  1. Hi, I am considering purchasing either the Gluten Guard or Clan Thompson's Smartlist to keep track of what is gluten free and what is not for my grocery shopping. Has anyone used either one, compared them or know anything about them. I am just not sure which one to get. Thanks
  2. Hi Brizzo, I surely understand. I have been in your shoes and being different is not easy. However, sometimes being different is much more rewarding that being one of the crowd! Our son (18), probably my mother (deceased) and grandmother (also deceased), my father in law (died of alzheimers and diagnosed as celiac in autopsy), sister in law, 3 grandchildren...
  3. Hi, I had skin scratch allergy testing done as a child (several times) and now at almost 57 years of age I need a good source for allergy testing. I am allergic to more foods than I am not it seems, so I need to get this down to where I really know what is seriously throwing my body off. I have heard about blood tests that will tell you what you are...
  4. Hi, My favorite recipe book is Carol Fenster's Special Diet Solutions Healthy Cooking without Wheat, gluten, dairy, eggs, yeaast or refined sugar. I personally use honey in place of anything else that is suggested, as I think they body breaks it down better. I actually have too many allergies to eat just about anything I bake for our family and son...
  5. I always use Pacific's gluten-free Rice Milk, both plain and vanilla in place of everything that calls for milk for my families gluten-free recipes. I have always had success with every recipe with it. I get mine at Whole Foods and buy it by the case at a discount. Our grocery store out of state HEB had it, but haven't found it yet in Colorado at King...
  6. We had a B&B and my roaster (same idea as a crock pot) was my time saver. I generally didn't even use a recipe. I just put whatever sounded good into it and put water in so things wouldn't burn. If I wanted a gravy of sorts I would throw in some gelatin! Roast, carrots, pots, celery, onion, salt and pepper, water. Turned it on low heat, around 2...
  7. Hi Deb, I am spending the afternoon ready through some of the posts and what a shock to find so many others like me that can only eat a few things, even though we are gluten free! If anyone finds a solution, I sure would be interested in hearing it! I weigh about 90 lbs and that's after working very hard for a year to gain several pounds back. I can...
  8. I was just reading through these posts and hope its not intruding. I don't usually post here, but...I just discovered that my paper plates/cups possibly can contain gluten. I contacted the manufacturer and they told me there was a possibility they could contain traces of gluten. Also, dishwasher soap can! Its amazying where tiny amounts can be hiding that...
  9. I just talked to them a few days ago. He is working on releasing a study. He did not want his results released until his study was finished, by what I understand. His work is surpassing the blood tests apparently and one day may become the new gold standard. I am only reporting what was told to me, just was tested by them and am awaiting my own results...
  10. You could maybe call Betty Hagman and ask her. I know I have called Carol Fenster (ph # on her web site) and she helped me out with trying to make substitutions a few years ago. Its worth a try! They understand these things much better than we do! They experiment and experiment!
  11. Can you have honey? If not, what about fruit juices or crushed fruits? I use applesauce to sweeten muffins etc.
  12. Its really not that bad, once you get the hang of it, it will become natural. First, wine is a sugar, so I would guess you will need to keep away from it for a while. Lunch meats, unless they are from places like Whole Foods, will have nitrates, which are carcinagenic and can contain all sorts of things. Gluten would be wheat, oats, barley, and rye. There...
  13. Its possible that you may be having similar gluten symptoms, that are really "digestive" symptoms from the fat in hamburger. Most celiacs have problems digesting fats. I know I have trouble and the symptoms are quiet similar to when I get into gluten. I take very good digestive enzymes, this eliminates those symptoms. Does it happen "every" time you eat...
  14. How about gluten free crackers with whipped avacado's spread on top? If you can have dairy you can add a little sour cream to it. If you can't, its nice all by itself. Add a little lemon juice and it will stay nice longer. Add some gluten free sliced olive pieces, pimento or any other tasty little thing (even baby shrimp) that would make it look nice...
  15. Zojurish, by far, but it is spendy! We have tried several and nothing makes gluten free bread like this one. They now give you the gluten free settings in the manual to make it easy as pie!
  16. You can always call them, I don't have the number right here or I would give it to you. You can also make an apt and they can look at your blood under a dark field and really see a lot of what is happening, plus test some other things. They really can help! We actually go back and forth every few months, as my husband has business there and we still have...
  17. Hi, Well, I just posted an answer to your question above, but it isn't here. If it appears twice, please forgive me. I will try to type it again When I was desperate, I called Transformation Enzymes in Houston (after trying so many other enzymes it made my head spin). They were so kind to me and as I began pouring out all my health issues they began making...
  18. You might be taking the wrong ones. I went through several different kinds until findin the ones I take now.
  19. You sound like me, only you can eat more foods than I can! I am finding, however, that taking VERY GOOD PROFESSIONAL, not over the counter, Digestive Enzymes makes all the difference in the world. I really think every celiac person should be taking them. No, I don't sell them and this is not a sales pitch. I just know how they have helped me and are helping...
  20. Here is a favorite (THEY ARE DELICIOUS!!!) gluten-free muffin recipe of ours that doesn't use any of the "normal" gluten-free flours: 5 cups ground nuts (we use finely ground pecans) 1/2 cut oil 1 c honey 1 tsp baking soda pinch of salt 6 eggs (if you can't have eggs, then use pureed fruit) Mix all of the above together and optionally you can add...
  21. I read some reviews about it and some said the Breadman didn't make very good gluten-free bread, but they were postings from a few years ago. You have to be able to skip part of the cycles for gluten-free bread because gluten-free is so different from regular bread mixing. I know that the zojirushi is thought to be the best for gluten free baking. Our daughter...
  22. Hi, I either keep my own gluten-free baking mix (Carol Fensters cook book) or a package of Bob's Red Mill Baking Mix (Arrow Head Mills also now has one) on hand for things that call for flour like your soup. I just use the same amt of whatever it calls for and it seems to work fine. The mix from Carol's cookbooks don't have bean flour whereas some others...
  23. We buy K-inni-Toos made by Kinnikinnick Foods. They are Gluten Free "Oreos"! AND, the come in Chocolate Sandwhich Creme and Vanilla Sandwhich Creme. They should work for what you used to use! We buy them by the case, as they are gluten free/diary free/egg free/trans fat free! Our 18 year old LOVES them. I have to hide the cases! Hope this helps! I...
  24. My favorite is Carol Fensters "Special Diet Solutions" AND, The recipes on Bob's Red Mill internet site. Open Original Shared Link
  25. Hi, I had the same problem with an almost identical mixer. gluten-free batter is sticky, no way around that for most things. I had also tried using different bread machines. Zorishi (sp?) is the best, our daughter has one that I use, but I still think regular oven gluten-free bread is the closest to normal bread. I talked to Carol Fenster in my frustration...
