  1. He has not taken any supplements and has not had his levels tested. My doctor's here are not very informed/knowledgeable about gluten intolerance. Could celiac cause the malabsorbtion of these levels or is it an entirely different problem. I'm so confused. What specific tests could I ask for and what type of doctor would do them? Thanks
  2. I'm really struggling and doubting myself again. My 8 year old son had a terrible history of multiple, painful, recurrent canker sores. This along w/ acid reflux, stomach pain, and vomitting were his main symptoms. We started the diet Sept. 4 and he got his first canker on the 27th. Then, not another until Nov 3. Now, he's got another one!!! UGG!!!...
  3. Glutino Pretzels are delish, better than the normal ones and Kinnickinnick makes delicious flavored donuts. Our faves are the chocolate glazed. Yum!
  4. I would agree with the previous poster. Wheat Free Worry Free is warm and fuzzy and a great read. Dangerous Grains is very liberal and Dr. Greene's book is more conservative and based on today's concrete scientific evidence. I thought all three were very good and beneficial in their own way. They each add something. Good luck!
  5. I agree about being positive. :) Thanks so much. Usually, I wouldn't say anything, but people need to remember it's hurtful sometimes when pointing fingers and it can be taken personal. :( Thanks so much for the info about the CNN news story. I've got so much positive information and support from this site that I'm not going to let one negative experience...
  6. Be careful who you point your finger at. Drug companies are not the enemy in all cases. They create drugs that kill infections and save lives. Have you ever had an infection? 90% of people who have type two diabetes are obese. My husband's company will make over a billion dollars off this drug. If people were healthier, ate better, and exercised more...
  7. thanks for the advice.
  8. My daughter is 10 and still wets the bed. We think my 8 year old has Celiac, but since the doctors didn't know the proper tests to run, my only diagnosis is positive dietary response and a double copy of DQ2. Now my daughter is popping TUMS left and right, wetting the bed, have bone/joint pain and has bad allergies. I'm going to get her in to the doctor...
  9. I agree with the previous poster and Carla. I would do the gene test through your medical doctor. We did Enterolab, but I really don't believe it 100%. The only thing to remember about the gene test is that they generally only look for DQ2 and DQ8 only. I have also heard that DQ1 also seems to play a significant role. People are doubting Dr Fine and Enterolab...
  10. I would just go off diet response and maybe do a gene test. With your family history of Celiac, diet will probably give you a clinical diagnosis. You could do Enterolab, but I don't think it's 100% neccessary. Good luck! Remember, the proof is in the pudding.
  11. I know he would ship it to you. The owner's name is Jim Krohl and he is a wonderful man. The phone number is 309-797-9449. This is the number for Stashu's. It's a sausage shop/pizza place. Ask for Jim, or leave a message. Two brothers own it, but Jim is the one who developed it. Tell him you heard about it from me, Kandi, on the Celiac message board...
  12. we have a local pizza joint called Stashu's. They make the best Gluten Free rolls, calzones, and pizza. They also have an all-purpose flour mix that is WONDERFUL!! I made the most delicious banana bread yesterday. You cannot tell the difference. I even use applesauce intead of oil. Our community is so lucky to have this gentleman. It took him two years...
  13. Fancy meeting you here!!! I could hook you up w/ zillions of recipes. Take any favorite recipe and use that Stashu all-purpose flour mix w/ splenda for Baking. I have some killer recipes! You can convert almost any recipe. I'm loving that Stashu flour mix. I just baked banana bread. I used applesauce instead of oil and it turned out great!!! I have...
  14. maybe it's the msg or too much sodium??
  15. I totally agree w/ you Rachael. What good is a test if everyone comes out positive. Everyone will be told they have a gluten sensitive gene. Also, people generally feel better when they eat healthy. I can even over eat on gluten free junk and then feel like crap and want to go lay down. I did Enterolab and I honestly think it was pointless. I truly...
  16. so happy she's feeling better! your kids are adorable! way to go!
  17. wow! Thanks for all the great replies and now I'll stop doubting myself!!! Mainstream candy bars may be a good thing to stay away from!
  18. Interesting to know that there are even questions when you are in the "real" medical community. My advice is go for the "medical" diagnosis and then try Enterolab. We did Enterolab after all the doctors screwed up the tests and then out of desperation we put my son on a gluten free diet, which worked. I really don't put that much faith in Enterolab, but...
  19. Where did you get the info that Double DQ2 poses the greatest risk to celiac. That's what my son is. Thanks
  20. I wish Dr. Fine would publish his studies too!!!!!!!!. I used him for my son and I'm beginning to think it's a bunch of hooey!!!!! If they keep telling people, we're publishing next year...oh, next year....next year....so on and so forth, they will lose all credibility and go out of business. It seems to me like they're telling people what they want to...
  21. Your post brought tears to my eyes. We all empathize and understand and can relate. It's a sad, scary state when you feel so alone and no one believes you. Please hang in there. My son went through a lot and he's 8. We saw multiple doctors and finally, believe it or not, found a wonderful doctor who has Celiac himself! We got so frustrated and had doctors...
  22. We have been gluten free for 10 weeks and honestly if someone came and lived with me for a week, they would never know they were missing gluten. I think loving to cook and bake works to our advantage. I bake monster cookies from gluten free oats, peanut butter balls (naturally gluten free), gluten free pantry brownies are awesome too! I cook every night...
  23. Hello All! One of my son's worst symptoms before we went gluten free were canker/mouth ulcers. There were multiples and they lasted a long time and were really painful. He's been on a gluten free diet since Sept 5th, 2006. The only two lapses we've had which resulted in canker sores involved 3 Muskateers Bars/other treats. He seems to do so well when...
  24. I agree and I think your reply was very well spoken. We can't point fingers and blame the drug companies who like you said need money for research and the money comes from the profits they expect their drugs to make. Also, for every drug that comes out, hundreds never do. Like we were both trying to state, a drug would just generate publicity and "talk...
  25. I made monster cookies yesterday. Yum. Ate way too many though. They're naturally gluten free when you use gluten free oats and oh so delicious!! YUmmy! Let me know if need the recipe!
