How Tall Are U?

I read, somewhere, that celiac disease stunts your growth. I know the "test" they do when you are a kid ~ taking your height and x 3 = adult height ~ Well, I was "suppose" to be 5'8". I am only 5'5". I am just curious if celiac does effect growth, and has anyone else fallen short of their expected height. Just curious!!

Yes in cases where there is malnutrition and where you do not absorb vitamins and nutrients properly then it will effect your height. I stopped growing around the time I got symptoms. Since getting off of gluten I have grown about an inch or so I guess. Not that I am supposed to be tall...alot of people on my moms side are short so that could also affect it. I'm 5'3 now.

i'm 5'8

i've been on the gluten-free diet for 2 years and since then have grown maybe five inches.

Hmmm... I went gluten-free so late in life I doubt that, at 42, I will grow!! Nice to know that going gluten-free helps "kick" that part of your body back into gear!!

5' 4'-- not so tall. although, in fifth grade i was one of the tallest girls in my grade and won the high jump contest !! that quickly changed and now i am the shortest amoung my friends. i can't remember what average height is for a girl, it might be 5' 4"...

There are two celiac symptoms that I have seemed to have escaped from:

Infertility:

I have four children, including twins!!!

and

Height:

I am 5'9".

I seem to have made up for it in other symptoms though!!!!

Currently 5'4"...was 5'0" at diagnosis last year...and I grew only about 2 inches from celiac, then another 2 after sorting out the malrotation (see sig.)...being 14, I have a couple years to grow another....8 inches, lol

My family was genetic tested at Children's hospital in Detroit in the early 70's. My growth gene and my brother's were a match. He grew to 6'4". I pretty much stopped growing in fourth grade and I am 5'1".

Female hormones usually account for @ 5" shorter than males.

WOW! That is quite the difference!! If you go by growth... I would say my youngest son definitely does NOT have celiac disease... he is 6'5"!!

I'm 5'3". My mom is 5'2", but all her siblings are much taller. Her sisters are/were around 5'9"-10".

I am 5'0", but then again my mom's family is all about the same height. I was never going to get much taller than this.

Well, this one didn't get me either. But I didn't have any symptoms until after I stopped growing anyways. I am 5'10"

By my reckoning, I've had Celiac my whole life. In Jr. High, I was 4'11" and 63 lbs.

The only girl shorter than me was a midget, and that's really saying something since it was a huge school in Los Angeles! I finally finished growing two years after graduating High School, stopping at 5'8 1/4". Now, I'm taller than the people who as kids, used to tease me about being so short! Other than the teasing, though,I never minded being short.

I'm 5'4" - I think I stopped growing when I was about 16. (Is that normal?) I'm taller than my mom, so I don't know if it has affected me or not!

I wish I was taller though! Do you think it's not too late?

I've heard 5'4" is the average for women. I think I am still growing though...so 5'3" for now.

I don't mind being short though..

I'm 5' 1 1/2" but I like to say I'm 5' 2" !! I'm the shortest one in my family, but I also remember being one of the tallest girls in my class in 5th grade. I haven't grown any since then! My sister is 5' 7" hmmmmmm

I am 5' 9" about average. My brother was always real short until he turned 20 and then he grew to 6' 6" in a very short period of time. I know other men that were really short and then in their early 20's really grew.

Jenn had stopped growing when she was diagnosed. She was also not maturing. Since going gluten-free, she has grown up and matured significantly. It was like going from child to instant adult in physical maturity.

My mom was 4'11", and swore up and down that she was 5', since anything less than 5' is legally a midget! I am 5'1", and have been since I was 16. My kids have all grown taller than me now! Most everyone on my mom's side is shorter than average, so it could be genetic, but that is where the celiac is from, so it could also be that!

I believe, Kaiti, that the average height for a woman is 5'5". Or at least that is what it use to be!! I am not sure now, but it seems that women are just taller and taller.

We are a lot of shorties, though, aren't we?? I like being 5'5"... because I can look up to the men in my life!!

I'm 5'4". My family always said I would be taller than my sister, but she is 5'5" or 5'6". Course I also wore size 2 shoes in 6th grade, unaware that my feet were trying to grow. When they refit me, I was a size 7 and had all deformed feet. I wish I could go back and change that - maybe I would have a few more inches! I don't mind being short that much, it's just hard to find pants that fit. 5'4" is the cuttoff for petite clothes - Petite pants are too short and the others are too long!

I'm 5'10". I wanted to be 6' - odd goal... My brother who has similar health issues is 6'4". My dad, who I suspect gave me the neurological gene is 6'5". My mom, who would have given me the stomach gene is 5'8". We are all pretty tall.
