Help! I Might Be Reacting To Our Home Grown Chickens

We have been raising chickens for several years. Recently we have been feeding them wheat and soy. It was high in protein and relatively cheap. But I have been noticing my rash appearing after chicken dinners.

Does any know what we should feed them? I will say that we let them graze, but they need more than they can get out there on their own. Any ideas?

I am not sure if I should rely on the same psuedo grains that I am eating, worry about every ingredient, or put some in that I can not eat for variety.

Kitchen scraps are always tasty.

Have you looked to see what other grain mixes are available at the feed store?

Also, you could try growing little plots of plants for them. Google urban chicken farming and see what comes up.

And I'm betting, since you butcher the chickens yourself (I assume) some residual grain in their gullets is contaminating the meat or your cooking area. Do you butcher them the day of eating?

Is it possible you get the feed dust on you, and that's causing a problem? Touching your face, surfaces, etc.?

Unless you'r contaminating them while butchering, it's almost certainly not from feeding them wheat.

You can get any sort of wheat free grain mix, such as corn/oats/molasses, add some black oil sunflower seeds and some trace mineralized salt and a bit of dicalcium phosphate (which is available from mail order pet supplies). You can also find, if you look, wild bird seed mixes that do not have wheat, to which you can add the black oil sunflower seed, some corn, and salt/minerals. The trick is to use more than one kind of grain to get a more complete protein balance.

Because of my dog's severe wheat allergy, this is what we feed birds so he doesn't get cc'd.

I am trying rinsing the birds better before cooking. Other than that hopefully it was my butter and not the chickens. We don't butcher; we have too much city left in us for that.

Are gluten eaters in your house also using the same butter? If so I think you may have found the culprit. You need your own condiments, butter etc.

You could also be reacting to the seed you feed them either airborne or from residue on your hands.

I don't go near their feed. Last time my husband helped in its grinding I reacted to being near him.

I always use a new stick of butter. But there are other cooks in the family. I will watch that.

      Yeah, that sounds super familiar. When inflammation levels are high — especially at the start of changing your diet — the body often develops a fructose and lactose intolerance. Unfortunately, the only thing that really helps is cutting out anything that isn’t lactose-free or that contains sugar. So basically, stick to meat, veggies, fish…

      I have trouble with nausea. It often starts when I’m anxious about something (home repairs, sick dog) but continues long after the home is repaired or the dog is healthy again. When it happens I eat less and lose weight.  My gastroenterologist suggested ginger or peppermint tea. I don’t know if that will work or not because I haven't had the problem since she suggested it.

      Hello  I'm not sure what to think . Seems no matter what I do I get sick. I had some yogurt with only 2 grams of sugar and is labeled gluten free ...the strawberry version seemed to really set me off My jaw is burning as well as my stomach and my feet.  Horrible pain..plus acid reflux and nausea... sensitivity to touch pain. ..yikes !! I don't know if it's from the lactose in the yogurt or if I'm getting an ulcer  This condition can make you question yourself quite a bit.  Then if you are not sure the anxiety comes 😞 Does any of these symptoms sound familiar to anyone? The neuropathy is quite intense.  What do you eat or drink after this happens  Open to suggestions  Thank you

      Of course my son is on a 100% gluten free diet.  I wish his symptoms were not debilitating as there are right now.  He cannot work, even when a miniscule of cross contamination occurs.  It's not just GI distress, but intense fatigue, brain fog, depression, anxiety, insomnia, etc.  It's literally neurological inflammation.  Not to be taken lightly here.  We have sought out many other possible ways to cope during this window of time (8 months!!!!)  without success.   AN-PEP does not help and seems like studies on this are not well researched.  So, we are trying this out because research shows some promising results.  And, all participants showed no cravings afterwards, no signs of addiction.  The patch is different than the oral route such as smoking, vaping, gum, pouch, etc.

      Have you tried AN-PEP enzymes, for example, GlutenX (who is a sponsor here)? A lot of research has shown that it can break down small amounts of gluten in the stomach, before it reaches the intestines. It might be a better approach than risking nicotine addiction, and the questionable research around this. I also hope that he’s trying to be 100% Gluten-Free.
