I just found out from my doctor that I might have a mild form celiac disease but I still have to see a gastroenterologist ASAP. I just graduated from college and really enjoy to have a couple beers after work and on the weekends when out with friends. I know it probably depends on each individual person and how much gluten a particular beer contains but does anyone know if you can have 2 or 3 beers, at least 5% alcohol by volume, each night and still be able to manage the symptoms of celiac.

Thanks!

Not unless they are gluten free beers, of which there are several including Redbridge.

Tolerances for traces of gluten varies among celiacs, but beer has WAY too much gluten for anyone with celiac disease. Barley is every bit as poisonous to your body as wheat. Malt liquor and the malt alcohol in some coolers is also a problem. As Mushroom says, there is gluten-free beer on the market now including Redbridge and Green's. You can also have wine, hard cider, or distilled spirits.

Also, "mild" celiac is a misnomer. Celiac disease is progressive as long as you keep eating even small amounts of gluten.

Even if you can ingest gluten now without feeling any effects, you'll be setting yourself up for MAJOR issues in your future. A few beers now could lead to all kinds of nutritional deficiencies, infertility, or malignant cancers.

Better to just stick with wine. Or tequila.

This is really important. You risk a lot by consuming even small amounts. How much you say? Well read my signature and a few others. :D

Margaritas can be festive and celiac friendly...my friends like having me at their house parties because my husband designates himself margarita mixer(to insure things stay gluten-free) and he makes some very good margaritas...

Your response on this matter is what I expect. You’ve had a similar episode years ago, but this one is lasting longer!

I'd like to clarify: Is the pain you describe in the area just below your chest constant, or does it only appear when you start moving?
