  1. Go with what makes you feel good. If you have gone the medical route and feel better eating gluten free, I say go for it. Lots of fruits, veggies, nuts, and meats. Good luck.
  2. Good luck and I agree w/ previous posters. I have a friend who has a son w/ Crohn's and she said he follows a gluten and casein free diet. Keep an open mind. Good luck again.
  3. I just got the Gluten Free Bible, which facts are false? Just curious.
  4. If you have Celiac, it's a serious life long condition and I highly suggest you go the proper route for diagnosis first. You can always just try the diet later. Think of how many people just think they can't tolerate dairy or are lactose intolerant. That's what I thought with my son. Since we've been doing the gluten challenge for the biopsy, he's not...

    ARCHIVED Dr. Guandalini?

I'm anxiously awaiting an appointment with Dr. Guandalini at the end of this month for my two children? His credentials are amazing and I'm excited to meet with him. Has anyone had any experience with him? I know he is a well known expert and I've got my hopes set high.

  7. Food for thought......My son tested negative on his tTG from Enterolab and his blood work was positive for Celiac (tTG). I almost didn't have his blood tested because of his negative tTG from Entero. Enterolab is not published nor has it been repeated and reviewed by other physicians. I admire what Dr. Fine is trying to do, but I still think that there...
  8. Good luck and I've logged back in, only my third password. Why am I having these issues? Hang in there and I know you will find a GREAT doctor! They are out there, but sometimes very hard to find. Find one that's in it for the right reasons. You're a great mom and doing everything you can to make your kids well. I'll say a prayer for you all tonight...
  9. Find a new doctor!!!!!!! I have been dealing w/ a mess for the past year. DO NOT PUT HIM ON THE DIET YET!!!!!! Ask them to run a tTG and a full Celiac panel. Ask for a copy of the results. Go to the Chicago Celiac Website if you want a list of the tests. The tTG is the best one for screening. If he comes up negative, you can always try the diet, but...
  10. I thought our story was the worst ever. We have been struggling for the past year and we first had a GI that made front page of the paper for an incompetence investigation, a doctor who ran the wrong blood test, and a lab that didn't take enough blood to run the CORRECT blood test. Finally, after 4 doctors and 4 months gluten free our new doctor ran the...
  11. Stick to your guns. A mother's gut is always right. We got the blood results back the second week of December and our appointment is Monday. I want them to just do the biopsy ASAP w/out a gluten challenge and then if they don't find ANYTHING, I'd be willing to TRY a challenge. I heard the bloodwork normalizes before the intestines so maybe there's still...
  12. Wow! That's great! My son definitely has more wishy, washy questionable reactions. His symptoms aren't as obvious and forward. I'm so glad she's doing much better. We are lucky it hasn't really affected his growth, yet. I would have done the same thing in your case and I hope she continues to feel better! Good luck!
  13. Not to pry, but just curious. I don't know your whole story. Why are you not doing the biopsy? I just read Dr. Peter Greene's book and he stresses the importance of a strong diagnosis for a child because some day they will be out on their own and start eating wheat again and may not have immediate symptoms. Even if the blood test was negative, isn't there...
  14. My son's bloodwork was positive for Celiac and we see the Peds GI next week. He also has acid reflux really bad and gets multiple canker sores. I photograph and document all his sores and keep a food journal. He's had 17 sores in the past 3 months. Eight at one time. We have narrowed down the sores to dairy, not the lactose but the protein casein in...
  15. The only thing I know is that my son's tTG was positive. Sorry, I can't help w/ the others, but I THINK any elevation in any of them indicates a gluten problem. Good luck.
  16. Saw your daughter is 22 months. Sorry, on the test my doctor ran, anything above 7 was positive and for under 2, anything above 5 was positive. Hope this helps. We have a FABULOUS doctor! It's only our 5th try. He has Celiac himself and is very knowledgeable and understanding. Good luck and hang in there. We have learned the most about our son by...
  17. Sorry, forgot to ask the age of your daughter. Sometimes it's not that accurate in young children under 2 or 3. That is maybe why he didn't order it.
  18. GET THE tTG TEST!! Trust me, it's very specific and sensitive to Celiac. It's so frustrating that doctors don't know what tests to order. The tTG blood test is the best one for screening for Celiac. The genetic markers can only rule it out, not in, because you can have the gene and not have Celiac. It's a simple blood draw. I highly reccommend the tTG...
  19. The test may still show postitive. I think a lot of people think that the evidence goes away immediately, and maybe for some it does. Others have trouble getting a NORMAL blood test even after going gluten free. Don't sell yourself short. I would get the test, who knows you may get your answer for sure. My story w/ my son is a nightmare that I wish I would...
  20. Please know that you are not alone. I totally feel your pain and know EXACTLY what you are going through. My son Thomas has been sick for the past year with terrible stomach pain and recurrent apthous uclers (multiple canker sores). We have had a heck of a time with the medical system and I too am at my wits end. Here's my advice, take a deep breath and...
  21. I did have my daughter tested for Celiac. My new doctor is awesome and has Celiac himself so he has a vested interest in all this. We started looking deeper into Haley after she was complaining of joint pain and acid reflux. Her tTG was only 1.something and she's not even gluten free. That's not to say she won't develop it in the future though. I saw...
  22. Thanks for the sweet, caring words.
  23. Thanks so much for your educated and timely reply. He definitely seemed to improve on the diet. He NEVER would sleep through the night before. He just seems ultra sensitive to all foods and his system seems so raw. Within a few hours of dairy, he is in so much pain and then the next day the swelling and canker sores break out. He had 8 of them in his...
  24. Sorry, I meant NORMAL is less than 7. Sorry.
  25. My son's tTG is only 8.4, but he's been on a gluten free diet for 4 months. Normal is below 7. We were given given the wrong blood test four months ago and went for a second opinion. I'm so frustrated since now I don't know if the biopsy will be accurate now. UUUUGG!!!!!!!!
