the following are some products my daughter has been eating with no problems.

however, a lady we know has celiac and says she should not be eating these products at all.

i dont see anything on the ingredients list, but am i missing something?

kellogs corn flakes

kellogs rice crispies

random brands of hot dogs (we have swapped to only nathans or hebrew national)

any fritos or lays products

bologna

this lady wasnt diagnosed till in her 50's, has dh, diabetic, and several other issues. she has been gluten free 13 years now. i know she is trying to help us.

i just wonder if since lacee isnt having problems with these foods, if maybe our friends information is outdated, or if she is more sensitive than lacee, or if she only eats specialty labeled gluten-free products.

thanks in advance for all your help!!

With the cereals your missing the barley malt. Those two are not cereals we can have. If you do oats make sure they are gluten free oats. The others are heavily cross contaminated. We can have the Chex cereals that are marked gluten free and a couple others.

Your hot dog brands should be okay, I am pretty sure Nathans and HN are both gluten free.

With the fritos and lays products. I am very sensitive. I eat plain Lays chips and Fritos without an issue. Some of us do have problems with the flavored chips, myself included because of cross contamination issues.

There was one variety of Nathan's that used to contain wheat but no longer does. Hebrew National are gluten-free as are Boar's Head. If you want Lays chips that are made on dedicated gluten-free equipment, the STAXX line, all flavors are. Erehwon makes a rice cereal, a plain brown rice Rice Twice and one with dried berries that are gluten-free and labled gluten-free. There are some gluten-free brands of corn flakes. The General Mills Rice Chex and several other varieties of the General Mills Chex cereals are gluten-free and labled gluten-free.

None of those cereals are safe. Chex cereals and Coco, Fruity and Cupcake Pebbles are now safe. BOth of those Kelloggs cereals have gluten in them.

Oscar Mayer beef hot dogs are safe. Not sure on the 2 you mentioned.

Bologna not sure. Hormel Naturals has a lunch meat line that is gluten free.

Frito Lay products that are gluten free are the Lays Stax. They have a bunch of different flavors.

Frito Lay BBQ recently changed their recipe to include wheat, I believe.

Ditto on missing the barley malt on the cereals.

As you know now, the cereals are most definitely out. Any time you see malt you have to assume it's made from barley.

In the U.S., there are currently no hot dogs I know of that have gluten. Bologna is also safe. Frito Lay has a list online of products that do not contain gluten. Some of those could be contaminated, but eating them is up to you.

Tay Tay's Momma Newbie

I was just buying hot dogs yesterday. Nathans hot dogs are good. My issue is finding some reasonably priced that don't have msg added... I am new to this as Taylor was just diagnosed a few weeks ago. I looked at the ingredients of hebrew national and they have modified food starch, then I found out this morning that is supposed to be safe... Is that true?

Yes. Modified food starch is usually corn or tapioca. If it was wheat it would say so. It is never rye, barley or oats.

Yes, I, too, have osteoporosis from years of malabsorption, too.  Thiamine and magnesium are what keep the calcium in place in the bones.  If one is low in magnesium, boron, selenium, zinc, copper, and other trace minerals, ones bone heath can suffer.  We need more than just calcium and Vitamin D for strong bones.  Riboflavin B 2, Folate B 9 and Pyridoxine B 6 also contribute to bone formation and strength.   Have you had your thyroid checked?  The thyroid is important to bone health as well.  The thyroid uses lots of thiamine, so a poorly functioning thyroid will affect bone heath.

That sounds so very likely in my case! I will absolutely ask my doctor on my next bone check coming up in March... Thanks a lot!

Calcium levels as measured in the blood can be quite deceiving as the body will rob calcium from the bones to meet demands for it by other bodily functions. Also, supplementing with calcium can be counterproductive as it tends to raise gut pH and decrease absorption. More often than not, the problem is poor absorption to begin with rather than deficiency of intake amounts in the diet. Calcium needs an acidic environment to be absorbed. This is why so many people on PPIs develop osteoporosis. The PPIs raise gut pH. And some people have high gut PH for other reasons. Low pH equates to a more acidic environment whereas high pH equates to a more basic (less acidic) environment.

Kind thanks for all this valuable information! Since my Folate was/is low and also my Calcium, there IS a chance I am low in B vitamins... My doctor only measured the first two, oh and Zinc as I has twisted her arm and guess what, that was mega low too. So who knows, until I get myself tested properly, what else I am deficient in... I did a hair mineral test recently and it said to avoid All sources of Calcium. But this is confusing for me as my Ca is so low and I have osteoporosis because of this. It is my Adjusted Ca that is on the higher side and shouldn't be. So am not sure why the mineral test showed high Ca (well, it was medium in the test but relative to my lowish Magnesium, also via hair sample, it was high I was told). But anyway, thanks again for the VitB download, I will look into this most certainly!

Hello good afternoon, I was wondering if anyone has ever brought their anti-allergy pills? I have been wanting to use their Cetirizine HCI 10mg. They are called HealthA2Z and distributed by Allegiant Health.I’m also Asthmatic and these allergies are terrible for me but I also want to be sure they don’t have any sort of gluten compound.    I have tried calling them but to no avail. Has anyone ever used them? If so, did you had any problems or no problems at all?    thank you
