage, grains and concentrate, protein supplements, vitamins and minerals, byproducts and feed additives. Up to 80% of their diet is food that cannot be eaten by humans. Byproducts of cotton seeds, citrus pulp, brewer’s grains (wheat and barley, rye, malt, candy waste, bakery waste. The wheat, barley and rye become molecules in the milk protein and can trigger tTg Iga in persons suseptible to Celiac. I can drink Grass fed milk, it tastes better, like the milk the milkman delivered in the 50's.  If I drink commercial or Organic milk at bedtime I wake with indigestion.

I strongly recommend 2 dedicated gluten free (gluten-free) restaurants in my area (East Bay of San Francisco Bay Area) (2025) -- Life is Sweet Bakery and Café in Danville. I've been a few times with friends and tried multiple entrees and salads. All very good and worth having again. I've also tried a number of their bakery goods. All extremely good (not just "good for gluten-free"). https://lifeissweetbakeryandcafe.com/ -- Kitara Kitchen in Albany (they have additional locations). I've been once and had the "Buritto Bowl". Six individual items plus a sauce. Outstanding. Not just "for gluten-free", but outstanding in its own right. Vibrant flavors, great textures. I can't wait to go back. https://www.kitava.com/location/kitava-albany/

I'm 67 and have been celiac for 17yrs. I had cataract surgery and they put a gluten lens in my eye. Through a lot of research, I found out about MMA acrylic...it contains gluten. It took 6 months for me to find a DR that would remove it and replace it with a gluten-free lens . I have lost some vision in that eye because of it . I also go to a prosthodontist instead of a regular dentist because they are specialized. He has made me a night guard and a few retainers with no issues... where my regular dentist didn't care. I have really bad reactions to gluten and I'm extremely sensitive, even to CC. I have done so much research on gluten-free issues because of these Drs that just don't care. Gluten is in almost everything shampoo, lotion, food, spices, acrylic, medication even communion wafers! All of my Drs know and believe me I remind them often.... welcome to my world!

If this applies geographically, in the U.K., physicians will often declare a diagnosis of celiac disease based on the TTG-IGA antibody blood test alone if the score is 10x normal or greater, which your score is. There is very little chance the endoscopy/biopsy will contradict the antibody blood test.
