What Refried Beans Are Ok

I love having refried beans in tacos. (and I have never figured out how to make my own from pinto beans)

What brands - that are not super expensive are ok to eat

I think all of them are fine. Read the ingredients. I like to get the kinds that have less "odd" things in them. just beans, salt, maybe citric something as a perservative. I don't get the hydrolized, autolyzed ingredients. They don't contain gluten but I don't need all that. I just want beans.

We just got off the phone with the folks from Old El Paso and they said that their beans are NOT gluten free. The ingredients do not indicate a gluten containing substance so it must be something in the production or sourcing. Just a heads up to everyone out there.

I eat Rosarita vegetarian and so far they are ok for me. I think someone here posted they had contacted them and their products were ok, but can't be sure. You may search it and see.

I eat Rosarita without any problems. I eat the regular ones though, bring on the lard!

      Oats naturally contain a protein called avenin, which is similar to the gluten proteins found in wheat, barley, and rye. While avenin is generally considered safe for most people with celiac disease, some individuals, around 5-10% of celiacs, may also have sensitivity to avenin, leading to symptoms similar to gluten exposure. You may fall into this category, and eliminating them is the best way to figure this out. Some people substitute gluten-free quinoa flakes for oats if they want a hot cereal substitute.
