HI,

HELP! MY DAUGHTER HAS BEEN gluten-free NOW 10 MONTHS OR SO AND SUDDENLY LAST WEEK SHE'S BEEN SICK AGAIN. I'VE BEEN PRETTY CAREFUL W/ALL THE PROCESSED PRODUCTS BUT MAYBE I SLIPPED UP. IS THIS A NORMAL THING AND IT'S BEEN ABOUT 1 1/2 WEEKS. HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO FEEL BETTER AGAIN. I'VE BEEN GIVING HER PEPTO BISMOL, IS THIS OK? I REALLY NEED ADVICE BEFORE I DECIDED TO CALL HER DR. THANKS.

LEE

Lee- Don't panic- it happens to everyone. this week I did a completely idiotic thing- I ate French fries at a brewery. I was assured they were wheat free but what I forgot to ask was if they were fried in the same frier as the other stuff (a lot of which is BEER battered!). Duh! I've been sick for the last four days because of it. It happens.

Just try to think back and see if you can pinpoint what it was. Did you try something new (food or body products?)? Did you eat out? Did she eat something when she wasn't with you (I don't know how old she is)? I find that keeping a food diary really helps.

As far as the Pepto Bismol goes, I don't know off the top of my head if it's gluten-free but if it is, then I would assume it's fine. I basically find that when I've been glutened, nothing helps but time. My cousin has Celiac's and it takes her a full three weeks to recover from a glutening.

Call her doctor anyway- it will help ease your mind. hang in there. Hope she feels better soon, Beverly

You mentioned in another thread about medicine making your daughter sick. Maybe that contains gluten or she is just having a reaction to it. Talk to your doctor because she should be taken off of it whether it contains gluten or not with the kind of reaction she is having.

Pepto Bismol is gluten free

Is there anything else other then the medicine that could be the culprit?

When I was getting sick often I started keeping a food journal and a log of every makeup and lotions I would put on and found out my lotion was the culprit...I mean just that little bit getting into the system can really screw things up.

Good luck

Just thought i would share that my son had diarrhea and vomiting for a week. It was a stomach virus, probably Rotavirus and kids get it. THe diarhea can last over two weeks. It did with my middle child. Anyway, I too was freaking out a few weeks ago, wondering what I had given him or what was going on. Thinking he had a new allergy or something. I also have accidentally given him gluten a few times. It is very frustrating when you are doing the best you can and they still get gluten. At this point I am not feeding him anything unless it says gluten free on it and we aren't eating out with him at all.

Hope she feels better soon.

If your child is under age 18, Pepto Bismol should not be given due to the risk of Reyes Syndrome. Ask you doctor for another alternative suggestion.

You may want to consider going back to a clear liquid diet for 24 hours, then move to bland, then gradually add back other foods. This is the standard initial treatment for diarrhea of any source. If your child is old enough to understand, talk with them and explain why you are doing this. It is easier if they are cooperating in the process.

Many years ago yes, after eating and going to bed, apparently my esophagus filled with food that my body rejected, the esophagus would lay against the Heart sack (pericardium?) and the heart would respond by becoming arrhythmic. That went away with the strict diet.

I was commenting on the report saying it did not mention migraines! Yes it does last paragraph says have not seen any evidence that Celiac cause migraines! I thought this was about truth?

It has been known for some years that celiacs suffer from migraines at a higher rate than the general populatation. It is an established symptom.

If black seed oil is working for his Afib, stick to it, but if not, I can say that ablation therapy is no big deal--my mother was out of the procedure in about 1 hour and went home that evening, and had zero negative effects from the treatment. PS - I would recommend that your husband get an Apple watch to monitor his Afib--there is an app and it will take readings 24/7 and give reports on how much of the time he's in it. Actual data like this should be what should guide his treatment.
