Just wondering if anyone here has had burning lips? is it a symptom of gluten intolerance? wheat allergy?

I do have an appointment coming up and am getting allergy testing done along with B12.

Yes, I had burning lips, mouth, throat and GI tract for 3 years. It was horrible.

No one could explain it to me.

It was an inflammatory response apparently, because some time after going gluten-free after DX, it stopped.

Are they just burning, or actually infected? Could be perioral dematitis. If it is, an antibiotic will clear it up.

sorry, I should have been more clear...no signs of infections,no sores, no cold sores...I wonder if it's a B12 deficiency or an allergic reaction? will find out my B12 results next week and now I have a referral to an allergist..I was told the office would call me to set up the appointment...whenever/whatever I find out is the cause, I will post back and hopefully will help someone else who might have this symptom!

it feels like I ate something hot/spicy and it got on my lips.

I thought it was a B-12 deficiency too, but I was treated for that and it still burned. I had all kinds of allergy testing--nothing there.

It was crazy. I heard all kinds of theories: yeast infection, menopause, vits defs, etc etc. Nope.

Eventually, it stopped, but it sizzled pretty good for a long time....and yes, just like I had eaten and swallowed something hot and spicy.

I could not tolerate acidic foods for a long, long time.

Now, it's all gone. YAAY!

Hang in there--I hope you get answers --and some relief soon.

BTW, we've done other articles on this topic that I wanted to share here (not to condone smoking!):

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

This is an older article, but may be helpful.

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.

Exactly which blood tests were done? There are a few different ones and some docs don't do them all. Also, your results and reference ranges for each?
