  1. Does anyone know where I can find gluten-free smoked paprika and gluten-free liquid smoke? I've heard liquid smoke is often not gluten-free and I really want smoked paprika for some recipes I'd like to make. Also, have you ever heard of a gluten-free turkey bacon? Know any brands that make one? EDITED TO ADD: I am kosher, and it appears there aren't...
  2. My favorite brunch foods to make are a fritatta with broccoli and mushrooms (and cheese, if you can eat it) and home fried potatoes.
  3. Wow this thread is exciting because I've been wondering how to make dairy-free, gluten-free casseroles and now I have a bunch of ideas. Creamy Portabello soup sounds delicious. I'm going to have to try that out.
  4. Open Original Shared Link What do you all think?
  5. If you make it, be sure to let me know how you like it! I can always use feedback on my recipes, as they're all works-in-progress
  6. Hey all, I created a new blog for posting recipes, local restaurant reviews, etc. Gluten Free By The Bay Open Original Shared Link Come check it out
  7. When people say "Passover flour" they usually mean "Cake meal" or "matzo meal" both of which are made from finely ground matzoh, which is made of wheat. Matzo is the only form of wheat we Jews eat during Passover, so plain wheat flour's not okay but if you take a matzo (which is made of unleavened wheat) and grind it up into flour, that IS okay... HOWEVER...
  8. Way to advocate for your needs, as well as those of all newbies! Well said.
  9. Here are all my posted recipes including the one for Honey Cake. Don't forget to review it on RecipeZaar if you end up making it! Open Original Shared Link I think the Honey Cake is by far the best gluten-free cake I've ever made, or at least a close runner-up to the yellow layer cake (recipe for that is also listed)
  10. Hi all, In case anyone's interested I just posted some new recipes to RecipeZaar: gluten-free Applesauce Molasses Cake Open Original Shared Link More recipes, including Polenta Pizzas With Roasted Tomatoes and Kalamata Olives; I Can't Believe It's Not Gluten! 11. I am practically jumping up and down at the thought of a gluten-free noodle kugel! So exciting! I will definitely keep my eye out for them in the spring and stock up then. (Did you see my recent post on Gluten-Free Honey Cake and Potato Kugel?)
  12. That's fabulous! Next time I'm visiting my grandma in Hastings maybe I'll stop by...
  13. hing=asafetida, and yeah it's not gluten-free... but i'm not sure that all that many Indian restaurants (esp the inexpensive ones) use it. I thought asafetida was pretty expensive? But I'm not sure. That's good to keep in mind.
  14. Jerseyangel - That's the kind of soap I used to use, I just decided to switch it up this time. Oh well, back to unscented Kiss My Face olive oil soap for me! Everyone else - Re: the lavender oil - I've been using lavender (natural essential oil) scented Avalon Organics shampoo and conditioner for over a year with no problems except it drying my hair out...
  15. I know there are other Jews on this forum so I thought I'd share my excitement over creating this new recipe this past weekend, which was so moist and yummy no one could believe it was gluten-free. If you make it, will you please be so kind as to review it on Recipezaar.com? Thanks! Gluten-Free Honey Cake (Traditional for Rosh Hashanah) Open Original...
  16. I am using Dr Bronner's bar soap (lavender scented) right now. My skin has been incredibly itchy for a few weeks now and it may be a coincidence or it may be from the soap. It could also be it's from something I'm eating. Does anyone know if Dr Bronner's soap is gluten-free?
  17. I love Indian food. Now that I'm gluten-free I almost only eat out at Indian and Sushi restaurants. I've never had a language problem communicating with servers at an Indian restaurant about gluten. Then again I stick to the Indian restaurants where I feel trusting of the place and the servers. I always ask: Is flour or wheat used to thicken this? ...
  18. At first I thought it sounded really gross, but I'm so glad I tried it. Good Karma's Gluten-Free/Lactose-Free Rice Cream, Carrot Cake Flavor.... Holy moly, it's one of the tastiest ice creams I've had in my life! It didn't taste remotely like "rice cream" It tastes like carrot cake - Including the creem cheese frosting! It has little nuggets of gluten...
  19. L'Shanah Tovah to everyone!
  20. I am sure that it's possible to have a soy intolerance or allergy and no symptoms, however... One of the ways I'm figuring out exactly how sick soy makes me, is I've cut gluten out completely but I'm still getting sick... And when I look at what I eat when I feel sick, it often involves soy. For instance, I will eat a meal with almost no common allergens...
  21. Chelsea, My honest take, as a relative newbie: I found people here very welcoming, and encouraging. The board made me feel like I was less crazy. But it annoys me, too. I have suffered so many health problems in my life that have been mistreated, misdiagnosed, etc (most recently two ruptured discs that no one bothered giving me an MRI to diagnose until...
  22. I haven't tried it (I have a hard time imagining lentil pasta being good, but who knows!). Someone on the celiacbayarea list posted this e-mail they received from Pasta Pomo (a post dated 6/06): >The brand that we use in our restaurants is > Papadini. If you would like > further information on their products, you may visit > their website...
  23. Wow! That is too exciting! I hope they are good. I will definitely see if my store has them, if not they will surely have them around Passover since it looks to be a K-for-P item. I am also planning to work on making my own, using Chebe dough. Will keep you all posted. Thanks for pointing out the gluten-free section on the Manischewitz page!
  24. Hineini is Hebrew for "here I am"...
  25. My personal take on this: The worst thing you could do right now is beat yourself up. As with anything involving self-discipline (stopping drinking, dieting, taking care of one's health, etc), beating oneself up is a SUREFIRE way to lapse again. Yes, I have "cheated"... But I'm getting much better about things. Cheating used to mean caving and eating...
