  1. 'K let's hope I got the correct board this time to start this thread on! Is midol okay? Or more specifically, midol menstrual? I'm going through trying to find something for that (actually it's been ongoing since I was 13) and am back to midol. I called and they said the schpeal of how 'we do not include any gluten ingredients in the product but we cannot...
  2. Hm okay. Thanks. I'd never heard vaccines come up as an issue, but again - I'm just paranoid now about putting anything in my body unless I know it's gluten-less
  3. Sorry if this is the wrong topic or if it's already been discussed. But, are seasonal flu vaccines generally safe for gluten-intolerant people? I know it doesn't get ingested. Just shot into the arm or whatever...but I'm just so used to double-checking anything before putting into my body that I felt I should check on this too. The place I work is strongly...
  4. Oh good Lord. Stay away from the gluten then, the blood tests be damned! If it makes you feel any better, that's what I did. I had a blood test turn out negative, as well as another test (although never the biopsy). And I just got so despairing over my painful "attacks" that I decided to get rid of gluten, just to see. I was getting hopeless. And whatdyaknow...
  5. Good luck. I find the whole gluten-intolerance thing depressing too and in general, am not the happiest person. Like others said, counseling of some sort may help just for some support/comfort etc. Also, I lost some weight when I started the diet as well. And although I'm thin, my stomach has always had a little bit of a roundness to it. It bothered...
  6. Yeah way back when I started, I remember being told Doritos were safe as well. So I went to a vending machine once, optimistically bought some...and then, since I usually like triple-checking always, noticed the "wheat" thing. And then I think I just left them in the machine. Waste of money. Not sure where the "Doritos are safe" myth comes from...
  7. I snuck about four yesterday and so far haven't gotten sick...yet... ... Thanks for the feedback!
  8. No, haven't done that. Maybe I should. I'm thinking maybe it was their salad for some reason. I got grilled cheese (With gluten free bread...I hope). They knew I was gluten-free and i think I would have noticed if it was "real" bread. So that was probably made separately. I don't know why I'm thinking maybe it was the salad, since I doubt that required...
  9. Yeah something similar happened to me a few weeks ago. A restaruant that allegedly has a separate kitchen and everything for no gluten. I got food, all seemed dandy. Then later that night I had one of my gluten-attacks. There was really nothing else in the day that could have caused it. I am disappointed. Now I am afraid to go back there. I'd eaten there...
  10. At CVS I got some free "M&M Premiums" with the Mocha flavor. Tried looking around online to see if they are gluten free to no avail. And the number to call is done at 5, but I kind of want to eat them now! Has any one tried this or know if they are okay? It says it may contain almonds and peanuts, but nothing about gluten free. Anyone? *eyes them...
  11. No offense to your wife...but oh no, that comment would not have gone well with me. Lol. If someone gave me that kind of remark, they'd either get an earful of bitter sarcasm or a dirty look. That's just rude. I mean I guess if I was pointing it out ALL the time or something...but yeah that kind of peeved me just reading it.
  12. I had a bad reaction to boxed wine once. Lol, I was at someone else's house and had just gone through all this effort to check if some 'orange' vodka they had was gluten free or not, using their computer and all... and since I couldn't find online that it was, I gave in and thought I'd go with the ever-safe wine. But I had a bad reaction...after an hour...
  13. lol see I think it's easy for me because even the thought of biting the corner of a saltine cracker makes me shiver. I just hate the kind of digestive pain and drama I get from ingesting gluten. I have nightmares about it, even...I'll shove something in my mouth unthinkingly, start chewing, and them am like "Omg...this was a mini-muffin!! NOOO! Why did I...
  14. Yeah some days I feel bitter about it, and annoyed. Even though I know I shouldn't and at least I don't have 5,000 allergies at once...etc. etc...but honestly. It is rather constricting to have this kind of an issue when one lives in a society that is so quick paced, depending a lot on quick accessiblity to food, etc...not to mention how much the social...
  15. Oh yeah. Go ahead and feel sorry for yourself. Maybe we have to keep our chins up as much as we can during life, but at least feel here is a safe place to complain. Because at the end of the day, it does kinda suck and it is an inconvenience. People end up living with and dealing with what they're dealt...they do...but it doesn't mean we don't have the...
  16. Hmm...I mean, maybe the wine was just bad or something? The reaction seemed a direct result of drinking that wine. But I've never had a problem with any wine before that, but also have never had it in a box before. So maybe there was something in the box...? Ehh, it's just annoying sometimes when even something I deemed 'safe' causes a reaction. I purposefully...

    ARCHIVED Vent

Yeah, it's always a relief for me when someone actually gets it. Where I work, I can only think of 2-3 people who really seemed to get it. I'm always glad when there's not a friggin' blank stare. Because some people seem to view it...possibly...as me being finicky, nitpicky...you know, it COULD seem like I'm just high-maintenance/difficult. That's why it...

    I second that.
  19. Hmm okay, thanks for the two who responded. I guess wine isn't always safe and boxed wine should be avoided. All right. Just add that to the list of a million other things I can't have/must be wary of.
  20. Hi all, Not sure what happened last night. I've been gluten-free since January of 2007. Here and there, my stomach's gotten a sharp pain, discomfort...making me think something must have had gluten during the day that I had eaten. Usually the pain comes an hour after eating something suspect, but never TOO bad. But last night...dang. Haven't had...
  21. Me too! I went gluten-free in January of 2007. And, oddly enough, it was only within the past couple of months that I had nightmares about it. It was sort of a blank moment in the first one...I just ate this little piece of cheesbread or something...then after was like "NOO, no! What did I do? WHY did I think I could do that? Now what...?" but woke up before...
  22. hmm...how long ago did you start gluten-free? I too just did the diet w/o knowing if I had Celiac for sure. Immediately it removed a lot of the problems, but in the first month - I had really bad "C", and tried prune juice and other odd things. Not sure what happened. Maybe the influx of rice products (which stops you up, right?) and other things. Anyway...
  23. Yeah I hear ya on the 'no friends' thing. But st least you've got someone! Maybe there will be some people at the support group...
  24. Glad I could help! Good point about the food in advertising everywhere. But yeah, I was thinking how it was becoming disabling to me already. I wasn't sure how I was going to be able to hold a job if I always had to worry that "it" could hit any second. And I didn't really want to live with the pain and drama. But - I had other stuff way more on the top...
  25. Hey. I was looking at your signature quote - and it seems very similar to mine. I was diagnosed with IBS-C originally too. My Celiac blood test came back negative. They put me on Zelenorm. It made me bleed. I told the doctor this, and he looked at me like I was crazy. He even did a sigmoidoscopy, and said it was no problem, not the Zelenorm. I stopped taking...
