  1. Yes, nausea is a symptom of Celiac. For a year before I was diagnosed, I would have my 2 slices of whole wheat toast for breakfast and then by the time I left for work, I felt like I was suffering from morning sickness. I was nauseous A LOT. It's been almost 4 years gluten-free for me and I am never nauseous now! Good luck and feel better soon!
  2. I am not sure all Celiacs have this problem....I know I don't and I have never had a problem with taking any OTC pain reliever, post diagnosis and recovery. Everything will be a problem before diagnosis but I think many do use Tylenol with no problems. Also, isn't Hydrocodone the generic form of Vicodin, which is a powerful narcotic? I've used Vicodin after...
  3. This is all very interesting, even though it is a subject I know nothing about. However, I will add that my mother, who I KNOW has celiac disease or GS because of her flaming symptoms (the ones she is in denial about), was a product of the 50's when there was little to no birth control. She was pregnant a total of 8 times and miscarried 4 of the pregnancies...
  4. I drink only one thing at Bucky's....a soy chai latte and it is MUCH better than the milk version! I have tried the coffee lattes but I like the chai better. Doesn't mean they aren't good also but I prefer tea to coffee. I doubt you will be disappointed.
  5. According to Dr. Peter Green, autoimmune liver disease is so closely associated to Celiac that ANY person diagnosed with autoimmune liver problems should be screened for celiac disease. Many Celiacs, including myself, had elevated liver enzymes before going gluten-free. I also have 2 copies of DQ2 and BOTH my parents show very strong symptoms of celiac...
  6. No, you do not need to have a gluten-free household but it can become problematic if you have children, for obvious reasons. My husband has his gluten containing foods right next to mine in the pantry but his and mine are all stored in plastic containers, so there is no fear of CC. He is very careful about wiping up his gluten crumbs when he makes sandwiches...
  7. I agree totally with you! People focus too much on gluten but it sounds like new celiac may have other intolerances as well, and these can cause villous atrophy. It is not always a gluten problem. Dr. Green's book was excellent and one every Celiac should read. It covers many of the questions I see posted here all the time and gives up to date, excellent...
  8. Mother of Jibril.....with all of your symptoms, autoimmune problems and a mom with Celiac, you should never, ever doubt yourself that you do indeed have celiac disease. This is how a diagnosis used to be made, before doctors got cocky and relied solely on a biopsy or blood result for everything. Many of us here have multiple autoimmune problems and the last...
  9. I have Celiac, Sjogren's, Hashi's and Reynaud's....at least these are the ones I know about! I had the SS-A/SS-B testing for Sjogren's and they were high so mine was a positive on that one. I also have the symptoms to back it up. Tell me, can you swallow a piece of bread without drinking anything? Honestly, I think that is a better predictor of Sjogren...
  10. One of the biggest errors many people can make is assuming that all of their troubles are gluten related. Even though it can take a awhile for your intestines to heal, you should be feeling better by now, if your problem is just gluten. Many Celiacs also have other food intolerances or allergies, particularly to soy and dairy. I was also extremely ill and...
  11. Try the chicken breast stuffed with fontina and proscuitto....it's absolutely delicious! The Carrabba's near to me does an outstanding job with the gluten free menu. They never put bread in the bag with gluten-free meals and I don't even have to go through the whole spiel with them. I just say I am ordering from the gluten-free menu and they get it right...
  12. I have no children but speaking from my own experience......pale, floating stools CAN mean Celiac because I had that symptom for years before dx. Large volume stool that floated and the reason for this is because of fat content. When you don't absorb nutrients, whether all the time or sporadically, you pass fat directly out into your stool. This will result...
  13. If a person is having a topical reaction from a particular product, you are correct, that would be an allergy which is a totally different animal than an internal, autoimmune reaction. If you read any reputable Celiac information, especially those by Dr. Peter Green, he goes into this in depth in his recent book, "A Hidden Epidemic". It is very common for...
  14. I have been going there for awhile and have to agree.....of all the places I have had gluten-free pizza (which is 2 as of this date!) , the Boynton is the winner, hands down! It really is good and the crust is always crisp on the bottom and not doughy. They only have a gluten-free pizza menu, though. They used to have a regular gluten-free menu with...
  15. I feel so bad for people who have these types of experiences eating out. It has been the exact opposite for me and I have had huge success with eating out, on the rare occasions when I do. I think it all boils down to where you decide to eat, though. I know the 99 chain and haven't eaten in one since I was in my 20's......25 years ago. They are only one step...
  16. Sorry but I disagree with you. If a person feels they cannot use make-up or lotions without eating them, then it probably would be prudent to use gluten-free products. I do not check ingredients on make-up, etc. because I do not eat them....ever. It hasn't been difficult for me at all. The proof that I am not ingesting any is my blood work and anyone else...
  17. Are you allergic to the ingredients in make-up? Topical products are not a problem, as far as gluten is concerned, unless you have an additional allergy. I have been using eyeliner for years with absolutely no problems. I would also guess that many eyeliners do not contain gluten. It's a little different than liquid make-up.
  18. I totally agree with you on this! I think in today's world, we throw the addiction word around freely and apply it liberally because it removes guilt and responsibility. Now we have people who overeat themselves into obesity but instead of calling it what it is, a behavior issue, we classify another "addiction". One of the reasons for this is because once...
  19. It all depends on where you live. There are many restaurants around me which have excellent gluten-free menu's and have trained their staff on cross-contamination. I do not eat out often but when I do, I never have been glutened. No symptoms and the results of repeat blood work has always been fantastic. It can be done very successfully but it highly depends...
  20. How true these words are, Fiddle-Faddle! My whole family, except for my sister, just will not believe that they could have celiac disease also. IF I had needed an endo and had one done, they STILL would not believe me. I could have worn a biopsy result pasted to my forehead for all to see and they still would turn their backs on me. 50% of all my family...
  21. Why can't you enjoy a cheeseburger now? There are a whole bunch of companies that have rolls that taste far better than any gluten containing rolls out there. We all know that cheeseburgers are gluten-free anyway so no reason to give those up! As far as looking for cancer, that is all most doctors hone in on. If you are having any kind of internal...
  22. Rose Tapper....brizzo is 100% correct with the information given. Even people with DH can handle gluten and that will not cause a reaction that is Celiac related. This is a big point of confusion for people. If a person reacts to a lotion or shampoo topically, then they most likely have an ALLERGY to an ingredient and that ingredient could very well be...
  23. I think that the gluten-free diet is most probably healthier than what most of the population eats because we have to know every ingredient that we ingest. We are much more aware than the general public. However, you can make mistakes with this diet and if you eat a lot of the prepackaged goodies that are gluten-free, you could end up eating a large amount...
  24. I would agree that most allergy shots would not be useful for food allergies....that's a different animal. As I don't have any food allergies, it would be interesting to see how this helps you. How nice it would be if they could turn off the autoimmune response!
