Hiya,

I am going nuts eating only meat, vegetables and fruit. I am gluten, dairy, nut (including coconut) and corn free. Xanthan gum comes from corn so I can't have any of the packaged things. I can't have chips because they are fried in corn oil or they are cc with corn. I am not trying to complain, I am just starting to get D from all of the fruit that I eat. I can go through a whole watermelon by myself in 2 days. There has got to be something else for a snack besides fruit.

I cried at the grocery store today because I am having my monthly visitor and I just want some chocolate or a cookie or a chip or something! The lady in front of my had all of the makings for chocolate chip cookies in her cart. I seriously cried all the way home.

Any ideas?

Thanks

- MO

sou are h... Guar Gum is not made from corn so maybe you could make some goodies using Guar gum instead of xanthan gum... Also I don't have hte sites today but I do know that there are several cookbooks for completely alleregy free things. One may be Cybele ( don't remeber her last name) & perhaps check out Cooking For Isiah by Silvana .... Also there are many sites that have recipes for allergy free..

Check out these two places for ingredients.. Lucy's Cookies ( I think she is a doctor , maybe ! her things are very good, another is Home Free,I think they are gluten-free, peanut free, egg free, tree nut free, dairy free...

I think the more things we have reactions to the harder our journey becomes , plus more costly ....

It sounds like you are feeling food deprived... also thinkere is a site called Allergy Free. com perhaps you could find something on it as well...

Elizabeth Gordon has a cookbook : Allergy Free Desserts, its on the big shopping online store for $13.00-- sorry I'm not sure we are permitted to mention the big "A" online store on here...it does mention using xanthan gum but you can sub that with guar gum...

Goota run for now but I hope these help you....

Both of those companies use corn, Lucy's and Home Free. Bummer. It's in the vanilla and baking powder.

I'll check out the cookbook....thx!

Q: Are your products corn free?

A: Enjoy Life products do not claim to be corn-free. Having said that, we want Enjoy Life customers to have as much information as possible regarding our ingredients. The powdered evaporated cane juice in 2 of our Boom Choco Boom bars (Dairy-Free Rice Milk Bar and Dairy-Free Rice Milk with Crispy Rice Bar) contain less than 1% corn starch as a processing aid. This product is labeled

If you want some potato chips, try Cape Cod chips?

Dedicated facility and made with canola oil, not corn or soybean oil.

What about seeds? They aren't nuts. Would have to check if they are cooked in corn oil. You might be able to get raw and toast them in the oven. We have done that with pumpkin seeds and sunflower seeds.

Do you like sunnut butter? On apples?

Hummus and dip carrots and cukes? Homemade salsa and dip celery or cukes or those jicama things cut into strips? Same with guacamole.

Popsicles? Could even make your own with juice you like or fresh lemons, sugar and water. Could mess around with the fresh fruits mushed and frozen into Popsicles. You could eat it out of a bowl but it doesn't seem as snacky as a Popsicle.

Do you need to avoid soy? There are some wheat-free,corn-free, dairy-free chocolates out there, but the ones I've found have soy.

Obviously focusing in chocolate here! I cannot imagine life without chocolate in it.

Are you okay with rice and flax? Perhaps you could make something like a rice krispy treat with enjoy life's crunchy flax cereal or crunchy rice cereal (used to be "Perky's" brand) using those corn-free marshmallows.a

Just for crunch, I love rice cakes or crackers, Crunchmaster makes wonderful tamari rice crackers and also lundberg makes good rice cakes which I like with home-made hummus.

Wow, thanks all of you for the great ideas! I knew that you would come up with something for me. :) I really appreciate it so much. I'm going to print this thread and make of list of my new snacks. :)

What about these?

You could make them with Hemp seed, fox and/ or sun flower seeds, pumpkin seeds. Or a mix. Might have to experiment.

Edit:

"fox"? Spellcheck, really? Flax changed to fox? I guess Spell check has a point, fox would add a unique flavor and you probably aren't intolerant or allergic to fox meat! :)

Maybe make some Popsicles?

I am going to do just that. I had to search the basement for my tupperware popsicle mold and found it. As soon as I make some lemonade, I am going to freeze some.

So the tTG-IGA at 28 is positive for celiac disease. There are some other medical conditions that can cause elevated tTG-IGA but this is unlikely. There are some people for whom the dairy protein casein can cause this but by far the most likely cause is celiac disease. Especially when your small bowel lining is "scalloped". Your Serum IGA 01 (aka, "total IGA") at 245 mg/dl is within normal range, indicating you are not IGA deficient. But I also think it would be wise to take your doctor's advice about the sucraid diet and avoiding dairy . . . at least until you experience healing and your gut has had a chance to heal, which can take around two years. After that, you can experiment with adding dairy back in and monitor symptoms. By the way, if you want the protein afforded by dairy but need to avoid casein, you can do so with whey protein powder. Whey is the other major protein in dairy.

hi, i want to say thank you to you and @trents   . after 2 phone calls to my GI, her office called me back to tell me that a blood test was “unnecessary” and that we should “follow the gold standard” and since my biopsy did not indicate celiac, to follow the no dairy and sucraid diet. i luckily have expendable income and made an appt for the labcorp blood test that day. i just got my results back and it indicates celiac disease i think 😭   im honestly happy bc now i KNOW and i can go gluten free. and i am SO MAD at this doctor for dismissing me for a simple blood test that wouldn’t have cost her anything !!!!!!!!!!! im sorry, im so emotional right now, i have been sick my whole life and never knew why, i feel so much better already   my results from labcorp:   Celiac Ab tTG TIgA w/Rflx Test Current Result and Flag Previous Result and Date Units Reference Interval t-Transglutaminase (tTG) IgA 01 28 High U/mL 0-3 Negative 0 - 3 Weak Positive 4 - 10 Positive >10 Tissue Transglutaminase (tTG) has been identified as the endomysial antigen. Studies have demonstrated that endomysial IgA antibodies have over 99% specificity for gluten sensitive enteropathy. Immunoglobulin A, Qn, Serum 01 245 mg/dL 87-352

      Thank you this really helped.

Okay that is really good to know. So with that being positive and the other being high it makes sense she diagnosed her even without the endoscopy. So glad we caught it early. She had so many symptoms though that to me it was clear something was wrong.   yeah I think we had better test us and the other kids as well.
    • GlorietaKaro
One doctor suggested it, but then seemed irritated when I asked follow-up questions. Oh well—
