Lay's Wavy Potato Chips

Has anyone had trouble with Lay's Wavy potato chips? I couldn't find Stax at the store and got a bag of the plain chips. All that's on the label is potatoes, oil, and salt. I've had a rumbling stomach and a little D out of nowhere and realized I've eaten a serving of them every day since I bought them a few days back. I'm not eating anything else new or different. Any one else eat these and get CC'd?

Lay's does not have a dedicated plant. Are you supersensitive? I am not saying for sure that is what has got you but for me eating Lay's products is a crap shoot. If you want to see if that was what it was close up the bag and leave it until your feeling better then try them again and see if the same thing happens. I should note that most of us eat Lay's plain chips without an issue.

Thanks. I honestly don't know about super-sensitive. Usually I can eat foods most other people on the board can eat, so it's good to know there aren't usually issues with normal Lay's. My symptoms were so general yesterday for all I know it could just as easily be a mild GI virus as gluten CC. I'm not getting any strong "gluten" symptoms like canker sores. Your idea of setting the chips aside and trying again later makes perfect sense!

Lays chips were always hit or miss for me. I avoid them now--but miss the Natural Thick Cut :(:)

Feeling crummier today. I'm going with GI virus.

Oats naturally contain a protein called avenin, which is similar to the gluten proteins found in wheat, barley, and rye. While avenin is generally considered safe for most people with celiac disease, some individuals, around 5-10% of celiacs, may also have sensitivity to avenin, leading to symptoms similar to gluten exposure. You may fall into this category, and eliminating them is the best way to figure this out. Some people substitute gluten-free quinoa flakes for oats if they want a hot cereal substitute. If you are interested in summaries of scientific publications on the topic of oats and celiac disease, we have an entire category dedicated to it which is here: https://www.celiac.com/celiac-disease/oats-and-celiac-disease-are-they-gluten-free/
