  1. 2. Ken- Have you ever thrown out an entire dinner because it was inedible? The people want to know: Are you growing pennicillin in the back of your refridgerator? It's gluten free protein in the back of the fridge -- make's Peg Bundy;s seem clean!<G> 7. Ken- Is it true that you once traveled to Japan to ask for Sumo underwear for lunch?...
  2. Thats a stitch! reminded me of one of the first times in Japan when I asked for extra mawashi in my ramen instead of moyashi. The waiter then said in English they didnt have Sumo underware to put in noodles!
  3. I suspect this is going to be a fun thread After 32 years of marriage I can tell lots of wife stories but suffice to say that we have his and hers cookware and knives. If she keeps leaving the stove on we may get his and hers propane bills too! I can remember making a casserole for a small group of friends once that turned out so bad I took...
  4. Amy's and Drew's have a number of gluten-free dressings but your daughter may enjoy making her own.
  5. You already have some great answers. I spend 2 to 3 months a year in various countries and dont cheat. If I get glutened accidently, it puts me out of commission a few days which is not fun in other countries. The last thing you want to do is get stuck in a hospital in some out of the way place. Having spent 58 days in one in Japan I can attest to that...
  6. If you look at all the cross contamination messages in the sections, you'll many of us have different reactions. For myself and others who re sensitive, we've had to change all the pots, pans, cutting boards, utensils and so on. For some of us, dishwashers or boiling them may be enough. I wouldnt go near a fryer that had breading in it. Some people have...
  7. I can break out in DH within minutes at times, followed by bloating and stomach pain depending on how bad I've been glutened. We all seem to react differently which tells me how little they still know about it! Good luck
  8. After almost 2 years even with accidents, I can get a reaction to gluten in minutes, especially if I inhale flour in a kitchen or forget and lick an envelop. It's a constant battle to be diligent vrs, hunger. It can happen fast and slower for me depending on the type of accident. Good luck
  9. It is nice. I used to have a grinder to mac macadamia nut butter but burned out from overuse! I wish my students and some of our chefs wrote the recipes up as clear as you do!
  10. This was on my menu for tonight! I use cashew butter and our Kona salt and too much garlic but almost the same. Yep -- you have to do the cook book!
  11. In my almost two years of being gluten-free, I would say it hasn't taken me back to the beginning but it is a set back to some degree. The way my body feels after an accident it's been from 3 days to 3 weeks in terms of feeling. When I accidently inhale flour in someone's kitchen that as caused the most trouble followed by licking envelops which I dont do...
  12. I also used Gillette sensitive skin most of the time but have switched to the generic kmart gel for sensitive skin. Have also just worked up bar soap into a lather and tried Dr Bonners. Always hated shaving and tend to only do it when I have too. Never liked Electric razors either. Have only had DH on my neck once. Never checked the health food stores for...
  13. Thanks for posting the link, its a great resource!
  14. For me it's gardening. Not the fruit trees that my job requires but small potted plants and finding or making strange pots to hold them. I have a small coffee tree growing inside a old coffee pot -- rubber tree growing inside a tire. Back yard full of veggies. Even bought a used fridge we keep outside so I can grow flowers that need a dormant cold time...
  15. I head back to Japan on the 5th for at least a month. Going to the worlds largest food show again which is always interesting. Last year I took the soba class and went to an allergy seminar on the rise of wheat allergies in Japanese school children who follow a more westernized diet. Not sure what programs they will have this year although I have to give...
  16. Thanks, I keep meaning to play with more quinoa in the cooker. My wife wont eat it but even before going gluten-free we seldom ate teh same things over the last 32 years
  17. I have a large enough stockpot where I could boil the stone we had. Have not had any reaction from using it and I consider myself rather sensitive. It's worth a try like ravenwoodglass said.
  18. I've often thought about making it in the rice cooker but always forget when I'm in the kitchen. Have you tried more than a tablespoon in the cooker? Ken
  19. By all means post it! Those of us "into" it would like very much to see what you have. thanks Ken
  20. I dont blame you at all for being upset, I dont think I would have handled it as well. The older I get the more I loose my cool with these types of idiots and with the system that creates them and the problems we try to solve. Not knowing if a medicine is gluten-free is crazy-- my doctor always says to ask the pharmacy and of course they always say to...
  21. Not sure how I can help although in things you send her you can quote some of the things we are doing in Hawaii with chefs and restaurant guidelines and classes for culinary students. Chefs tell me 10% of the guests not have some food allergy, mostly celiac followed by peanut followed by shellfish, so they know they have to get up to speed on it all. Magazines...
  22. Make sure they contact me next time they are here and I'll fix them up with some lime syrup to bring back. Still illegal to send most fruit back to the mainland. Better yet, come with them and pick up yourself!
  23. I dont think I had a coke since I was 10 and thats back when they cost 7 cents! Never liked carbonation or the taste of anything from a metal can either. You raise a good point though. I wonder if the vitamins can affect our taste perception. I stopped all meds when I was diagnosed and have been gradually adding vitamins that I used to take when I...
  24. I make this all the time too except use a ultra fine pink salt from Japan and Kona Rangpur lime juice. Wish I could send you the limes from here, they are just great! Open Original Shared Link ken
