Super Sensitives Makeup

I am pretty confident that my make-up is causing me problems. What do other super sensitives use for make-up or do you just go without?

Also, what do you use for chapped lips? I am using plain old vaseline but i'd like something else.

I've been mainly going without for make-up. I do use some occasionally, and I haven't noticed problems, but that is with only very limited use. For chapped lips I use Softlips organic. To test if it could bother me, I used it a whole bunch of times one day and the next, when I would usually experience symptoms, I didn't. They have a slightly tinted version too which I sometimes wear for "make-up".

What kind has been bothering you?

I use Everyday Minerals foundation, Nars blush, Loreal Million Lashes Mascara, Smashbox eye shadows, and either Afterglow or Burts Bees lip products.

When I was searching on here for shampoo and other cosmetics information, one thread had this:

afterglow cosmetics (they are after all made by a celiac...)

I have a text document for making notes of various things when I run across it, so I can have it handy when I'm making up a shopping list.

Thanks for the info everyone. I am using Cover Girl clean makeup for sensitive skin and Maybelline shine free loose powder. Cover Girl says the foundation is gluten free. I can't get any answers out of Maybelline. I'll look into your suggestions..Thanks

I've been going without makeup for 20 years :(

I am headed that way! I can't get an honest answer out of any of these companies. It's just not worth it to me. I will take health over beauty any day!

When I was a teenager (20+ years ago) I really thought I was going to get into the whole make up thing (despite no sisters/mum who was into it.. no surprise in hindsight). But it was just so irritating on my skin (the ONLY time I had " and in hindsight was like laundry powders, bread, pasta and so many other things I tended to avoid.

I would love to feel like I could trust something to put on my skin but after so long but I just don't know if I ever will. It never bothered me in the past ... just "me" but now knowing what it is all about - it kinda makes me sad .. and mad. I wonder how many women out there are suffering because of all these products and ingredients that our skin just isn't meant to have.

diandliam,

I've alays had the same problems and not been able to use make up until recently, I'm in AUS also.

I use Inika for makeup. I have never had problems with any of their products. Trilogy make good skincare products that don't both me either (which is rare), the only product of theirs that contains gluten is their hand cream.

It makes me mad too. The thing that is the worst is that none of the companies can tell you exactly whats in it AND, do I really want a bunch of chemicals all over my face every day? I would bet that there are a ton of women in our situation who can't wear make-up. It is sad.

I hear ya on the laundry detergents and everything. I have to use unscented Cheer or I will break out all over. Unscented Dove soap in the shower etc. Sometimes I would like something just a little girly and scented.:huh:

I have ordered from Natural Solutions for years. She does a great job sourcing beauty products for sensitives. I ordered from her before I knew I had a problem with gluten.

I use the Beautywise products, Earth's Beauty, as well as bare minerals (not ordered from her). I have NOT researched what I have to screen for gluten but so far no problems. I don't, however, wear cosmetics very often right now so who knows.

She generally lists product ingredients as well as interesting tidbits about product performance and use. She also lists gluten-free and other allergies is she knows them.

She does sell samples at a very reasonable price so it is easy to sample without making a huge financial commitment.

Just a note - she carries Devita which is FABULOUS. But, they advertise "gluten sensitive safe" products which contain oats and degerminated wheat germ oil. I used some of those products for years, then 2 months post gluten-free I woke up with swollen eyes. Stopped using them and it went away. So, unfortunately I don't use Devita anymore. But oh they work sooooo well.

OMG thankyou! I will try these suggestions and see how it goes. I have been searching and searching without any luck so am so grateful for these suggestions.

All afterglow products work for me.

The only product I use on my face daily is chapstick, I use Yes To Carrots and love it.

On the very occasional occasion that I do wear makeup I use Neutrogena mineral sheers powder foundation and Maybelline Great Lash mascara, haven't noticed any problems.

There's a lot of options online if you google gluten free makeup but it's quite pricey.

I use Dr. Woods Shea Vision Lavender Castile soap and it smells good and is very gentle. I've also used Dr. Bronner's Lavender Castile soap and really like it too, this is actually what I use to make my foaming hand soap...lavender is naturally antibacterial and the castile soap doesn't dry your hands out like most will. And it smells good! :)

Thanks everyone! I appreciate it!

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.

Exactly which blood tests were done? There are a few different ones and some docs don't do them all. Also, your results and reference ranges for each?
