Scrubbing Potatoes...

Hi guys,

Okay, so this might be a bit of a paranoid cross-contamination question; judge as you may. My dad insists upon scrubbing the outside of the potatoes with the same scrub brush as we use for scrubbing pots, pans, and cleaning dishes. I'm thinking this may pose a cross-contamination issue because I do not live in a gluten-free household, therefore you cannot assume the brush is clean. I've been told I'm just over-emotional... <_<

Does anyone have a similar experience or insights to offer? Or perhaps you are sensitive and have had a reaction to such forms of cross-contamination? Any information would be helpful, really.

Thanks so much!!!

Pre gluten-free, we always had a vegetsble scrubbing brush. That keeps the germs from the dirty dishes and meat off the veggies. I think its a sanitation issue

I wash my scrubbers in the dishwasher, every one to two days. I use a separate one for my food but hubs sometimes forgets to use mine therefore the constant dishwasher trips for the scrubbers. It works well for me.

Yea I agree completely. Maybe pick up a veggie brush in a dollar store and offer (read insist) that you scrub those potatos while he does some other dinner prep chore.

It is my opinion that it is 100% unsafe to clean a potato with a brush you use to clean pots in a non-gluten free household. I would pretty much need a gun to my head to eat those potatoes. Overly emotional? That's what happens when I get contaminated by morons who don't understand CC.

Agree.

One for the veggies, one for the dishes.

It's not CC, it's just sanitary and common sense.

Someone gave me a potato scrubber that is shaped like a potato. If you could find a scrubber shaped like a nasty, crusty, dirty dish you'd be all set! Besides bacteria and old food (and gluten), doesn't that get dish soap on your veggies?

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.

Exactly which blood tests were done? There are a few different ones and some docs don't do them all. Also, your results and reference ranges for each?
