Blood Test Done Today

I got a celiac panel done today, food allergies, along with thryoid and glucose. Pleased with new dr. she leaned more toward thyroid, but thought I was on the right track wiht the celiac... since I glutened this weekend my heart keeps "popping" I guess that's a palpitation ;) and feeling fuzzy/out of focus and weak.

If it's not gluten then I don't know what the heck is wrong... feeling frustrated. IF it is gluten it means I've had this for about 20 years, cause that's when it ALL (tummy troubles) started.

Wow89, have you been gluten free for a while? If you have then i'm sorry to say that you have a very good chance of the blood tests coming back negative. I hope you get the answers you need.

Thanks for the info - stopped for 2/3 weeks - I tried to eat some this weekend.. told the dr about the lapse, even it says I am little I'm done with it as bad as I feel so as long as it's a 'little positive' that works for me. ;) If not, hormone issues it is! ;)

Please don't assume that if the test is negative that it isn't celaic. My doctors doing so cost me many, many painful years. When you are done with testing no matter what the results do give the diet a good strict trial.

Thanks for the advice - yes I am going to go gluten free, as because Sat and Sun I ate gluten, Tuesday a.m. I have D. It just makes sense. I have low B12 and am otherwise quite healthy despite my weakness, fatigue, palpitations, jitteryness, hair loss, ridges in fingernails and anxiety. These symptons REALLY majorly appear after I have had some sort of tummy virus or am sick, but the D remains a constant and tends to also appear around my time of the month. It could be hormonal too but it's gotta be the gluten.

question is there one symptom that all celiacs have or is it just that varied?

wow89 Rookie

Also just wondering... I can be sitting and doing nothing and then my body just kind of has a mind of it's own I start feeling anxious or my heart jumps or palpitates... is that a celiac thing or just my stress over waiting to hear something? ;)

Also, how long before you are back to normal ie - like you were before it all started?

I had that when I was severly anemic. I think because the blood can't carry enough oxygen so your heart tries to pump more. Have you been checked for iron, ferritin, B12, D?

Symptoms can really vary a lot. I also had a worsening in symptoms around the time of my periods, well until celiac put me in early menapause. The delayed D is fairly common for us. Also what you think are tummy viruses may actually be celiac symptoms. I am glad to hear you are going to give the diet a good strict try. I hope you have quick results, and you may with the D, but some of the other stuff may take longer to resolve. Do get your iron, ferritin and vitamin levels checked also.

You should make sure you are taking the sublingual form of B12 supplements as you may not absorb the pills you swallow until you are fully healed.

I had a blood test on Wednesday, but am also told that it could be negative as I've been gluten-free for a few weeks now. Did you get your results yet?

wow89 Rookie

Anabella - no test results yet? How about you? Waiting waiting waiting... It's just gotta be the gluten too much makes sense now!

I've been gluten free for a few days and am feeling lots better. My vitamin had wheat in it, changed to a sublingual B12 and and feeling better in all those aspects too. I used to also get sick after cleaning house, always thought it was because my hubby was germy - now I read cleaners have gluten.. could it be?

If it is positive I could have had this for 10-15 years!!! or more, I remember being constipated as a child a lot... is that a memory lots of kids have??? ;)

Will taking B12 and eating lots of eggs skew an anemia/b12 test?

So does all vitamin E mean what? I have a "holy grail" foundation I'm using and I really don't want to give it up :) (but I would) ;)

Yes taking B12 will skew the results and so will taking folate as it can give a reading that is higher than it really is for the B12. I don't think the eggs will. Just tell your doctor what supplements you are taking before the doctor tests your levels.

Not all vit E is wheat derived some is soy derived and there are other sources.

The best way to find out about the foundation's source is to call the company and ask. Not all of us would be concerned about the source in foundation. As long as it doesn't contact any mucous membranes in your eyes, nose or mouth and you wash your hands well it might be okay. If in doubt use something else until you feel better and then see if starting up with it again causes any issues.

This treatment looks promising. Its aim is to provoke immune tolerance of gluten, possibly curing the disease. It passed the phase 2 trial with flying colours, and I came across a post on Reddit by one of the study volunteers. Apparently, the results were good enough that the company is applying for fast track approval.  Anokion Announces Positive Symptom Data from its Phase 2 Trial Evaluating KAN-101 for the Treatment of Celiac Disease https://www.reddit.com/r/Celiac/comments/1krx2wh/kan_101_trial_put_on_hold/

BTW, we've done other articles on this topic that I wanted to share here (not to condone smoking!):

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.
