Anyone Know Where To Buy Udi's In Canada?

I just trekked it over to Whole Foods only to be told that they've never even heard of Udi's.

I was so annoyed that I emailed them and pleaded with them to start carrying Udi's products. I was emailed back by someone at WF and she said because of french/english labelling requirements in Canada, the fact that the bread is fresh (short shelf life), and the fact that she doesn't know of anyone who's distributing it here, it's unlikely that they'll start carrying it :angry: .

So SICK of the crappy selection of gluten free foods we have here in Canda. We have NOTHING. Don't they realize we need gluten free choices here too?

Sorry....ranting....just annoyed because I was really excited about Udi's bread :(

Actually, gluten-free food makers located here in Canada include El Peto, Glutino, Kinnikinnick, and Tinkyada. Depending on where you are, it may be difficult to find a store that carries them.

Thanks Peter! I have tonnes of Kinnikinnick (sp?) products and absolutely love them but I was stoked to try Udi's bread because of all the raving reviews. My son is so picky and I'm yet to find a gluten free bread that he'll eat. It'd be nice if our selection in Canada was expanded :D

Hi there;

Not sure if you are in Vancouver or Toronto...if in Vancouver product will be available at Whole Foods & Capers Markets in approx 2 weeks (mid to end of August). It is also be available at Nature's Fare in Langley now and Save-On-Foods by the first week of September.

Nature's Fair!!! We have one in Kamloops too! If not the Whole Foods is in Kelowna, still fairly close. I'll be SO excited if they finally carry a good bread to have sandwiches on.

Hi here;

I'm not sure if you are in Vancouver or Toronto....if Vancouver Whole Foods Cambie and West Vancouver and Capers Markets will have UDI's by the 3rd week of August and Save-On-Foods bakery department will have by the 1st week of September. Nature's Fare in Langley should have product now.

The Whole Foods in Penticton will be a little while longer. I suspect by the first week of September. All Natures Fare stores will be carrying Udi's Breads to start and hopefully the muffins, pizza crusts and bagels as well. We are trying to get Udi's into the Ontario market as quickly as possible but it will not happen as fast as the West Coast. Whole Foods Ontario - 2 locations - Oakville and Toronto want to carry the product and we are trying to get it to this market as quickly as possible. Look for it in natural stores and then supermarkets next. Probably in the next 2 months...end of Sept...beginning October, for the Ontario market.

You can buy Udi's product in Toronto.Summerhill Market (446 Summerhill Ave.)is selling Udi's bread ,muffins,bagels,pizza crust.I also buy there King Arthur gluten free mixes and frozen Against the grain Baguette.They have very nice gluten free selection, a lot product You will not find in another store in Ontario.

I just bought some Udi's bread at Save-On Foods in the Edmonton, AB area. I'm impressed...it's very good! I'm trying the lemon streusel muffins next. ;-)

I'm so excited that Save-On now carries Udi's bread! When I was in Seattle, I was able to experience it fresh, and recently bought a few packages (not cheap at $6.29 CAN each) from the frozen section in Save-On-Foods. To avoid drying it out, I leave the whole package in the fridge instead of defrosting every morning.

The Udi's white bread reminds me exactly of the old Italiano (gluten!) bread I used to eat, when toasted.

The thing I like best is that it doesn't taste sweet! Like a lot of gluten free breads I try..

I don't know all the breads you've tried but I have 4 children who are all gluten free and all 4 of them really like the Food for Life Brown Rice Bread, even the 2 picky kids! (I can't use Udi's because 2 of them are also egg-free). I have toasted it and used it for sandwiches in their school lunches. I was afraid it would be hard or yucky by the time they ate it, but they all like it!

Sadie, if you're still around, I've seen Udi's at Pepper's in Cadboro Bay and at Planet Organic at Quadra and Mackenzie.

Hello, I'm also a mom to three!

Udi's bagels and breads are now at the 41st and Dunbar IGA in Vancouver, BC.

Also at WHOLE FOODS on FOurth Avenue (and slightly better priced there).

There is Udi's in the GTA! Portions in Guelph now carries it. They have 2 types of bread, muffins, bagels, and pizza crusts! They also carry tons of other gluten-free stuff, including their own fresh baking and prepared frozen meals. They have lots of Shar stuff too, which I love. So check out portions, worth the drive to Guelph for Udi's alone, plus all their other great stuff!

The Natural Food Pantry in Ottawa has the BEST gluten free bagels I have ever tasted. They tasted like REAL bread.

Nut'n Gluten in Vaughan for the GTA folks supposedly has amazing bread too.

I have tried the Udi's products but have to say that O'Doughs has a much better line up of breads and other goodies. Check out their website www.odoughs.com They have a great store locator and their stuff is very well priced. My favorites are the Flax Pizza Kit, Flax Loaf and the Banana Chocolate Chip Cake. I dare you all to try them. YOU WILL NEVER GO BACK TO ANY OTHER BRAND.. I promise :)

I'm new to this forum and about a year into gluten free. I had a friend (also gluten free) who came to visit and brought Udi's bread, bagels and muffins. It was the first time I had ever tasted gluten free bread or bagels that didn't taste like cardboard and sawdust!! I'm in the Kitchener area and don't drive but would love to find a local place that carries Udi's.

The Calgary Gluten Free store is now carrying UDI's.

Glad to hear they are now carrying it.

The packaging has both French and English on it. Not sure if that is something they had to do specially to send stuff to Canada.

We have had Udi's products available to us in little Regina, SK for quite some time now. I believe it is now available in a dozen stores in our city. Just tell the Calgary stores that if little Regina can be accomodating, they should be able to manage as well.

      This is FANTASTIC--especially that they are recognising barley and (potentially) oats as sources of gluten/contamination! Now if only we can get labeling guidelines to clarify "spices" and "natural flavors" for those of us with other severe allergies.

      What are your daily meals? Guilty pleasure snacks? Protein bars? I feel when looking for gluten free foods they are filled with sugar cholesterol. Looking for healthy gluten-free protein bars. Something to fill since sometimes I feel like not to eat anything. Especially if on vacation and unsure of cross contamination I figure go with a salad and protein...

      Unfortunately, there is presently no test for NCGS. Celiac disease must first be ruled out. NCGS is thought to be much more common than celiac disease. We know that celiac disease is an autoimmune disorder but the mechanism of NCGS is less clear. Both call for an elimination of gluten from the diet.

      My journey is it gluten or fiber?

      Thanks bumped it up and now take all 3 vitamins 2 capsules each with the super b complex at breakfast. I will give it some time to see if I notice a difference. I am going to track my eating daily diary on a myfitness pal app to see if the "claimed" gluten free foods bother me or not.

      Thanks for your reply Trents…most appreciated.  I am unfamiliar with celiac labs terminology so I wanted to know if the presence of HLA variants (DA:101, DA:105, DQB1:0301 and DQB1:0501) that the labs detected had any merit in predisposing one to be more sensitive to gluten/carbs than the general population?  Also,  I found what you said about NCGS very interesting and I appreciate you mentioning that.  I’ve worked hard to research and advocate for myself with my Hematologist and now with a new GI, since my bowel surgery and to maintain my Vitamin B12 health concurrent with keeping my levels of Iron in the optimal range. I’ve been tested for SIBO (do not have it), biopsy showed negative for HPylori, and have had Fecal studies done (nothing showed up) and I understand how a loss of a large amount of bowel could be highly impacting re: SIBO, malabsorption and motility issues. So I’ve managed pretty well diet and elimination-wise until just recently. That said, this new problem with extreme bloating, distention and upper girth, NAFLD just occured over the last 4 months so it is new for me and I thought celiac might be a possible issue. I’ll probably just continue on in this less gluten/carbs seem to be better for me and see how reintroducing certain foods go.  Thanks again.

      Please can anyone help. I was diagnosed on 23rd December and I am trying my best to get my head around all the things to look out for. I have read that yeast extract is not to be eaten by coeliacs. Why? And is this all yeast extract. Or is this information wrong. Thanks.
