What To Expect When "glutened"?

Any ideas what I can expect and when? DS has been gluten-free for 2 months now. What should I look out for? He's already been up screaming 3 times in 4 hours. I am so sad and angry.

Also, we were suppose to get blood work done 6 months after going gluten-free. Do you think they'll want to push that back?

Thanks for all the help people! Really. I have tried to help others here and get nothing when I need something. I know nothing is owed to me but I am so over this board.

What are we supposed to say? Everyone's symptoms are totally different, especially once they've been gluten-free for a while and they last for different amounts of time. I hope he's doing better today.

No, they won't push bloodwork back for one glutening. It shouldn't make a difference in the antibodies four months from now.

Sounds like you are already getting answers to his reaction.

Hi Stephanie,

I sure hope your little one is feeling better after the bread ingestion. Accidental glutening is bound to happen; we just went through something similar this week but it was my fault. I didn't panic, just felt bad about it and realized these things are bound to happen from time to time. I think we have to remember that these little guys went for a looong period of time with gluten; so while getting gluten-ed accidentally is not an ideal scenario post diagnosis, the sky won't fall in. They just don't feel well at all, poor little guys. My daughter's celiac friend has violent reactions to accidental glutenings, and I think everyone's child is different. I was wondering the same thing about the 6 mo. follow up bloodwork, but decided I'll tell the GI when we are at that follow up appt. so they have the info. I would think one glutening wouldn't affect the entire 6 mos. that dramatically? In any case, on another note: Don't feel bad if sometimes it takes a few days for people to reply to your posts even w/multiple "views". I've had the experience that no one replies, but it is not personal, its more likely that they don't have the answer. We're all here to help one another out and sometimes you get more info. than others. You sounded upset and frightened about your child, I hope things are better now. Take care. Emily

Hello, I was very stick,  with flu like symptoms, but my virus panel came back negative and we couldn’t figure out what’s going on. The doctor then added a celiac panel.  Has anyone ever had such a dramatic change?  What are the odds this is true celiac I am going to have an endoscopy, but it’s expensive and I just feel like why can’t the labs be enough?

Eating out in general is full of risks, but this article may help:

This kind of question is always difficult to give a definitive answer to because of so many variables. One such variable is the sensitivity of the individual celiac to small amounts of gluten cross contamination. An amount that causes a reaction in one celiac many not in another, or at least not be discernable which, of course, does not exactly equate to being "safe".

I don't live in the US, but based on this thread, I wouldn't risk it:   https://www.reddit.com/r/glutenfree/comments/1n2ehw8/cracker_barrel/   This app is helpful: https://www.findmeglutenfree.com/

I see that Cracker Barrel restaurants have a gluten free menu (not all locations, but one confirmed that they do). I was wondering if it is safe for my 5 year old son with celiac disease?
