Gluten In My Fat?

Good Morning! This is driving me nuts so I hope someone can help me out. It seems like every time I start to lose weight I get a gluten reaction.

If I go low carb it's the third day of the diet. If I go low calorie I start itching three hours or so after a meal. Yesterday I even got a rash on my arm. I hadn't eaten in about 4 hours, I was working hard and just didn't have time to stop.

Anyhow, is gluten stored in our fat like other toxins? Has anyone else noticed this stupid reaction to dieting?

I don't think the gluten is stored in the fat. I don't know about the antibodies though. My first question would be what are you eating? Have you simply decreased food and increased activity or are you using meal replacements and artificial sugars?

Many low carb items have soy, are you by any chance sensitive to soy? Some of us will also be sensitive to artificial sugars and some will even have issues with natural sugar replacements. Stevia for example is related to ragweed and folks that are allergic to ragweed may react adversely to that.

I've been drinking diet soda or coffee with instant breakfast. And a normal meat and veggie dinner with smaller portions than usual. Keeping myself under 1400 calories and working 10hr days, on my feet, no sitting down. So yes, I have had artificial sweeteners. Could be a small amount of cc in the instant breakfast though nobody else in the house is reacting to it. When I do the low carb thing it's just eggs, meat, greens and strawberries and I still get glutened. I kept thinking it was seasoning or something but nobody else in the house is reacting. Just me and just the itching no tummy troubles. I have no idea where to go from here, I'm 40lbs over weight. My feet are tired of carrying this butt around!

Your instant breakfast, is that Carnation Instant breakfast. If it is there are different flavors that have wheat or barely in them. I can't quite remember. I can't use it because i'm dairy free.

I was going to say the same thing. I eliminated all carbs for a month for my elimination diet and I read a lot on low carb forums to get ideas for what to eat. Your body will be going through carb withdrawal for the first week or two. Once you get over the two week hump most people start feeling better. They call this the "induction flu" on the low carb boards. It could easily be confused with a glutening if your symptoms of glutening are primarily brain fog and fatigue.

      She’s eating mostly gluten as far as I know. Think her GP is trying to get her seen fairly quickly

      Be sure to have her continue eating gluten before the biopsy. Reducing gluten now could lead to healing and false negative results.

      Allegra is an antihistamine.  Histamine is released by the body as part of the autoimmune and immune responses, so an antihistamine would be helpful.  Following the low histamine version of the AIP diet is helpful as well because there's also histamine in foods.  Sometimes our body has trouble getting rid of the histamine it makes and the histamine from our food.  Sometimes the mast cells that make and release histamine get touchy and release histamine at the slightest provocation.  Thiamine helps mast cells not to release histamine so readily.  Look into Mast Cell Activation Syndrome.  SIBO, small intestinal bacterial overgrowth, can also cause high histamine levels.  Following the low histamine AIP diet will starve out the bad SIBO bacteria that feed on carbohydrates we eat.  We don't want to take antibiotics because they kill off both the good and bad bacteria.  We don't want to take probiotics yet because the SIBO bacteria will outnumber them.   The AIP diet will allow the good bacteria to flourish.   Some have Candida infections as well as SIBO.   Lowering histamine levels is important because high histamine levels for a long time can lead to worsening health problems like Crohn's and colitis and other health problems.

      Oh I have 2 dogs. And I just looked up the ingredients in their food and it does contain barley as a main ingredient. Maybe some other things too that aren't helpful but barley just caught my eye on a quick look.  And yes I spend lots of time with them, they're always cuddled up on me. I even have wondered before if I was allergic to them and I take Allegra at night out of some thought that maybe I was allergic to them (but I've never confirmed that).  Wow. This is very interesting. I could try putting them out on some grain-free food for a month and see if that helps. Thanks for the tip!
