How Worried Should I Be About Cross Contamination?

I was just recently diagnosed with, at the minimum, a gluten allergy, I am still waiting for my celiac panel. I was instructed by my doctor to immediately go on a gluten free diet.

But I am fairly symptom-less besides a small spot of ezcema on my hand, and intermittent stomach pain that sometimes doesn't show up for months again after a bought of it. I am also waiting for a referral to a dietician.

So how aware do I need to be of cross-contamination? Can I be less careful about cross-contamination but obviously will still need to stick to a gluten free diet?

I think you need to see your test results first. If you are positive for Celiac and/or your endoscopy is positive, you need to be really careful. If all of your results are negative then you can decide based on your symptoms. I have Celiac and fortunately my symptoms are minimal but I need to be very careful because it cross contamination can lead to long term damage and more severe symptoms.

Hope that helps! Let us know how it goes.

Ditto! If you find out you have Celiac, you will only complicate your life by accidental gluten. Not only that, you may find that your symptoms will get worse and more numerous after a while if you continue frequently eating gluten. Feel fortunate that you only have minor problems now, Please don't make it worse on yourself.

I went over 12 years of suffering with each new year being worse (times 2) than the year before.

I encourage you to spend as time as you can reading the different post on this priceless forum before you get your diagnosis from the doctor. You will find that several on here had negative test results before going gluten free and discovering they had celiac all along.

Good Luck

Interesting, when I suffered for a few months with ectopics I noticed that carbohydrates would cause indigestion and bloating in my stomach, then that would lead to my heart skipping beats, and I could feel it in my throat, it was very unsettling.  My last serious bout of this was after eating a Muller Rice Pudding for breakfast.   I happened to be wearing a 48 hour halter at the time and cardiology picked it up, but they weren't worried about what they saw. There was some British doctor who'd made some videos on the Vagus nerve that I remember watching at the time which made sense of what I was experiencing, there did seem to be some sort of connection.

I asked my cardiologist about stopping vitamins.  He said his tests account for all detectable vitamins from sources other than food.  I only need to stop them for a couple of days.  He has me keep records of meds and vitamins I've ingested over the past 10 days and prior and he does his calculations.

Reply to treats I try and eat to bring up the glucose. Sometime I get up 3 times a night and eat something. I don't think food is the issue. A lot of the food they say should help doesn't.  Many mornings my level is 59 and I feel sick, sometimes for hours. It has been recommended I go to an Endocrinologist.
