ARCHIVED Weak Chipping Splitting Nails
Gemini replied to badcasper's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
That's a screaming thyroid issue....a classic symptom. You should have a full thyroid panel done. -
ARCHIVED What Kind Of Doctor Can Test For Thyroid Or Sojourn Disease?
Gemini replied to 3bears2's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
To be tested for thyroid disease and Sjogren's Syndrome, all you need is a good doctor, who understands these two AI diseases well. I do not go to specialists for any of my 4 AI diseases because my PCP is well versed in them and she just runs blood work every now and again to see what my inflammatory markers are for them. I have these 2 diseases myself... -
ARCHIVED Any Scientific Evidence Than Less Than 20Ppm Can Cause Ttg Rise?
Gemini replied to greenbeanie's topic in Super Sensitive People
I have never seen anything that would indicate that such low levels of gluten would cause a jump in tTg. I think that if her DGP is negative, then the cause of the jump would not be gluten ingestion. If it were possible that low levels, by chance, caused the jump, then it would also show in her DGP results. -
ARCHIVED Hormones, Hashi's And Celiac- How Does This All Work Together?
Gemini replied to icelandgirl's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Oy Vay! No wonder you feel like crap! I understand as my latest blood work showed a jump to 4.65 for my TSH that normally runs around a 1. My T3 is optimal and my T4 is off the scale low. I have almost needed a crane to get out of bed in the morning for work and it takes me about an hour to fully wake up. This was all a result of an experiment to appease...- 144 replies

I forgot to add that recently I had my blood work done for a re-check and it was all really good.......all numbers close to zero. That would not happen if I were ingesting gluten on a regular basis. Their potato salad and cole sale are gluten free but they do not test so cannot mark it as such.

Whole Foods in my area does a fabulous job with their deli stuff so don't be scared off because not all deli's are alike. I have eaten their potato salad numerous times with no issues and I am a very sensitive celiac who WILL become sick from minuscule amounts. The one I go to does not keep their potato salad or cole slaw next to gluteny stuff. I ask them...

ARCHIVED Family Cluster Of Celiac - The Legacy I Want To Leave Behind
Gemini replied to homeschoolmama's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hey! Good to meet someone else with Celiac and Sjogren's! I think your head is soooooooo in the right place and you will do well because of it. I have the same attitude, despite having 4 autoimmune diseases. There are times when your positive attitude will be challenged but overall, it is awesome to be able to have so much control over our health and... -
ARCHIVED Daughter's Ttg Suddenly Doubled
Gemini replied to greenbeanie's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I hate to say this, greenbeanie, but without doing proper follow up testing by the doctor, you may be looking for gluten exposure that does not exist. You would think the money for all this testing was coming out of the docs pocket! Doing a tTg without the DGP is useless. tTg does not, and never did, test for dietary compliance, as you well know.... -
I have Sjogren's Syndrome and have had it for years before I was diagnosed. Like you, I stumbled onto it after doing some research. There is antibody blood testing that can be done but because it is an autoimmune issue, there are false negatives that can occur. I would suggest a trip to an ophthalmologist and ask for testing. I did have some eye infections...

Dental Floss
Gemini replied to TGK112's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I am sure you received many mixed comments because there are many who are convinced everything is a danger, even though that is not true. Instead of looking all over the internet for information, the best resources for celiac related issues would be Celiac Disease organizations who usually have the most up to date information or......this forum! I have... -

ARCHIVED Remission
Gemini replied to TGK112's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I think it the correct term to use. Remission does not mean the disease has gone away but has become dormant....the symptoms have disappeared as a result of treatment, which would be the gluten-free diet. It becomes squirrely when you are an asymptomatic Celiac or have symptoms that are atypical. Congratulations on the success of your diet! -
ARCHIVED Stickers On Fruits And Veggies
Gemini replied to TGK112's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Not at all! Both the stickers on fruit/veggies and envelopes are safe....no gluteny glue in either! Those are Celiac myths. Besides, stickers should be removed and fruit/veggies washed before consuming and it has nothing to do with gluten. Too many people handle them in the process of bringing them to market so bacteria or whatever else should be more... -
Dental Floss
Gemini replied to TGK112's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
You are too funny, bartfull! On a more serious note.......dental floss is not a concern, even the flavored ones. -
ARCHIVED Is There A Good Hamburger Bun Out There?
Gemini replied to murphy203's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I never waited to try gluten-free bread because I was a skinny Celiac and was 20 pounds underweight at diagnosis so had to eat bread. Never once did I compare it to wheat bread and actually, the gluten-free bread tasted amazing to me because I was not getting sick from it. I have never once missed wheat bread. It did not keep me from healing well, either... -
ARCHIVED Is The Endoscopy Even Worth It?
Gemini replied to kabons's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
As much as I think our government needs some serious overhauling, I do not think they will allow insurers, no matter who is behind the policies, to discriminate in future because everyone has a pre-existing condition. Some more serious than others but almost everyone out there has a health issue which can be classified as such. If they want everyone insured... -
ARCHIVED Afraid Of Colonoscopy/endoscopy
Gemini replied to Sunshine Sassie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
A negative biopsy does not rule out Celiac Disease. If there is inflammation of the small intestine or changes that can be seen with the naked eye, it very well still could be Celiac, regardless of a negative biopsy. Patchy damage is patchy damage and this is where people get bad info from doctors when they don't hit the right spot. If the biopsy comes... -
ARCHIVED I Think I Might Have Hashimoto's - What Test Should I Ask For?
Gemini replied to HavaneseMom's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
If your insurance requires that the TSH and free T4 need testing before they can do the rest of the panel, then go with that for now and see what the results are. If they come back OK, then insist that your doc run the rest of the panel and reiterate that you are having major hypothyroidism symptoms. I never understand how an insurance company refuses to... -
You are allowed a small time frame for feeling sorry for yourself but I can really assure you........you will be able to eat out again, probably in time for summer, if you follow the diet strictly and let your gut heal. You will learn, over time, how to eat out and what places are safe for you. I have been doing this for 10 years and my life feels completely...

ARCHIVED I Think I Might Have Hashimoto's - What Test Should I Ask For?
Gemini replied to HavaneseMom's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
OMG......the comment about the midwife made me chuckle because I would have done the same thing. If I had ever had kids, it would have been at home with a woman of knowledge! And I probably would not have gone running off to the docs through-out the pregnancy, either! I was not stronger, just sick of coming home from work and crawling into bed, sick... -
You two stay out of trouble, but of course, we will want details! This trip will do you a world of good so enjoy every minute of it.

ARCHIVED I Think I Might Have Hashimoto's - What Test Should I Ask For?
Gemini replied to HavaneseMom's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Honestly.....we must have gotten the same doctors out of the same bad medical school, Ladies! Pretty sad that men who are so well educated would fear a female asking too many questions about their own health. Like Nicole, I diagnosed every single one of my AI diseases and then when I read up on how to actually test for them, I went to the doctor and... -
ARCHIVED I Think I Might Have Hashimoto's - What Test Should I Ask For?
Gemini replied to HavaneseMom's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Dr. Nicole beat me to the punch and her advice was excellent. Tell the doctor that they MUST run a FULL thyroid panel because anything less is negligence....don't take no for an answer. It only takes your thyroid being off by a small amount for you to feel sluggish and running in slow motion. Running the whole panel will give a clear picture of what is... -
Would you, by chance, be planning a visit to that rabble rouser Irish on your Florida vacation? I hope you have a wonderful time, whatever you do! As the Rolling Stones say....get your ya-ya's out!!!!!!!
