Headache From The Bread Aisle

Missing Bread

Missing Bread Newbie

Hello Everyone,

I have been gluten free since January. I have never been diagnosed with Celiacs but I have been told that I am gluten intolerant. I also need to stay away from gluten because I have Hashimoto's :( I have some good days and some bad one's. Sometime I do not know if it is from the gluten intolerance or the Hashimoto's. I am trying to stay positive but some days are easier then others.

I was just wondering if anyone has gotten headaches from being in the bread isle? I also notice that I cannot be around pizza or pastries without feeling sick.

Has anyone ever experienced this before?

Need Help!

The only time I find myself feeling ill is when I pass an Auntie Anne's pretzel place! I now take the long way around & hold my breath & walk /jog very fast! I get light headed & a drugged feeling...

The smell of bread makes me feel sick and I cannot enter a bakery without getting glutened from airborne flour.

I get a little queasy, but I think it's just mental for me becasue it passes really fast. I just steer clear of the bread and bakery areas.

Well I am happy to hear that it is not only me that feels that way. I have become really strict on what I eat and trying to not have any cross contamination but sometime when you are the only one in the house that has to be gluten free and you are the only one that cooks it is bound to happen.

Well I am going to have to start bringing people to come grocery shopping with me so that they can go down the bread aisle :)

Oh dear god, yes. The worst is when I'm not paying attention and walk right into the middle of a gluten aisle. I'll get hit with brain fog and vertigo out of nowhere and suddenly realize where I am, but then it's too late. I can usually make it back home - not always - and then I'm out cold for about 4-5 hours.

I've started to carry around little hygiene masks now that I put on if I go anywhere that may have gluten, like grocery stores. It works for 15 minutes or so, but usually if I stay for too long, I'll still start feeling ill again, sigh.

Would be much nicer if fewer places had gluten all around, eh?

I steer clear of those sections to avoid getting very depressed for an hour or three. I flirt with dysthymia enough as it is, I don't need to torture myself!

Yes I have even gotten to a point where it starts to effect my throat like I am getting a soar throat, there is even times when it effects my asthma. I wish I could open up a grocery store that has no gluten foods in so I can just get my shopping done with no side effects. :)

I might just have to try the mask. I am at point where I cannot even be around pastries at an event without it making me feel ill. I take Gluten Flam every night just in case of anything I might have inhaled or eatin will not take so long for my intestines to heal.

Thanks everyone :)

Sometimes walking anywhere close to the bakery department in the grocery store can be overwhelming. I wouldn't necessarily say that I've ever gotten any headaches, but without question it does bring back many unwanted memories.

@Jmartes71, I went to Doterra's site and had a look around.  The Doterra TerraZyme supplement really jumped out at me.  Since we, as Celiacs, often have digestive problems, I looked at the ingredients.  The majority of the enzymes in this supplement are made using black mold, Aspergillus!  Other enzymes are made by yeast Saccharomyces!  Considering the fact that Celiac often have permeable intestines (leaky gut syndrome), I would be very hesitant to take a product like this.  Although there may not be live black mold or yeast in the product, the enzymes may still cause an immune system response which would definitely cause inflammation throughout the body.   Skin, eyes, and intestines are all made from the same basic type of cells.  Your skin on the outside and eyes can reflect how irritated the intestines are on the inside.  Our skin, eyes, and intestines all need the same vitamins and nutrients to be healthy:  Vitamin A, Niacin B3 and Tryptophan, Riboflavin B2, Biotin B7, Vitamin C, and Omega Threes.  Remember that the eight B vitamins work together.  Just taking high doses of just one, vitamin like B12, can cause a deficiency in the others.  Taking high doses of B12 can mask a Folate B9 deficiency.  If you take B12, please take a B Complex, too.  Thiamine B1 can be taken in high doses safely without toxicity.  Thiamine is needed by itself to produce energy so every cell in the body can function, but Thiamine also works with the other B vitamins to make life sustaining enzymes and digestive enzymes.  Deficiencies in either Niacin, Vitamin C, or Thiamine can cause digestive problems resulting in Pellagra, Scurvy, and Gastrointestinal Beriberi.   If you change your diet, you will change your intestinal microbiome.  Following the Autoimmune Protocol Diet, a Paleo diet, will starve out SIBO bacteria.  Thiamine keeps bacteria in check so they don't get out of control as in SIBO.  Thiamine also keeps MOLDS and Yeasts from overgrowth.   Menopause symptoms and menstrual irregularities are symptomatic of low Vitamin D.   Doctors are not as knowledgeable about malnutrition as we need them to be.  A nutritionist or dietician would be more helpful.   Take control of your diet and nutrition.  Quit looking for a pill that's going to make you feel better overnight.  The Celiac journey is a marathon, not a sprint.   "Let food be your medicine, and let medicine be your food."

The Lindt (Lindor) dairy-free oat milk truffles are definitely gluten-free, and (last time I checked) so are the white chocolate truffles and the mint chocolate truffles.

I've used magnesium taurinate and magnesium taurate vitamins.  Didn't notice much of a difference when I used them.
