5 Days Into Diet And Sort Of Feeling Better!

I hope this is not a fluke or a "placebo effect."

Let me start by saying my symptoms aren't too bad, nothing diabilitating like some of you. I am also waiting for the official diagnosis.

Normally, I just have some D in the morning and my GI symptoms are done for the day. Today I had my first almost normal BM in months! (I know the weird things we can discuss here and get excited about.)

Today around 1:30 or so without even thinking, I decided it was time to dust my room and fold clothes. Suddenly I realized this is the time I crash every day. I didn't feel tired. I had energy and I finished the job I started. It also happened to be a rainy dreary day which usually doesn't help with that tired feeling. I'm really hoping this wasn't a fluke.

Ha, yes - kind of funny when there are tons of people here who will be cheering for regular poop, LOL. And we totally are!! :D

I hope that your symptoms are a result of your diet. Many here most definitely see an effect within days, so it's not unheard of!

I didn't have horrible symptoms prediagnosis, so I saw improvement within days! The good news...it just keeps getting better! :D

Skylark Collaborator

I had horrible symptoms and still did better in a week or two as far as GI. It's not in your head an I'm glad to hear you're feeling better!

With me, I think it's going to be a case of not realizing I was sick until I start feeling better. My "normal" isn't really normal.

Yay! I felt better within 3 days. Energy went back up, mood swings weren't as bad, skin looked better, hair wasn't falling out as much..oh yeah and I could go #2 without severe pain and major C! It is funny how we get so excited for other peoples BM!

Yup. My normal before was operating at about 65% good health. Now my normal is 100% if I'm really being good about my diet. I don't eat wheat/dairy/corn and mostly soy, but a lot of grains and processed foods slip into my diet, esp this busy time of year and I don't feel as energetic. But when my diet is pure I feel amazing all the time. You will just get better and better. I'm always a little excited for people at the beginning of this journey because I know they are going to keep feeling better and really the big health puzzle starts to come together for many people. Years of questions and doubts start to get answered.

Ox on the Roof Apprentice

TPT, we started our diets about the same time (Thanksgiving day for me!). I could tell a difference with the GI symptoms within two or three days. SO GLAD!!! For me, the biggest difference has been when I wake in the morning. I actually want to get out of bed! Well, except for this morning...my little one was up in the night with a stomach virus (EEWWW!).

And I have no diagnosis. Just a year and a half of pure misery and twelve puzzled doctors. They did a scope when I first got sick, but only biopsied my esophagus.

Chiana Apprentice

I waited until after Thanksgiving, too. Several of us have about the same start date, then. :) I'm surprised...I haven't had a nap yet this week! I had gotten to the point where I couldn't make it through a whole day awake.

People are very emotionally attached to their holiday rituals and holiday foods. My boyfriend's mother got unnecessarily upset when she forgot the cranberry sauce one year. :/ I can't imagine what it would be like to tell them that the only thing they make every year that I could eat would be the turkey, and maybe the cranberry sauce.

You've done an excellent job of meticulously tracking the rash's unpredictable behavior, from its symmetrical spread and stubborn scabbing to the potential triggers you've identified, like the asthma medication and dietary changes. It's particularly telling that the rash seems to flare with wheat consumption, even though your initial blood test was negative—as you've noted, being off wheat before a test can sometimes lead to a false negative, and your description of the other symptoms—joint pain, brain fog, stomach issues—is very compelling. The symmetry of the rash is a crucial detail that often points toward an internal cause, such as an autoimmune response or a systemic reaction, rather than just an external irritant like a plant or mites. I hope your doctor tomorrow takes the time to listen carefully to all of this evidence you've gathered and works with you to find some real answers and effective relief. Don't be discouraged if the rash fluctuates; your detailed history is the most valuable tool you have for getting an accurate diagnosis.

In this case the beer is excellent, but for those who are super sensitive it is likely better to go the full gluten-free beer route. Lakefront Brewery (another sponsor!) has good gluten-free beer made without any gluten ingredients.

Welcome to the forum, @catsrlife! Celiac disease can be diagnosed without committing to a full-blown "gluten challenge" if you get a skin biopsy done during an active outbreak of dermatitis herpetiformis, assuming that is what is causing the rash. There is no other known cause for dermatitis herpetiformis so it is definitive for celiac disease. You would need to find a dermatologist who is familiar with doing the biopsy correctly, however. The samples need to be taken next to the pustules, not on them . . . a mistake many dermatologists make when biopsying for dermatitis herpetiformis.

You state in an earlier post that you don't have celiac disease. Here in this post you state you will "be doing another test". What will this test be looking for? What kind of celiac disease testing have you had done? If you have used a Entero Labs it sounds like you have had stool testing done for celiac disease which is not widely accepted as a valid celiac disease diagnostic testing method. Have you had blood antibody testing for celiac disease done and do you realize that for antibody testing to be valid you must have been eating generous amounts of gluten for a period of weeks/months?

No, I've not been diagnosed as celiac.  Despite Entero Labs being relocated to Switzerland/Greece, I'll be doing another test. After eating wheat products in Greece for 4 weeks, there wasn't any reaction.  However, avoiding it here in the states.   Thanks everyone for your responses.
