  1. After our first doctor ran the wrong test, our second doctor ran the correct Celiac panel. The problem is my son's tTG was only slightly elevated. It was 8.4 and positive is anything less than 7. He had been gluten free for 4 months though when the blood was drawn. Which would show positive longer, blood or biopsy? I'm wondering if there's any possible...
  2. Sometimes I feel as if we have had the worst luck this past year with labs, doctors, and blood tests. My son has been battling for the past year with terrible mouth ulcers and stomach pain. Acid reflux and chest pain have been horrible as well. I'm so upset w/ the system I could just scream. :( My son was given the wrong blood test for Celiac back in August...

ARCHIVED Celiac Sprue & Doctor Too!

Anne, I greatly appreciate you responding to all these emails. You are a wonderful addition and resource to this board. I definitely agree with you 100% in my son's case. I would love to see the biopsy proven results just because it's hard to differentiate between "accidental glutenings" and "is this really working". Thanks so much for your expertise and...
  4. I love getting little "nuggets" like this! Thanks
  5. Hey you!!!! Wow! That picture is worth a thousand words. So glad to hear your appointment went well!!! I'll call you later! Kandi
  6. My 2 cents is get the blood test before you go gluten free. Then, if it's positive, you have a definite answer. If it's negative, you can always do the diet to rule out the test being false negative.
  7. where are you at in IOWA? We live in Iowa! We're from Bettendorf.
  8. My son's major symptoms are stomach pain and mouth ulcers. These symptoms can also be related to Behcet's Disease and Crohn's. Since going gluten free, he's improved, but isn't perfect. He had a terrible stomach ache last week followed by waking up the next day with 8 canker sores in his mouth. He still complains of tummy aches, but they don't wake him...

ARCHIVED Celiac Sprue & Doctor Too!

Wow!! This message board is great. Ann, it is wonderful to get your perspective on things. We have a family doctor who has Celiac disease himself. It's been a God send. I have been battling with my son's issues and found a doctor on the internet in Iowa who has the disease! We drive 3 hours round trip just for our office visits, but it's worth it. He...
  10. Great article. Did you get your diagnosis by dietary response, or did she (Mollie) end up having a biopsy? Great article again, loved it. Maybe now doctors will educate themselves!
  11. My son gets mouth ulcers/canker sores. I've not heard of the cold sores, but I 'm sure it's possible. It seems anything is w/ this disease. He had a bad stomach ache on Tuesday and then woke up with EIGHT cankers sores Wednesday morning. So painful!!! I feel so bad for him! Good luck w/ yours.
  12. oh no, what's wrong with chips and a rotisserie chicken. I thought these things were gluten free.
  13. sorry to hear about your bad day and please know that you are not alone. i have managed to ruin a two layer cake, 3 dozen muffins, 3 loaves of banana bread, and a pan of brownies in the past three days. I'm ready to scream!!!!!! me son somehow got glutened and he had a terrible stomach ache yesterday and then woke up with 8, yes 8, canker sores this...
  14. Gluten, casein, soy, chocolate, aaaaaaaaahhhhh!!!!! I have no idea what else to look for or do. I feel like once I strike all the offending foods from my son's diet that there will be nothing left. To try to eliminate all the canker sore/stomach ache/acid reflux causing foods is nearly impossible. I'm normally a great cook and I have ruined two cakes...
  15. hopefully they'll come around, good luck!
  16. Was this traditional testing done by an allergist or did you use the ELISA panel? Thanks
  17. Me too! Jennie-O's a go!!!!!!

Sadly to say, I haven't found one yet and would love to know some as well!
  20. Thanks so much for your wonderful replies and support. I am going to make an appointment w/ my doctor tomorrow. I had a great talk w/ my mom too. She's so supportive and reassuring. I'm so glad to have her support as well as all of yours. She also said that Thomas must have felt really, really awful. What 8 year old wouldn't want to dive into a pizza...

  24. Thanks Shannon. It's just all such a mystery as you know. Too bad it couldn't all be black and white. Haley's home sick w/ the stomach flu today. Calgon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AND my poor cake, or crumbs, I should say. I must make lemonade out of lemons. I will not fail!!!!! I'm going to find a delicious chocolate trifle and layer away!!!!!!!!! Kandi
  25. Thanks. It's so easy to get down. Strawberries could definitely be a possibility. I just bought them this past week and now a new canker. Hot dogs may also be the culprit. Thanks for the replies. I just tried baking a gluten free chocolate cake for Thanksgiving and it totally flopped. Half of it was stuck in the pan when I tried to flip it. Trifle anyone...
