ARCHIVED Wonky Blood Tests Esp. Liver Enzymes Tests (Or Liver Function Tests In The Uk)
Gemini replied to cristiana's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Christiana...it did not take me that long to type all that out. I type fast. Those typing lessons in school as a child must have paid off....who knew there would be this thing called the internet. One of the other AI diseases I have is Reynaud's.....although they call it a syndrome and not a full fledged disease.....whatever. It has improved on the... -
ARCHIVED Wonky Blood Tests Esp. Liver Enzymes Tests (Or Liver Function Tests In The Uk)
Gemini replied to cristiana's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi Christiana! I have been diagnosed with celiac for almost 10 years and I had elevated blood protein when diagnosed. I had other wonky blood work also, like elevated liver enzymes. All resolved on a strict gluten-free diet. Celiac makes the liver angry and it is very common to have elevated enzymes for awhile after diagnosis. It can take quite... -
Safe Wines For Super- Sensitive People?
Gemini replied to Shell156's topic in Super Sensitive People
There may be some vineyards that do this, especially in Europe where the wine making is centuries old. However, I drink wine on a regular basis and love the French Rhone wines. I have never, ever had a problem with any wine I have drunk and I am extremely sensitive to small amounts of gluten. I would not be doing as well as I am right now if there were... -
I would say that you are 100% correct, cristiana! I have been traveling to Britain for the past 20 years and the food quality and restaurant scene have exploded in the past 10 years, with offerings of all sorts of cuisine from around the world. But even the most basic British classic meal, such as fish and chips or the ever popular Sunday roast, has been...

The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat

I am a pretty good cook myself but can I adopt you???????????? That risotto sounds heavenly! -
It sounds like you have something else going on and it most likely has nothing to do with the flu shot. Do you have gall bladder problems? This is common to those with Celiac Disease anyway. You may also have pancreatic insufficiency, whic would cause gastro symptoms like you mentioned. FWIW.....I have never had a flu shot. I have also never had the...

I think this is great but honestly? The UK are heads and tails above the US with their knowledge of food in general, when dining out, and already offer many more options than we see here in the US. Every time I go there, it gets better and better. This past trip in October I found that Starbucks offers delicious gluten-free sandwich wraps, all pre-packaged...

ARCHIVED Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency
Gemini replied to Gemini's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I know...isn't it bizarre that what you thought was normal was actually a serious illness? I have a few years that I don't remember much about because I was so out of it. The good news is that as time goes on and you heal more and more, recovery from a glutening happens much quicker. I am at the 9 1/2 year mark gluten free and I usually am over a glutening... -
ARCHIVED Feel Like There Is No Answer
Gemini replied to Brit1612's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The symptoms he is experiencing could defintely be from resuming gluten. ESPECIALLY the pale colored stool....a possible sign of fat malabsorption. Maybe they could also do some stool testing to check to see if that is happening? That is an easy test. Lots of people alternate between constipation and diarrhea with Celiac but the docs like to call that... -
ARCHIVED Feel Like There Is No Answer
Gemini replied to Brit1612's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I am sorry you are going through all this as it is beyond frustrating. The more common associated conditions that can trip the IgA-tTg are thyroid disease, autoimmune liver disease, Crohn's Disease or Type 1 diabetes. This does not mean a person has them, as you know, but the possibility is there. You are also correct in that there is little out there... -
Hashi's does occur frequently with Celiac and I think you'll find that if you have undiagnosed Celiac for long enough, all that inflammation does not just cause damage to the small intestine. The immune system starts to attack other organs and the pancreas and thyroid gland seem to be the most popular targets. My Hashi's diagnosis came 20 years before the...

ARCHIVED Feel Like There Is No Answer
Gemini replied to Brit1612's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You said the DGP was normal and that is the test which tests for dietary compliance. The actual number is important with this test because the lower the number, the better dietary compliance is. If the tTg-IgG is elevated while the DGP is not, then I would look for other autoimmune related problems to Celiac which may be going on because, as was mentioned... -
OK...I realize I am one of the skinny Celiac's but I work out at a gym with a personal trainor and the vast majority of the women at the gym are not like me. They are there to lose a lot of weight and many of them are middle aged......like me. The things I have learned about maintaining weight and gaining muscle are good for losing weight too and followed...

ARCHIVED Celiac Testing And Insurance
Gemini replied to Water Street's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I know you obviously think the ACA is the greatest thing since sliced bread and will continue to discount the obvious but what you have said is not true. You can't keep bulldozing over other people's experiences with it because you don't like what is being said. I know what my employer pays for their share because they tell us every year. They actually... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Testing And Insurance
Gemini replied to Water Street's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Oni.......I have the same situation as you do. I have Blue Cross, provided by the university I work for. It is good insurance and I am lucky that the university picks up about 75% of the cost because if they did not, the alternative would not be good. Your rates would not go up as a result of a diagnosis under a group plan, except for the yearly increases... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Testing And Insurance
Gemini replied to Water Street's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You are correct, Arlene! What is being done is the shell game. Older adults will be charged up to 3x more for insurance because of all the pre-existing conditions that happen by then and any health problem is considered a pre-existing condition. It appears you don't even have to be older, from what I have seen. Younger people with good jobs will also be... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Testing And Insurance
Gemini replied to Water Street's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
SMRI......I made the point of saying I was not trying to start an argument but I knew someone would. My information is 100% true. You haven't read the law because it's in there. It is illegal to refuse insurance to anyone but like it or not, those with pre-existing conditions WILL BE charged more than healthy, younger people. I am sorry that you have a... -
ARCHIVED Has Anyone Cruised Windstar?
Gemini replied to mbr22m's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
I highly doubt you'll have any problems with a Windstar cruise.....especially in Europe. They are a high end cruise line so that is a big plus and Europeans accommodate Celiac Disease well and understand cc. I have been to the UK many times since my diagnosis..never had any problems and I am quite sensitive. I have a friend who does European river cruises... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Testing And Insurance
Gemini replied to Water Street's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It depends on what type of insurance you purchase on whether your premiums increase because of pre-existing conditions. You correctly stated this in your post. If you have insurance through the company you work for (private), then you won't notice any increases, other than the yearly, across the board increases that occur these days. Mine went up 2.4... -
ARCHIVED Hormones, Hashi's And Celiac- How Does This All Work Together?
Gemini replied to icelandgirl's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Icelandgirl........I will PM you my e-mail address. Not a problem! Still feel the same........viruses are so crappy. Nothing you can do but wait. if I drink anymore water, I will turn into a camel. You will return to London. When you feel better, down the road. I highly recommend it. I'll tell you my favorite places to eat. So many restaurants...- 144 replies

ARCHIVED Hormones, Hashi's And Celiac- How Does This All Work Together?
Gemini replied to icelandgirl's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hi Icelandgirl! I am currently at home with an upper respiratory virus......or at least that is what it appears to be because I am feeling too bad to go to my doc and have her tell me that it is a virus and there is nothing I can do but wait it out. I think we all know what happens when you have an infection and I am not having infection symptoms. But...- 144 replies

ARCHIVED Hormones, Hashi's And Celiac- How Does This All Work Together?
Gemini replied to icelandgirl's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Ignoring FT3 is the sign that you need a new doctor because it is very important. I see you have not been doing this too long so there is much learning for you to do. Also, the relationship between Hashi's and Celiac is pretty strong and anyone diagnosed with either disease needs to be screened for the other. Gluten most certainly is a major irritant to...- 144 replies

ARCHIVED Update, Sad
Gemini replied to mommyto2kids's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I am pretty sure a letter from an attorney would change their attitude because Celiac is, after all, covered under the ADA as others have mentioned. In this era, that is discrimination. It all depends on how far you want to take it but I know that may not be the right decision for you. Stupid people........... -
ARCHIVED Could Your Retainer Be Preventing Healing? Yes.
Gemini replied to powerofpositivethinking's topic in Publications & Publicity
How do you know 100% for sure that it was the retainer which caused this reaction? There are so many variables with reactions, especially in children who could have potentially cheated on their diet, I don't see how it is possible for you to make this statement that it was the retainer. Irishheart posted an excellent response and yet......you still insist... -
ARCHIVED Could Your Retainer Be Preventing Healing? Yes.
Gemini replied to powerofpositivethinking's topic in Publications & Publicity
Arlene.........I couldn't agree with you more. Although I think it plausible that scratches on a retainer could be a problem if kids are cheating on the diet, somewhere along the lines of a scratched pan or container, it is a bad road to go down and worry about plastics containing gluten causing a potential problem. One should never put off dental work...
